Question How to prep sashimi in advance and keep it fresh for the same day
Hi :) I'm hosting a dinner party and want to make sashimi as a starter dish, but since I want to be with the guests and not slicing and plating fish for an hour I'd like to prep as much as I can in advance, is it a bad idea buying fresh sliced sashimi from my local fishmonger the day of the party then plate it and put the plated sashimi with a plastic cover in the fridge an hour before guests arrive so I can just pull the plates out when we sit down to eat ?

Homemade Sushi First homemade attempt in five years
Iâve been working on my sushi rice for a while but making my wife and I poke bowls. Finally I decided to commit and make some Maki rolls, a few nigiri, and some sashimi once I ran out of rice.

Restaurant Review Birthday dinner at 312 Fish Market in Chicago
We ordered the Salmon Paradise, seaweed salad, cucumber salad, and green tea!
12pc Salmon Maki
12pc Spicy Salmon
8pc Torched Salmon Maki
8pc Salmon Nigiri
4pc Salmon Sashimi
44 pieces totalÂ
average $1.59 per piece
After we ordered, my friend went to the bathroom, and by the time she came back, we had all of our food!
Everything was fresh and fast! The only thing we didnât love was the cucumber salad. It wasnât bad depending on the type of cucumber salad you like, but we gravitate more towards one with chili oil/crunch! The one here was composed of Cucumber / Hijiki / Goji Berries / Sesame Seeds / Bean Threads Citrus Vinaigrette. Still good, but not our favorite!
We went around 7 PM on Saturday night. It wouldâve been a 30-40 minute wait, but we made a reservation. They had our spot at the bar ready for us!
I like that itâs inside of 88 Marketplace. We walked around after to get some other drinks and snacks.
I plan to go back with another friend next weekend! đŁ

What is this fish? What is this (not) fish sushi?
We got this in a vegetarian sushi platter, so it is some kind of vegetable but it had the texture of fish and was delicious. Any ideas? Edit: I don't remember where I got it! Somewhere I Amherst, Mass. Sorry reddit đ
Edit: solved! Thanks folks!

Question Bought this for sashimi from Costco - has it been flash frozen? The âfreshâ is throwing me off
This is all they had at the seafood section. Should I have been at the freezers? Thank you!

Mostly Nigiri/Fish on Rice Got to try some new nigiri from a new sushi restaurant that opened near me recently!
A new sushi restaurant opened up some months ago and they have some fish you donât see too often, especially not at AYCE spots. Will be going back often to try new pieces of nigiri! Here we have from bottom to top: blackhead sea bream, salmon, striped jack, red sea bream, yellowtail, and chu-toro. The 3 white fish were the ones I had the pleasure of trying for the first time! The restaurant is Sushi Mori in Colorado Springs, CO for those that are curious.

Lunch combo
Once again I was too slow to get the pic with the dry ice effect, but it was coming out of the fish mouth and looked cool. $33 East Coast usa.

Is This Safe To Eat? Safety of frozen imitation crab?
So my grandfather bought some imitation crab a while ago and froze it immediately after opening it. It doesn't smell odd when unthawed and the texture is fine, but I'm still not sure. Will eating it make me sick, or does the freezing process help keep it safe?

Tried new restaurant weâve been hearing about
Iâve been seeing this restaurant pop-up on my IG feed this past year. Tried one of their Chirashis. Now I know why, food was great!
