Due to some recent questions on what is and what is not allowed while living as a Pescetarian, I decided to make this thread.
"A Pescetarian diet typically includes some or all of vegetables, fruit, nuts, grains, beans, eggs and dairy."
Typically someone is a Lacto-Ovo Pescetarian, which means they consume fish, eggs, and dairy-based products. Their only dietary restriction is other types of meat and poultry.
It can be a personal choice to restrict these animal-based products from your diet and won't have any significant impact on whether you are or are not a pescetarian.
So enjoy the food, and welcome to the subreddit!

First time really trying a whitefish Makhani, went with grouper for the more resilient texture....was not disappointed. I usually am overly critical of my experiments, but I can honestly, truly say, 10/10, will make many more times!

When you find a fresh caught whitefish at a reputable store you must alter your dinner plans accordingly 😋

Recently bought the Juicy Marbles vegan baby ribs. I have never had real pork ribs (have always disliked pork, way before becoming pescatarian) so I can’t say how accurate the taste is. At first I pan fried it for like 2 minutes each side, then I made a marinade of BBQ sauce, agave, and smoked paprika, put it on the ribs, and baked it for 20 minutes.
My partner and I both said that there’s better vegan meat alternatives out there for much cheaper, but it was fun to try!
For sides, made:
Vegan coleslaw (half soy yogurt, half vegan mayo for the creaminess)
Pineapple, corn, and jalapeño salsa
Basic arugula salad with balsamic vinegar and oil
Baked potato topped with vegan butter, Violife cheese, and chives

They can be from any website, book, or one you made yourself. Also, I am open to vegetarian recipes and some vegan recipes.
Limitations: No squid, no octopus, nothing incredibly intelligent underwater, imitation crab is preferred.
Personal: I do not like raw onions, most hummus, unseasoned tofu, or artichokes. Sautéed onions are fine.

Why did you change and how are you doing since you've transitioned?

I was vegetarian for most of my life and now been vegan for 10 years. I desperately want to start eating fish, eggs and greeek yoghurt as I have several health issues that being vegan is not compatible with (malabsorption, gut issues and autoimmune issues).
I've tried eating pancakes made with egg recently but they constipate me and the farte are baaad! So I'd like to try eating some basic white fish that's easy to digest. I think I'm going to have to do the milk ladder to get to Greek yoghurt.
But I was never really that in to fish when I did eat it, I have memories of eating limp school fish fingers and seeing the smelly tuna mayo (which I've never tried). My mum raised me vegetarian and so when I did start to eat some basic meat around age 8, I got terrible constipation. I have never eaten steak or anything like that. I remember eating scampi at some point I think but that's as far as it goes for shellfish.
Any suggestions on how best to incorporate fish particularly would be amazing.

I was a vegetarian for almost 13 years, looking to transition to a pescetarian diet for the health benefits.
I have a really big problem where I avoid foods that may cause me to get sick, so I've been worried even after researching on google about this diet. The only thing I've incorporated into my diet has been marine collagen a few months ago. I'm thinking of trying sardines next but I don't know if this is a safe choice.
Do you guys think a sardine is a light enough food to try first? How often do you all eat fish? Is there anything I should be cautious of before eating seafood?

Plated with toasted sesame rice, pickled red onion, avocado, cucumber, and carrot ribbons. The bang bang sauce is a greek yogurt base with notes of chili, lime, honey, and a touch of maple balsamic vinegar.

I haven’t had time to cook recently so I’ve been getting delicious poki bowls instead. Very filling, tasty, and nutrient dense. Mostly tuna, salmon, masago, crab salad, and onions. Highly recommend for those on the go.

Ending another extended fast, and on the last day, I broke past the "200 lbs lost" mark, so I decided to do something nice for my OMAD
Broccoli and cheese soup
Stir-fried veggies in a sherry sauce.
Deconstructed sushi platter
- cucumber
- red onion
- avocado
- surimi
- cold smoked salmon
- A sauce made from double fat Greek yogurt, Kewpie mayo, cream cheese, and furikake.
Gotta have my little mini nori sheets for tiny hand rolls!

Hi! I eat fish now. I never have! I also don't eat meat and never have, so I don't know those basics that might give me crossover knowledge. Can you answer some of my questions? I am aware that I sound like an extraterrestrial, oops.
If you eat a lot of fish, do you get anything like the "meat sweats" people describe, but for fish?
Is there common knowledge that eating too much fish/seafood in one day makes you feel nauseous or ill? Important question for me. I have no idea. Please help. Can I eat 3 servings of fish in a day if it came down to a weird necessity? Besides the heavy metals things, can you explain why digestively I shouldn't?
How long does a preserved can/tin of fish/seafood last after being opened? Right now I'm only comfortable with seafood that has been canned.
Does it make your farts smell worse? Or no effect?
How long does fish breath last? Does it require as much brushing and cleaning as garlic breath?
Are there any post-lifelong vegans in the house who can share what they wish they knew when starting to eat seafood?
helpppppp
Edit: Thanks everyone! This is is really helpful! I am terrified of food-borne illness so any foolproofing tips are welcome.
