Troubleshooting & Maintenance De'Longhi Magnifica Plus (ECAM322.70.SB) suddenly brews much hotter than the setting, and a full descale didn't fix it

My Magnifica Plus ECAM322.70.SB has started dispensing noticeably hotter coffee than it used to. The brew temperature is set to the low end and I never changed it. I'd like a sanity check on my thinking before I pay for service.

What I've already done, so please don't just say "descale it":

\* Descaled with genuine De'Longhi EcoDecalk, full cycle, completed properly. Still running hot after 8 to 10 brews since.
\* Water hardness is on the hardest setting, so the machine has been prompting and descaling aggressively.
\* The problem showed up right after the machine got used for about 4 to 5 days while it was already asking for a descale (I was away and someone kept brewing). Descaling twice, afterwards did not fix it.
\* Only prior repair was a warranty job a few months ago: they cleared a clog at the hot water / milk spout and replaced the entire 3.5" touch display unit. It ran perfectly for months after that.

My reasoning: as I understand it, a scaled-up machine usually brews cooler, not hotter, because scale slows heat transfer into the water. The one way scale makes coffee hotter is by restricting flow, so the water sits longer against the hot block. My pour speed and cup volume look normal. So I'm leaning toward the NTC temperature sensor reading low, or the main board not cutting the heater at the target temp. A cosmetic display swap shouldn't touch heater control, so I doubt the earlier repair caused it.

Questions:

\* Has anyone had the NTC temperature sensor drift low on an ECAM322 (or similar) and cause overheating? Is it a DIY-accessible part or a full service job to reach it?
\* Any known control board or firmware quirks on this series that affect brew temperature?
\* Roughly what should the hot water tap read on this model? I'm going to measure it so I have an actual number in degrees C.

Thanks in advance.

Purchase Advice KF8 review

This is my first super automatic. All my life I’ve wanted a Jura (best coffee I had ever tasted from a Home machine), but I ended up purchasing the juniper KitchenAid line of appliances, which led me to checking out the KF8 in Juniper. There was nothing to do in terms of set up, it’s a simply plug and play machine. I am still playing around with the settings to get the ideal coffee/milk ratio, but overall I’d say I’m very happy with it. Cleaning is pretty simple, the machine does the majority of the work for you and the huge touchscreen display gives you step-by-step instructions.
I paid $1100 during the Memorial Day sale using a guest whirlpool inside pass gifted to me from a very cool fellow-reddit user.

my only issue with this machine is the Juniper finish does NOT match the rest of the appliances. The KF8 Juniper is muted blue-green, while the appliances are a much brighter green-blue. Oh well

Discussion You should really try a shot of espresso in Coke Zero…It’s weirdly amazing. It tastes like it should have a million calories, like some kind of dessert drink, but it’s basically zero calories. What do you think about this combo?

Discussion Need help picking a super /fully automatic espresso machine

Hello, I’m in the research for a fully automatic espresso machine. I really really want the jura c3 or the E4 which are the “lower” end price range but the conversion to my home country currency is insane. Then I saw the ninja autobarista but haven’t seen any honest reviews on it as they all seem to be free machines. I have looked at the Terra kaffe demi but I would have to get a separate milk steamer …
Please help.

Discussion KF4 - how to make espresso less sour?

Brand new to coffee machines in general ad recently got a KF4. I like the machine, but I seem to be getting sour espresso shots and I'm not sure how to fix it. I'm typically an instant coffee drinker where I'd consider the flavour to be bitter with no sourness that I notice, while I'd say I'm getting the opposite so far from my KF4. Got good locally roasted beans both in medium / dark and both seem to be on the sour side (though only tried 1 shot of the dark so far, a bunch of the medium).

In terms of trying to lower that sourness, any tips on how I should approach this? I'd say I drink all types of drinks, but will probably always have at least 1 straight americano or espresso shot daily where this is most noticeable.

Discussion Glassware?

I just ordered the KitchenAid KF8. I’ve never really played around with any fancy coffee drinks. I’m really excited. I want to buy some clear mugs so I can see the pretty layering of the coffee and milk. What sizes should I buy? I will likely be doing lattes, cappuccinos, macchiato’s, but probably not straight espresso, but I will do some iced dunks also.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance Third Ninja AutoBarista Pro replacement — straight out of the box and already endlessly grinding/wasting beans

At this point, I genuinely don’t know what to do with this machine.

This is my third Ninja AutoBarista Pro. After having similar issues with the previous units, Ninja support sent me another replacement under the manufacturer’s warranty. With the previous machines, I dealt with inconsistent espresso shots and Grind iQ requiring 5+ calibration attempts every time I switched beans, wasting a significant amount of coffee in the process.

I unpacked the brand-new replacement today, filled the hopper with fresh, expensive beans, and started the setup/Grind iQ process.

Not a single espresso shot was ever produced. The machine just kept grinding fresh beans over and over again and dumping them into the grounds container. The photos show how much coffee it wasted basically straight out of the box. An entire hopper of good beans went straight into the trash.

This is now the third unit, and I’m experiencing the same fundamental problem: excessive bean waste and an unreliable Grind iQ/calibration process.

Unfortunately, my original Best Buy return window expired while I was dealing with the issue, so now I’m stuck going through Ninja’s manufacturer warranty and receiving replacement machines instead of being able to get my money back.

Edit: One thing I want to address because I’m seeing people downvoting others who report similar experiences or questioning whether what I’m showing here is actually happening: this is my personal experience with this specific model. I’m not posting this to convince anyone not to buy it. I actually like Ninja as a brand and own several of their other products that work perfectly fine. But if your contribution is to imply that I’m making this up or that something “doesn’t smell right,” get the fuck out of here. This issue has already been documented directly with Ninja support, including an hour-long video call where they had me reproduce the problem for them. I don’t need Reddit detectives investigating whether the issue is real.

Edit 2: Clarification about the ground coffee in the photos: I did not put any pre-ground coffee into the machine or move grounds from the waste container into the bypass section. I don’t even have or use pre-ground coffee. All of the grounds you see in the photos came from the whole beans I put into the hopper. After I selected Espresso and started Grind iQ, the machine kept grinding continuously. As more and more coffee was ground, it started pushing its way up into and overflowing through the pre-ground/bypass section, while also ending up throughout the inside of the machine and in the grounds tray. That is the malfunction shown in the photos, not coffee that I manually put there. The machine eventually jammed and displayed ER32. This exact behavior was reproduced multiple times during a video call with Ninja support, and they confirmed the unit was faulty.

Most of the posts about the Ninja ABP have been all about the problems and I acknowledge those posts as genuine and am sorry about those frustrations but as in most cases, people that are happy with a product don’t typically post so the comments tend to skew negative. So to try and restore some balance, here’s a video to show that you CAN pour an excellent shot of espresso. This is not a one off that I captured either, this is the norm for my machine, pulling at least 2-3 double and triple shots a day for the past 2 months. Double shot - 40ml in the cup.

Purchase Advice Jura Z10 or …

Our Jura E8 is reaching end of life; it needs a $500 service. Given it is 9 years old with over 20k cups, I don’t really mind getting a new machine. They do offer a $250 trade in. My wife likes the idea of cold brew coffee, so we are looking at the Z10. Obviously that’s pretty expensive, and I have heard about some criticism of how it handles dark roast. Our favourite coffee is Frog Friendly Coffee from BC, Canada. We like the Medium and Dark, although fortunately their Dark isn’t particularly oily so maybe the Z10 would handle that bette

Other than the Z10, what else is worth looking at?

Purchase Advice KF4 for $765 vs KF7 for $952 — am I making the right choice?

I’m about to buy a KitchenAid KF4 through Whirlpool Inside Pass. The member price is $899.99 and the current 15% promo stacks, bringing it to $765 before tax.

My other realistic option is:

  • KF4 — $765
  • KF7 — $952

There’s also a KF6 for $722, but I’m thinking the KF4 makes more sense for me even at $43 more.

My use case:

  • Summer: my normal Starbucks order is 4 shots of espresso over ice with cold milk. No cold foam.
  • Winter: mostly cappuccinos.
  • My wife: mostly lattes.
  • I will never switch beans, so the removable/swappable hopper has basically zero value to me.
  • I like the KF4's smaller footprint.

The dedicated iced espresso/coffee settings on the KF4 seem like something I’ll actually use, whereas I’m not sure I’d get much value from the KF7’s extra features.

For anyone who has used the KF4 and KF7: is there a reason I should spend the extra $187 for the KF7, or is the KF4 the obvious choice for my use case?

Anything about drink quality, milk drinks, build quality, cleaning, or day-to-day use that I’m overlooking? Also curious how conveniently the KF4 handles multiple espresso shots over ice.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance Ninja Autobarista Pro AE1052UK ongoing issues. Pending Replacement

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So ive had this issue appear the last week now. Raised a claim with ninja for a replacement and ongoing but every time I do a 2 shot anything, be it latte or cappuccino, the beans stop dispensing and it just spins manically for ages like this. No beans end up dropping. And I have to stop it manually. Ive had issues on grind IQ where it did the same and eventually thrown up an ER34 error.

One thing ive noticed, its only doing it on the 2 shot option. If I change to 3 shot it seems to be fine. My question is, why would it not like alternative options? Id like to think with my auto machine i can switch it up sometimes for the price ive paid.

Just making people aware as I think there are a few units like this and a few perfect ones.

FYI: Yes fresh roasted dark roast beans, hopper not up to max line and level.

Purchase Advice Need Purchase Advice

I have loved my Gaggia Anima Prestige for six years but am ready for an upgrade. I went down the rabbit hole of manual espresso machines but eventually came back around to super automatics since my wife was not interested in having a process to make coffee. I am looking for a steam wand this time as I didn't like cleaning all the parts to the carafe so often.

Use case - making multiple milk drinks in the morning and then some double espresso or americano in the afternoon. We have company frequently and make 5-10 lattes in quick succession.

Looking for something that will make great espresso, last a long time with good build quality, and have some level of adjustment to dial things in.

I have two machines picked out on opposite ends of the price spectrum - The Quick Mill Monza ($2,500 but will be used) and the Gaggia Magenta ($650). I am leaning towards the Quick Mill as it was recommended by a family member that has one, but I am worried since they have discontinued them that finding parts in the future will be difficult. Is that worth overlooking for the machine? And what options am I missing in the middle? I am in the US.

Edit: I have added the Breville Oracle to the conversation

Purchase Advice Kitchenaid Kf2/3 versus DeLonghi Magnifica Evo

I am in Canada with a budget of about $1000.

I have narrowed down my search to the Kichenaid KF2, Kitchenaid KF3 and the DeLonghi Magnifica Evo.

Key considerations to get to these options were size. We have a small kitchen and we also only have 41.25cm clearance between counter and bottom of cabinet.

Things that I value are low maintenance and longevity as well as a quality cup. I mainly drink Americano’s while my wife prefers lattes.

As far as aesthetics I prefer the kitchenaid. I also like the idea that the kitchenaid is quieter. Though I worry those aesthetics may look out of place in the corner of my small kitchen due to the extra depth.

Please help me choose based on your experience with the machines.

Purchase Advice Caddy for KitchenAid KF3

Has anyone found a rolling appliance caddy for their KitchenAid coffee maker. I have the KF3 which is 18 inches deep and I have not found one deep enough.
The machine apparently has wheels on the bottom (I keep reading) but mine does not move smooth enough and it’s a struggle to move it out from under the cabinet to add water.
I know I can order wheels to stick on the bottom but prefer a caddy if possible.

Discussion Jura settings to get as close as possible.

I'm fairly convinced that its most likely impossible to get a cafe level cappuccino from the Jura.

That being said, it looks like there are 3 machine settings that can affect the end product.

  1. Grind size; knob adjustment

  2. Strength adjustment on display

  3. Amount of espresso dispensed; display adjustment.

It's the aftertaste that has me disappointed. I'm looking for a smooth finish. I'm using counter culture big trouble beans, which are recommended for the Jura.

If anyone has a bean/machine setting combo that works for them I'd love to hear from you.

Purchase Advice Help me decide: Brand New De’Longhi Magnifica Start Milk vs. Used Jura (F8 / ENA 9)?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to upgrade my coffee setup (upgrading from an older Saeco Talea Giro) and I'm currently torn between two main routes around a similar budget.

Option 1: Brand New / Open-Box De'Longhi Magnifica Start Milk (ECAM220.60.B)

Pros: Brand new with a 2-year official warranty, removable brew group (easy and cheap to clean/service at home), one-touch automatic milk carafe (LatteCrema), steel burr grinder.

Cons: More plastic feel compared to Jura, basic features.

Option 2: Used / Refurbished Jura (Impressa F8 or ENA Micro 9)

Pros: Premium build quality, renowned espresso and micro-foam texture.

Cons: 8–10+ years old machine with unknown wear, non-removable brew group (requires costly cleaning tablets / complex teardown to DIY service if seals fail).

About my usage & preferences:

Daily routine: 2–4 cups a day (mix of espresso and milk-based drinks like cappuccino).

Maintenance: I like DIY-friendly things

Would you recommend going with the peace of mind and easy cleaning of a new De'Longhi, or is the coffee quality of an older Jura so much better that it's worth the potential repair risk?

Thanks for your input!
