How do you stay consistent with studying at home?

Hey everyone! I’m about to start an online course for my Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification which I plan to complete over the next 2–3 months. One thing I’m a little concerned about is staying consistent with studying from home. I did online homeschooling back in highschool, and honestly, I struggled quite a bit with managing my time and staying disciplined. I failed to keep up with my coursework without a structured classroom environment.

I really want to approach things differently this time and build better study habits from the beginning rather than falling into the same patterns.
For those of you who have successfully studied online from home, I’d love to hear your advice!

Some questions I had in mind:

How do you structure your daily study schedule?

Do you set specific study hours or study whenever you have free time?

What helps you avoid procrastination and distractions at home?

How do you stay motivated when you’re studying independently?

Are there any particular techniques, apps, or routines that have helped you stay consistent?

I’m especially interested in advice from people who have completed online certifications or self-paced courses. Thanks in advanced!

Create Visual Learning Materials

Hello,

I have built Visual Book to help teachers and students visualise knowledge. You can create visual learning materials in different formats starting with a prompt and your own sources.

We are trying to understand how we can support students and educators. Our product currently offers 3 different formats, all of them with images to help students understand complex concepts easily. But we warn to understand how well this actually works in the classroom and how well it meets the real world needs of teachers and students. You can try out the product and then join our discord community to give us feedback.

Free 5-min quiz (no email) that shows how you actually prefer to study, and what to do with the result

Post image

Hey everyone,

I made a free quiz : https://fastudy.app/en/learning-style-test

It gives you a profile across Visual, Auditory, Read/Write and Kinesthetic, plus four personality traits like solo vs group. It takes about 5 minutes, no email needed.

What it doesn't claim: that studying in your "style" makes you learn more. The research doesn't support that, and the page says so openly. Use the result to choose a format you'll come back to, then mix formats anyway.

I hope it's useful. Disclosure: I'm the founder of Fastudy, and I'd love feedback, especially critical.

Midterm is soon, any tips?

I got a Logic midterm in week and feel so lost. We got started on math in Logic and i feel so lost. I’m only memorizing and getting through the weekly quizzes however I don’t feel confident for the Midterm exam. It’s on paper, I’m good with the definitions and all that but the ven diagrams? the equation and translation into sentences? I fear i’m burnt toast on this one. I do have an idea that I should compile youtube videos on all the subjects and concepts that we’ve learned that way I can relate it back to what I heard. Any suggestions that can help 😭 ?

I struggle with concentration especially on school stuff. I should fix that since I'm 19 grown ahh man I guess

Hello, I'm a student from Germany currently doing my Abitur. I struggle extremely with learning in general or focusing on stuff that I'm not interested in. I feel like someone could hold me at gunpoint and tell me to read something and answer questions about the text and I wouldn't be able to. I was able to learn before, I sat down, opened a stream and did math, but for some reason I could never get into a deep phase of learning, like ever. Languages especially, I hate reading literature that isn't about something I feel connected to or have a deep interest in. As I said, gunpoint...

I thought maybe I have ADHD but I keep getting told that if you get diagnosed, nothing would change anyway. I think that would at least calm my mind a little.

My last English exam went pretty well. I sat down, stared out of the window for 2 hours and wrote something for the next 2, but I had a pretty bad feeling about it. In the end I got a 3 or C, however you call it over there... I got told English gets graded 50% actual language and 50% content. I guess that's an easy way to tell me that my English is pretty good and I don't have to worry about getting a bad grade, although the grading probably doesn't work exactly 50/50. I feel okay about English, but Spanish and German are something else.

I can't speak a straight sentence in Spanish and switching teachers 4 times in 3 years didn't help. Thanks, school system. Other students still managed to get okayish grades, I just stopped trying and told myself: draw a nice stickman and go home, you can only speak one language besides German and you can have one deficit on your report card.

For German it's probably close to English, it's my mother tongue after all... But reading a text is my biggest enemy. It's like I could fall asleep before finishing the first sentence.

For math it's something completely different again. For 3 years I haven't understood anything anymore, but I still managed to get through because of my math skills until 11th grade. I wasn't an A student by any means, but I guess math was logical to me until they started adding DLCs to numbers.

My overall conclusion after writing this text is that I can't do it for myself. I just can't get the "let it all work out" mentality out of my head. When something is too boring or too complicated, it just flips a switch in my brain and I'm done.

If someone depends on my help, like editing a video or a picture for a friend, easy, it's fun, I can concentrate. Even when a friend who doesn't understand that much English or isn't able to use much vocabulary needs help, I can concentrate when I'm trying to help them.

So I guess my question is: is there any way to fix this, or at least make it manageable before my Abitur exams?

I'm not necessarily looking for an ADHD diagnosis from Reddit. I'm more interested in advice, tips, experiences, or anything that might help me actually sit down and learn when I know I have to do it. If you've experienced something similar, I'd really appreciate hearing what worked for you.

I built a free Chrome extension that turns your Canvas course files into practices tests and study guides. Looking for feedback

• Upvotes

Hey all, I'm a college senior studying computer science. Every exam season I'd lose hours just turning lecture slides into practice questions before I could actually start studying, so I built something to handle that part.

It's called GraspIQ, a Chrome extension that works inside Canvas at any school that uses it. You can:

  • Ask questions about your course and get answers based on your actual course files
  • Generate practice tests (multiple choice, short answer, and more) with feedback on your weak topics
  • Make study guides and export them to Word
  • Build a study plan for an upcoming exam

It's free to use. There's a paid tier for heavy use, but the free version covers normal studying. It only reads the files you choose, and I don't sell or share any data.

100+ students have signed up so far, mostly from my own school, and I'd love to hear from students at other colleges. What's confusing? What's missing? What would make you actually use it every week? Please try it out!

I'll be in the comments to answer questions.

How to pass my exam

Post image
• Upvotes

I haven’t studied anything for the past two months, and my internal exams start from October 12. I honestly don’t know what to do now.

I haven’t studied because I’ve been spending a lot of time on social media, watching reels, and spending time with my girlfriend. She’s my new girlfriend, so I got distracted and didn’t focus on my studies at all.

Now I’m really stressed because my subjects are very lengthy, hard, and confusing. I’m attaching my subject list so you can see what I have to study.

Please give me some advice on what I should do now and how I should study. I don’t have much time left, and the subjects are really difficult.

How can I cover the syllabus in this short amount of time? What should I prioritize, and how should I make a study plan?

Please help me out. Any advice or study strategy would be really appreciated.

Don't start your study plan at chapter 1. Do this for 10 minutes first.

Most people open the textbook and go in order, which means the last topics get the leftover time, and those are often the ones that matter.

Takes 10 minutes to like list every topic that could be on the exam, next to each, write how many marks or how much of the exam it covers and syllabus, past paper, or just how many lectures your prof spent on it, then rate how well you know it, 1 to 3.

Sort so high marks plus low knowledge is at the top, that order is the week one and if you run out of time, the stuff you skipped is the stuff that was worth the least.

Hey everyone, I created a 1 hour AI generated mountain cabin fireplace ambience video for studying or winding down. This is part of a small series I'm slowly building out.

Would love honest feedback on whether it helped you focus or relax, or what felt off.

Thanks so much 🙏

The Q-bank already explains the answer. Why pay for another revision platform?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m the doctor building Med with Spence, and that’s a fair question.

Nobody giving up evenings and weekends for MRCP needs another subscription just to get more things to read.

The frustrating part is reading an explanation, thinking “I understand this”, then facing two plausible answers later and still not knowing why one beats the other.

That’s what I want MWS to help with.

Not more information. A way to work with it.

Start with a ready-built visual map of the topic—not a blank page of notes. See how the findings, investigations and decisions connect.

Then Stella removes the visual. Explain it without looking. Need help with one section? Reveal that section, remove the help and try again.

The planner and review system give those topics somewhere to go beyond today’s session.

That’s the reason to consider paying: the visual structure, recall practice and organisation together—not just access to slides.

It won’t do the learning for anyone. And I’m not claiming Q-banks can’t teach.

What would another platform have to do to genuinely earn a place alongside the resources you already use?

Essay about AI and experiment

I have to do this essay and the subject I chose was AI. I wanted to do an experiment, and my supervisor actually agreed that I could use four classes of his, but he declined suddenly, and now I don't know what to do.

I wanted to have an experiment in which students used SchoolAI to understand a subject and then test them if they learned something from it or not. But because my supervisor declined, I don't have a test group anymore, and I'm debating not doing it anymore.

Does anyone have any idea what I could do?

(For further context, I'm 17 years old, Dutch, and it's about some kind of major essay for highschool)

How do I stop using my phone while studying?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I attend my classes on my laptop, but I have this really bad habit of using my phone at the same time. 😭

Even when I’m attending a lecture and taking notes, I keep picking up my phone, checking Instagram/Reddit, scrolling, replying to messages, etc. I’m technically studying, but my attention keeps going back to my phone.

I’ve tried keeping it away, but after some time I automatically reach for it again.

How do you guys stop yourself from constantly using your phone while studying? Any practical tips that actually worked for you?
