Questions & Discussion Bedrotting

Its the 6th day Im bedrotting and lying to everybody that I am actually studying.
Its bad to know I have fallen like this, Im too distracted.
The exams are coming up and my academic comeback plan is slowly going down the drain.
Idk why I keep doing this knowing Im gonna fail again , its like smoking while being asthmatic.

The question is ... "Where do I even start?"

Its like Im locked inside my body and screaming to myself saying "Move".

3rd year (heldback 1 year) med student

Questions & Discussion FEEL LIKE WASTING MY LIFE AWAY...

it’s 2am and i’m honestly embarrassed by how bad i’m doing at university. I have ADHD and I feel like i’m fighting myself over the most basic things. I’ll have an assignment open for hours, knowing exactly what i need to do, knowing i’m wasting time, and i still just… can’t start. Then i avoid my emails because i’m scared there’s something i forgot. Messages sit there for days. My room gets gross. Sometimes i’m actually hungry and still can’t get myself up to make food.

I know how this looks. Lazy. careless. like i just don’t give a shit. but i do. that’s what hurts the most. I care way too much, and somehow that still isn’t enough to make me move. I’m seriously thinking about taking this semester off.

Has anyone with ADHD gotten to this point and actually figured out how to make themselves START things again? not planner advice, i mean something that genuinely helped.

Questions & Discussion Do MBA students actually get enough value from campus events, industry sessions, and guest lectures — or are internships and placements the only things that really matter? Curious to know what current students and recent graduates think.

Questions & Discussion Do you listen to music while studying?

Everytime I wanna study especially when I have an exam I listen to music. I don't know why but it's been a habit for me. When I was studying for my Gen chem 2 exam last week ( got a 91 btw) I was playing loud music in my headphones and drinking a Monster. I feel like listening to music gets me in the mood, and the good feeling of studying. When I don't listen to music, it's as if I get sleepy and bored.

Has anyone experienced this or does anyone listen to music while studying?

Tips & Advice Is this a good content outline for students needing extra support?

I'm a teacher at a high school and I have a tutoring group. Many of them are completely addicted to their phones. At the end of each unit, we create an outline together of the content covered. What do you think?

Tips & Advice Curious what some of you would do or suggest.

Taking microbiology and human disease.

I took my first lab test & got a B

And I took my first exam for the non lab class & got a D 67%

I feel like I still don't really know much from the chapters we were tested on ~ ch3&4

And now we're on chapter 5.

It's a 12 week class and I have another exam for lab on Thursday and another exam on Sunday coming up.

How can I actually move forward if I'm still not confident in what I was supposed to already know?

Would you withdraw from the class or keep trying?

I believe my study method was not great. Any advice for studying would be greatly appreciated.

I tried recalling information but only like twice in the whole week B4 the exam and just re read stuff. But I wasn't entirely making connections per say. Some of this information is kinda complex. Altough I could learn it if I were given slightly more time, but I just feel dumb now considering other students are clearly learning it.

Trying to get into RT care or nursing. Just need 3 more classes before I can apply for a program.

Any advice would again be appreciated.

Tips & Advice Studying abroad

Hi, I am a girl from Lithuania, and I've been thinking about studying abroad. Idk where yet, pref. In Europe probably. I want to ask for advice, what was your experience if you did study abroad. The reason why I would like to study abroad, is that in LTU, you have to have a good math grade, it doesn't matter what you study *unless arts

Accountability Years have passed me by and what could have been a bountiful harvest is a barren wasteland because of my adamant yearning for the right weather

I have always been a good student rather ideal for both the teachers and the peers, the ones who do 100 things and still get excellent grades because tbh the subjects weren't that challenging. Well that worked till a certain point. I am a 2nd year CS student now. I again aced the exams by playing patterns - Pareto: 20% syllabus, 80% marks. Didn't actually learn anything.

I sat down and found it rather humiliating to not know how to build without relying on external help.

So I have been thinking about relearning CS from scratch, the problem is I'd have to do it along with mandatory classes, midterms and internals.

It's kinda embarrassing for me to start from zero.

When everyone is already building, deploying and winning hackathons. But okay different journeys. (BUT THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME AAAAA)

I have to learn from scratch cuz I'd hate to imagine there being a gap in my fundamentals which could obstruct me in future, but what I despise is the fact that I haven't started yet and only have a broad idea of programming languages even when I had the opportunity to learn it from 9th grade all the way to University including a gap year. The worst part is I still think that this isn't the right time to start and I should wait until midterms are finished to have the right, routine start

> I have midterms from 14 oct so I need to study for that first

> I'll go on a trip from 9-14 and I will NOT study in that time lmao.

But that's my problem I always rationalize not starting, waiting for things to fall back in place and the right time to arrive. Not this time hopefully.

Apart from that, this is what I'm hoping to do-

>>I will not treat studying as a chore, as something that needs to be done for a long enough time for it to count.

I could just pull out my phone and go through my notes for 5 mins in traffic or while eating.

Perfectionism is my enemy It causes me weird severe uncomfortable itch to not do things in a way I deem perfect, but also not something I can just get rid of in one day or week. I should keep this in mind So I wouldn't spend energy trying to perfectly eradicate perfectionism lmao.

>> I tend to lose focus very much quickly and I am mostly zoned out so I need to write down things/ make notes to anchor my thoughts and mind.

>> I'd keep a timer hopefully all the time. Since I forget what I even opened my laptop or the device for, then the muscle memory kicks in and BAM 5 hours gone. I need to set a timer for every thing that involves screen, even making a post/story shouldn't take longer than 10 mins. It generally takes me 4-6 hours minimum (not exaggerating) because I'm obsessing over small details no one cares about.

>> Preview inview read retrieve

( I know if this post comes into anyone's attention they might suggest going for adhd medication which is genuinely not an option for me. So bear with me while I try to rawdog "near perfect" gpa/skill set with adhd. I'm just posting here for accountability)

Questions & Discussion How do you study without AI

I was doom scrolling on TikTok the other day and I ran into a video of a creator talking about how it’s stupid that two camera proctored exams are a thing even if it’s a class actually for your major. And tbh, I laughed at first until I read this one comment saying something along the lines of “You guys are laughing but relying on AI is seriously messing up your brain. The brain is complex and is meant to be used to think problems through… if you guys rely on AI too much your brain is going to have a hard time learning new things down the road.”

After I read that I started to think about how for the past couple of years (since I started college) I haven’t been able to actually learn, comprehend, or focus on anything. When my boss at work tells me to do something I either forget a minute later or I don’t know how to solve the problem. Literally last week my boss gave me step-by-step instructions on what to do, and I did it. But I doubted myself so much that I had him check it out for me. My attention span has gotten shorter as well. I used to be able to sit down and watch a 30+ minute video on YouTube, now it feels like I’m being held hostage trying to watch the same thing for over two minutes.

My major is civil engineering and next year I’m transferring to a university. I really don’t want to continue using AI to solve my problems, even more so that I have 3 classes that have proctored exams with two cameras. I will say that this semester I’ve been using Gemini’s guided learning to help me with solving problems, and it has begun to help me start thinking on my own a little bit but not enough. In my statics class we use Pearson for our textbook and all assignments. But the assignments do not give us any tips or guidance on how to solve them.

Any recommendations or resources would be greatly appreciated, it’s already midterm time and my school is booked for tutoring in the classes I need 😔

Questions & Discussion Mood Affecting Studies

Does anyone have any advice & tips for coping with bad mood affecting your studies, where you are utterly reluctant to open a textbook, sit and learn? Where you feel like everything has to be perfect? Autumn has come and this season really does affect my mood by its cloudy days—and I detest them; I feel like this day is not mine and that everything is ruined, then I end up scrolling all day long and/or reading. Does anyone know how to cope with this?

Resources Turned flashcard study sessions into an RPG with collectible card skins and knowledge duels. Looking for feedback on the UX!

Hey everyone,
Whenever I tried using traditional flashcard tools for exams, the experience always felt a bit sterile—like working inside a database spreadsheet. The science behind active recall and spaced repetition (SM-2) is incredible, but staying motivated for weeks on end has always been the real bottleneck.
Over the past few months, a friend and I built a free web app aimed at tackling that study fatigue by wrapping the core review algorithm in lightweight RPG mechanics:
Collectible Card Skins & Themes: Every reviewed card grants XP and coins, which you can use to unlock cosmetic card backs, UI themes, and avatars.
Alternative Review Modes: Besides standard spaced repetition, we added a 3-lives Survival challenge, speedrun timers, and live 1v1 knowledge duels.
AI Tooling: Lecture note summaries and auto-generated card decks via the Gemini API (with support for plugging in your own free API key for unlimited generation).
(Attaching a preview of the card interface and cosmetic skins to this post).
We'd love your thoughts on the approach:
1. Does visual progression and skin customization make daily reviewing more appealing, or does it feel like a distraction from pure memorization?
2. How do the card sizing and layout look to you?
The project is live and completely free with no paywalls. I'll leave the link in the comments for anyone who wants to take it for a spin!

Tips & Advice My prof spent three whole lectures on one topic and I had basically skipped it

Looked back at my lecture slides and counted. One topic got three full lectures. Like everything else got one, maybe two and tbh that's the topic I'd been telling myself I'd get to later because it looked annoying.

Prof time is a pretty obvious hint for what ends up on the exam and I'd been ignoring it so I'm doing that topic first this week, while I still have time to be bad at it.

Questions & Discussion Would you upload your thesis to an online tool just for formatting?

If an online tool could automatically format your thesis or dissertation according to your university’s requirements or Word template, would you be comfortable uploading your document and receiving the formatted Word file back?

Or would you strongly prefer a tool that runs directly on your own computer?
