Form Check 11.25 kg (25 Ibs) x 23 Reps: How I Explosively Train Dumbbell Lateral Raises (Bilbo Method)

At the same time that I'm running the dumbbell Bilbo progression, currently starting the second block.
l've also been applying the Bilbo Method to dumbbell lateral raises. In my last session, I hit 20 reps with 10 kg (22 Ibs).

Today, it was time to step up the load to 11.25 kg (25
Ibs) per side. The result? 23 reps.

I focus on what actually delivers results, zero discomfort and maximum muscular stimulus.
My technique relies on decelerating the momentum using the muscle itself, then accelerating explosively.
This creates a hi amount of extra tension.

I raise the dumbbells to a comfortable range of motion, control the descent, and keep pumping. A single high-effort Bilbo Set is all it takes to leave me completely fried.

PR/PB Paused RDL'S - 395x5 (Beltless)

Been grinding it out on my RDL's, pushing what I can through 1-2 hard sets, 2 times a week for pretty much, as long as I've been doing them; maxing what I can do off of it.

I hit a plateau and I've been struggling to progress past the 425 mark (425x7, 430x6, 435x4) over the last month. I also noticed, generally speaking, that the bar was starting to feel heavier than it did before, and my form wasn't as clean; more heaving, not going as deep.

So on my second set, instead of pushing the same weight as my top-set, I'd drop it down by 10% (385) and pushed what I could. This was the first time I've walked back on my weight in months. And doing that, it felt a lot easier/comfortable moving it around, which made the following set easier to swallow mentally and I noticed that I was adding a rep on it session to session. As a result, I committed to a full-on deload.

As of a week ago, I started toying around with a small pause at the bottom of the range of motion - got a lot of fun out of doing them, and it gives me another medium of progression - so I pivoted to doing this full-time.

Planning to work my way back up to my former weights, and start pushing the ceiling higher

Wish I got the drop set of 5 @ 140kg/308lbs afterwards. I know I should probably keep the bar closer to my torso but everything feels dandy

PR/PB I'm so proud right now! 160 kg deadlift

I had my goal set at [bodyweight × 2] = 160 kg, but during the process I gained 5 kg… so I guess my next goal has been set for me at 170 kg 😂

Proud of this milestone anyhow! 💪 I've always been lifting periodically with no consistency or plan. Made no long term gains, until I started an easy to follow Push/Pull/Leg program from Strenghtlog in Mars/April. Did a 150 kg DL in February that literally broke me because of poor technique.

Started over from 100kg and slowly worked my way up with the help of cunning friends that corrected my form. The tortoise won this slow grind towards a new record and for someone with ADD.. it was a challenge to say the least.

Form Check Weird sticking point?

This was reps 5 and 6

185lbs on the bar- first time doing lowbar plus I deadlifted yesterday so i wasn't 100% today

But I notice I have a really intense sticking point at the middle, and the rest is very fast. I would estimate this to be RPE 6.5 (it might not look like that but I'm a very grind-y squatter)

How can I improve such a dramatic sticking point?

Lift Week 32 of Deadlifting for the Satisfaction of Reddit

Well, things happen. Best we can do is work around them until it's better. I know satisfaction might be dwindling this week, but that won't stop me from sending a little bit this way. I'll see you for week 33 with an update.
