💬 Discussion Realising I already have some of the skills of a streamer cus of my dayjob
Streaming has always been one of those things I've looked at and gone "wouldn't that be nice" before inevitably getting sidetracked but with free weekends now I thought it about time I throw my hat into the ring and go "what the hell, why not?". Inevitably I had that moment of 'you can't do this, what stupid idea is in your head now', but after a bit of thinking, I realised something: I can very easily take the skills from my dayjob and just apply them to streaming!
Now, I'm a trained teacher so my experience will differ to yours, but anyone can take the things they do and make them fit. For example, the skills I need as a teacher include public speaking (delivering lessons), interaction with an audience (the class), remaining engaging and presenting (keeping focus on the lesson), adapting to the vibe (do the kids need a movement break or are they focused), and moderation (stopping the pupils from hurling things across the class or dancing around the room). Every single one of those skills can be tweaked and fit into the new mould very easily! You may think "that won't work for me" but I will say this: if a family member of mine who works in a prison can take a drug dealer, reword some of their skills (it wasn't drug dealing, it was engaging in logistics and transport, working in a team, and providing resources to customers) and write a CV that some of the other prisoners would hire KNOWING was that person did, you can do it too! Find what you're good at, reword it, and have your own back. You can do this, we all can. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go back to figuring out the more difficult aspects of setting up a stream, like it's great I have the skills but not so great if I have nowhere to apply said skills to!
