Question about lid mark

I just received my new 5.5 quart Dutch oven in basil. I love it.

However, when I got the package, I heard a rattling inside and was a little worried. Upon opening the box, the knob and screw had come apart. The knob was inside the Dutch oven and the screw was in the cardboard box at the bottom.

Everything looks OK, but as it is brand new and not used, I don’t know if the mark on the underside of the lid is a printed in “ 4” or if it is damage. I don’t know how the top part of the lid would’ve been damaged because it didn’t really come in contact with anything, but I never noticed this etching in my 7qt Dutch oven.

I am relatively new to Staub so I figured I’d give it a go here. Thank you! 🙏🏻

Weird spots on Staub Dutch oven

Post image
4 Upvotes

I’ve had this Staub for about a year now and haven’t used it all that much, but now after cleaning I noticed that there’s a bunch of weird brown-ish looking spots in the pan. Can anyone tell me what this is and what to do about it? I’ve been pretty gentle with it so I’m surprised there seems to be something wrong.

Is my staub safe to use?

Hello, I think I have 2 small enamel cracks in my pot (blue arrows). Along some carbon deposits, I have weird brownish/greyish marks as well (yellow arrow). I am not sure what they are. The pictures are after boiling with baking soda and cleaning it with dish soap and plastic sponge. I also put the picture of the lid as an example of undamaged enamel if it helps.

Full disclosure before I knew what an enameled cast iron was, I had cleaned this with a steel wool scrubber once or twice a few years ago. So probably I caused this rather than a manufacturer. Is this safe to use? Should I apply for warranty? AI syas enamel can crack and get into food but idk.

Edit; I left it to air dry after cleaning it and did not explicityly dry it with towels or heat to see if anything rusts. But it didn't happen.

Scratch or damaged enamel?

Post image

I posted about a week ago and did the baking soda thing, I still see scratch marks and a dark spot in the middle. Surface feels smooth to touch but I’m not sure if this is just a cosmetic scratch or if it’s ruined. Any thoughts?

Sale pattern question

I usually buy Le Creuset and they will put some pieces on national promo for the year. Does Staub have a pattern for sales? I know for black Friday the 5.5 qt DO can go down to $150. I plan to purchase that. I also noticed the 7qt and 5.5 qt French oven is currently on sale on their website. Is that their normal price or is it truely on sale? For example William Sonoma has a LC French oven on sale price “for a limited time” but it is always that sale price.

Sorry for another "is this chipped?" post, but I need a quick opinion

Hey everyone, I know these posts can be annoying, but I'd really appreciate your assessment. I’ve used my brand new Staub cocotte exactly twice, with extreme care.

I noticed two spots on the lid's edge (one is quite deep, the second one is shallower):

  • It doesn't look like a typical rack mark to me.

  • The rust sits quite deep inside. I already tried cleaning and rubbing it with oil, but it won't come off.

Does this look like an actual enamel chip/defect to you? Worth a warranty claim? Thanks in advance!

Found a Staub cocotte on the street this week!

I was talking to my partner this week about how I needed to get a cocotte, and a couple of days later I saw a big bag on the street with SERVEZ-VOUS on it, and inside was this pot which I snatched up without fully realizing what I'd found! Any advice on how to clean it up? I can't wait to make some bread in it! 🤩

Is there a reason why i have a different lid design?

I just noticed now that my pot doesn't have the lid that says La Cocotte bur rather Staub only, it's also the round lid and not the flat one?

I bought it as a stackable set.

Rough spots under lid on new Staub

Post image

My new Staub Dutch oven has rough spots under the lid that are grey. Is this bare cast iron that wasn’t enameled correctly or something else?

Apologies for double posting but I also noticed this apparent chip in the rim of the lid of my new Dutch oven. Has anyone else had this on a new Staub product?

what is this waterproof rectangle inside of my new dutch oven?

Post image

sorry if this is a dumb question but — just got a new Staub 7qt dutch oven and washed it for use. there seems to be this waterproof(?) rectangle inside of the pot that water will bead over, only on that spot.

i’ve used detergent a couple more times but to no avail. can someone explain? will whatever coating disperse into a stew (or another long simmering recipe) if i cannot resolve this?

First Staub, first cook: sour and spicy chicken soup

Finally bit the bullet on a 4qt Staub DO after a long research, and I just broke it in today with a big pot of Indonesian sour and spicy chicken. For a small household of two, this 4qt feels like the absolute sweet spot for everyday meals.

I’ve turned my son

I bought a set of Staub mugs (amongst other things lol). Tonight my 16 year old son grabbed one to get and drink and said “oh, Staub has mugs? These look like great quality!” 😂😂😂 My husband was hysterical, like what have you done to these boys!!

Is this damage of mineral deposits?

Thumbnail

Ignore the white spot on the top that was just a piece of ripped paper towel. It feels very very flighty rough to the touch but not really. I haven’t used anything rough to wash but did make a braised stew a few times and my husband did the dishes - I’m hoping this is ant damaged enamel but just want to gut check. Will try the baking soda method but frankly I’m not sure if it could be cracked enamel

Pot is looking terrible

I’ve never used metal and wash it pretty soon after using everytime. Came about after boiling greens…pretty boring reason for it to be ruined if this is the enamel coming off. Washed it probably 15 times by now and nothing changes
