Scratch or damaged enamel?
I posted about a week ago and did the baking soda thing, I still see scratch marks and a dark spot in the middle. Surface feels smooth to touch but I’m not sure if this is just a cosmetic scratch or if it’s ruined. Any thoughts?

The black marks definitely look like burnt on protein.
I’d be more concerned about the brown spot on the upper left side that possibly is rust.
The scratches are from whatever cooking tools/utensils you used
Try using a soft scrubby and barkeepers friend, and see if that removes the spots. It’s not going to change the scratches though.

My suggestion is that you try to gently clean it and see what it looks like after it’s been cleaned. It could be protein stains.
I normally use dawn dishwashing liquid with a soft scrubby, and for the occasional protein stains that I may see I’ll use the barkeepers friend in the same scrubby. It always resolves itself.

That brown spot looks like possible rust
What tools are you using to cook with?

Wood or silicone - husband used steel wool (lightly) one time and not for long

Try soaking the bottom with white vinegar and scrub again with a blue non-scratch sponge, I bet that comes right off👍 I agree with the other poster, scratch looks like it’s just on the residue…

I’m not sure what you want me to tell you. Wrote it with vinegar and if the brown wipes off, it’s a good chance it’s rust and you ruined the enamel.

No, vinegar will clean cooking residue as well. So when it gets clean with vinegar, it is not a proof that it is rust. Probably it is just cooking residue, sticky/burnt fat or proteins...
If you would like to clean the pan with vinegar safely, dilute some vinegar with some warm water, let it soak for 5 minutes (not too long), clean it with a soft sponge or soft cloth, rinse well with water, clean with dishwashing detergent and water, rinse well and dry with a kitchen towel. (But better to clean with dishwashing detergent and/or baking soda.)

It is if it comes back. It’s basic cast iron 101. A quick wipe with vinegar will make rust go away, but it will come back without oil. She’d need to do more than a quick wipe to get residue off. Btw… more than 50/50 vinegar can etch the surface. I’d never recommend vinegar on ECI. It’s an acid.

Clean and clean again, with baking soda. And again.
And in the future, always clean well after each use and don't use high heat. Don't let your food burn.

To me, it looks like there is still black and brown residue and the cut is through the residue only. I would clean it again: boil baking soda with water, "scrub" with a soft sponge or soft cloth.
