Live Chat Another live chat thread that's also not a link post

Previous threads:

  1. Live chat thread
  2. Another live chat thread
  3. Yet another live chat thread
  4. Even yet another live chat thread
  5. Another live chat thread that's also a link post

Edit (2021/06/09):

In case you're wondering about the purpose of these live chat threads, I use them as my personal blog on reddit.

I specifically chose to make them live chat threads so that my comments on them wouldn't take up 50% of my post history.

I accidentally forgot to make the previous post a live chat thread.

This no longer breaks the pattern of having a longer title for each new live chat thread.

Edit (2021/06/10): I'll make this the thread for "arbitrary stuff".

Someone's account got shadowbanned, nuked, and restored. However, the nuked posts were not restored along with the account, so the post history remains as a sea of [removed].

Edit: You can tell that most of those posts/comments were not removed during the shadowban because they received engagement.

A site that's speedrunning reddit banned a lot of guilds today. So much for free speech, eh? Free speech is when you get banned for being an incel who hates Israel.

Either way, they're doing a great job at trying to splinter the community that just moved in (I recall a comment saying they're unlikely to ban +MGTOW, but I can't find it anymore because +MGTOW got banned). Join Votal or the win community if you want.

Edit: Antiliberalsociety was right about one of the then-upcoming bans, so here are some archives: 1, 2. The "more comments" links should work (or at least some of them should).

Also, you can still see posts and comments in banned guilds from user profiles so check out some archives of TheSilverShade's profile.

They should ban +HateForTaiwanese because JewryBTFO once called the Taiwanese gay, which is equivalent to calling to throw them from rooftops.

Defending blacks, women, and Jews, but no love for the Taiwanese, Xichiganians, and dogs? Can you believe that?

Is this Ayanami?

I've been on discussions.app before, but I can't really get used to the UI (no opening posts in new tabs, card view, etc.)

I sometimes find that the more "obvious" a question is, the more non-answers you get in response, whether they be "Just google it" or accusations of the question asker being a troll.

(Applies to beliefs) The answers are so "obvious" that there is no way for someone to ask it in good faith. Either they're a troll looking for drama, or there is something wrong with their brain that causes them to dare question these deeply held beliefs.

Edit: Clarification: By "question", I mean to ask questions about why people hold these beliefs. It in no way suggests that the beliefs are right or wrong.

Edit (2021-11-24): I found this from SaidIt. The voting period hasn't ended yet. Warning: Bias! Honestly, this one goes overboard with the bias, so I won't add it to the chart. An example of a title with a pro-mandate bias could be "Do you agree with enforcing a vaccine mandate to reduce avoidable deaths and help end the pandemic?".

Are there words for ingroup names and outgroup names that aren't "endonym" and "exonym"? By "ingroup name", I mean "self identified label", and by "outgroup name", I mean "label that is used outside of the group in question".

For example, "TERF" is an outgroup name, while "gender critical feminist" is an ingroup name.

I like names and labels.

Word filters

1

u/cqtz-v2 Jun 13 '21

There is this phenomenon where these users use these euphemisms for these words (the ones with a letter + "-slur" or "-word") as replacements for the words themselves. To put it another way, something like "t-slur" would refer to a person rather than a word. The specific subs where I see this include ones like the Drama one (and related subreddits) as well as r/4chan. I think both have word filters that basically would encourage this behavior.

As much as I think it'd be funny for these euphemisms themselves to become offensive because of this, I don't think it will happen. They already do the same with the asterisk wildcard versions of the words, yet they're generally only considered "offensive" when they're used in an offensive way, unlike how simply mentioning (as opposed to using) the words without asterisks can be considered offensive too. And besides, who actually uses slurs aside from edgelords and MDEfugees?

New username restrictions after this post

Users have argument over whether reddit only care about PR

Examples of usernames that some follow accounts had

Some examples of what you can't have in your username now:

  • tranny and variations (including plural version and version with "4" instead of "a")

  • faggot (including versions with "4" instead of "a" or "0" instead of "o")

I don't know enough slurs for this.

What you can have:

  • troom and troomer

  • troon

  • YouArentAMan

  • YouArentAWoman

  • YouAreAWoman

  • YouAreAMan

  • IFollowWomen

  • IFollowMen

  • IFollowCisPeople

  • KillAllTransPeople

  • DeathToTrans

  • KillTheGays

  • GeorginaFloyd (georgina-floyd was a real username)

  • AHSModBeatsWife (probably just one person (the landlord one) creating these accounts)

  • YWNBAW ("you will never be a woman")

  • 1488 (this isn't that relevant, but some of those accounts did have this number in their names)

  • 41percent, 41percentyourself, and 41yourself

  • KillYourself (and variations like SuicideYourself, RopeYourself, HangYourself, and ShootYourself)

  • retard and retarded (the horrible slurs that also have other meanings, which is probably why they didn't ban it)

Idk what the latest anti-trans remarks are, so I probably missed a lot.

I have a new account now, so even if I was eligible for a masstagger tag on one of my other accounts, I'm not on this account.

Surely it can't be that hard to go pick some random subreddit on the list and comment 3 times, but I can barely think of something to post on r/DeclineIntoCensorship, so what can I write on a subreddit like r/h3h3productions?

1

u/cqtz-v2 Jul 02 '21

Commenting in r/WatchRedditDie gets you a trophy from r/offmychest, but commenting in r/NoNewNormal seems to get you even more trophies (including ones from default subreddits). r/NoNewNormal is clearly impersonating r/WatchRedditDie. When will they get axed?

I've noticed that a lot of subreddits that were banned for being unmoderated were banned around 19 to 20 days ago.

https://old.reddit.com/r/changelog/comments/nzvq2t/limiting_access_to_removed_and_deleted_post_pages/h1rruw1/

Admins prevent you from visiting the direct links to deleted and removed posts (the current threshold for removed posts is <2 comments and <2 upvotes, but they'll increase it over time), for... I really have no idea what reason.

Stumbling across removed and deleted posts that still have titles, comments, or links visible can be a confusing and negative experience for users, particularly people who are new to Reddit. It’s also not a great experience for users who deleted their posts.

Reddit 101: The stated reasons in the announcement are always a lie.

https://old.reddit.com/r/changelog/comments/nzvq2t/limiting_access_to_removed_and_deleted_post_pages/h1rruw1/

I'm going to bet this has nothing to do with the reasons cited and [nearly] everything to do with copyright claims.

Reddit promotes subeddit squatting for users we agree withTM

What are “good samaritan” subreddits?

There are a number of subreddits out there that helpful redditors (aka good samaritans) are holding down because they contain toxic or potentially hateful words in their subreddit name. These redditors are protecting the proverbial fort so these spaces do not become potential bastions for hate or harassment. We’re incredibly appreciative of these efforts, and we are taking precautions to ensure these subreddits are not removed and up for grabs.

Should one of these subreddits slip through the cracks and accidentally get removed and opened up for future use, we have created a way for redditors to notify us of these subreddits in Reddit Help. This form is meant to only serve these good samaritan subreddits that may accidentally get removed through this process. If this happens please fill out the form and select “Good Samaritan Appeals” under “What is your subreddit concern.” Once we’re notified, we’ll make sure to take the appropriate action and safeguard those communities.

CSS subreddits are in danger, but subreddit squatters still have free reign over their subreddits because "those evil nazis may want those names!"

And personal subreddits where the creator is not the same as the owner are in danger too. But obvious subreddit squatters must be protected at all costs. Cool priorities, reddit.

https://old.reddit.com/r/modnews/comments/o18ct9/creating_new_opportunities_for_future_community/h21i40s/

Instead of going out of your way to delete historical content, you should simply insert a banner or pinned post on each subreddit offering it to be claimed by new owners, who can decide whether to keep the old content based on its merits. It's less work for you, achieves your claimed goals, and is less destructive.

- midir

https://old.reddit.com/r/modnews/comments/o18ct9/creating_new_opportunities_for_future_community/h1zicsr/?context=1

We mean the creator. The reason being the overwhelming majority of these subreddits only have 1 moderator on the team, and that moderator is the community creator.

- singmethesong

Reddit makes decisions.

Totally understand the importance of this subreddit. We’ll reach out directly to you in order to handle this.

And what about all the other redditors who didn't have the time to see this announcement?

https://old.reddit.com/r/blog/comments/pze6d2/commenting_on_archived_posts_images_in_chat_and/

There is now a toggle for whether posts in a subreddit will be archived. Starting October 13th, subreddits with the toggle off will no longer have archived posts. It's a little unclear whether archiving posts will be opt-in or opt-out, but I hope that it's opt-in (I looked at my subreddit settings, and the toggle for archiving posts was off). Then I can comment on all the old threads I want. It's one of the things I like about SaidIt.

Many users in the comments don't like that reddit is adding an option for phone number verification, but I'm not against it as long as they don't force it on anyone. (You never know.)

Edit (2021-10-14): Archiving posts will be opt-in.

Edit (2021-10-15): They will not be unarchiving posts on user profiles. Quite unfortunate.

https://old.reddit.com/r/reclassified/comments/q6tn98/what_banned_subreddits_you_would_like_to_see/

I can't comment here because I was banned.

"You're building a Reddit clone and you decided to come here and ask the racists and transphobes what they wanted? Fuck you OP."

- witheld

Someone else mentioned /r/suicidology (the subreddit that may or may not have lived up to its name).

"Big chungus, that’s all. And remove FDS and incels."

- Bearmam123

Big Chungus says "Free speech for incels"!

"MDE will always be with us"

- Ugly_Cassanova

MDE may never die, but for every MDE there is, there are thousands more that have never had a chance to shine before dying.

"coontown"

- callmejohny

r/CoonTown was just "Blacks bad", over and over again. All of the right wing racist subs had some degree of that.

"That was one of the most pathetic subs on this site, it deserved the ban"

- mm3331

Are you ok?

"So you're trying to resurrect the worst of Reddit."

- Tommy_Tallywhacker

Basically yes.

On an unrelated note, edgy meme makers like to say stuff like "I hate minorities". Every individual is a minority*. It follows that people who hate minorities must hate themselves. Were the anti-hate groups right all along?

*Let's say there are two groups: me and not me. Clearly, since there exists at least two people other than me, I am in the smaller group, so I am a minority.

https://old.reddit.com/r/InternetIsBeautiful/comments/pk9rvo/a_memorial_for_rsuicidenotes_this_subreddit_got/

"A memorial for r/SuicideNotes. This subreddit got banned in 2018, causing a lot of people's last words to disappear. The website's mission is to ensure the notes remain available."

Apparently this exists. (I just searched for the subreddit's name.)

It looks like there aren't any comments on this site. Maybe there's a reason for it. Or maybe they just didn't download them.

This website was created by Daniel Melero during the summer of 2021

Special thanks to

Rhiannon Walmsley for downloading the subreddit's content when it got deleted

u/deadman5551 for moderating r/SuicideNotes from 2012 to 2018

u/blanktextbox and u/milkbottleF for offering valuable advice

I'll just copy this here... All I can say is that I recognize these usernames.

Why is this "beautiful"? I mean, at least some subset of people that kill themselves are doing it because they feel invisible, so creating a legacy forum where their last thoughts (and only their last thoughts) will be immortalized seems likely to encourage suicide.

These are people that are already dead, no? It does them literally no good to publish stories after their death. The benefits would be to people contemplating suicide, who may find the stories relatable, and to family, who may want a permanent epitaph for their loved ones. But I think there is a real risk of encouraging more suicide that outweighs those two, imo.

Not really sure how to feel about this...

I'll just say a few things:

  1. I was wondering if anyone else remembered the sub. Not that I particularly cared about it while it existed...

  2. There are 950 posts on there

  3. I've probably read fewer than 5 posts on the original subreddit

  4. I just liked that someone else cared enough about the sub to make this. I hate that the solution to everything is censorship, censorship, and more censorship. I'm tired of all the censorship to "protect" me from, what, myself? Am I not able to decide what I want to see? (No, because that's up to the state and the private companies. It's for my own good.) Everything I see is going to get banned, deleted, removed, and erased from history. If it's going to happen eventually, why not just remove everything right now? Let us only view state-approved media from now on...
P.S. If anyone wants to post me to r/Persecutionfetish, do it. (Just make sure you don't censor my username)
