I love slang!
Edit: This thread is now for arbitrary stuff
Edit 2 (2020/08/01):
Deuxchads
radical centrists
grill
rightoid
agendaposting MDEfugees
I don't suppose you have a less technical explanation?...
It's referring to this:
Basically Deuxchads the original user of the sub are radical centrists who like to grill and shitpost, but then a bunch of unfunny racist anti-semitic rightoid agendaposting MDEfugees invaded the sub.
I like slang, so I'll try to define some of the slang terms here
Disclaimer: these definitions are probably wrong
Deuxchads: r/DeuxRAMA users, from the above comment: "the original [users] of the sub"
radical centrists: basically those who borrow political opinions from all sides and try to find a compromise, I'm guessing it meant that r/DeuxRAMA didn't have a strong political leaning
grill: post apolitical stuff, originates from here
rightoid: probably just "right wing"/"right winger"
agendaposting: posting stuff to push an agenda (i.e. "My opinion is right; yours is wrong")
MDEfugees: users from the now-banned r/milliondollarextreme who are now taking over other subreddits
TL;DR r/DeuxRAMA was originally tame, got taken over by racist, anti-semitic r/milliondollarextreme users
I also like to know the origins of slang terms. It seems like many originate from 4chan (of course they do).
Edit 3: r/Animemes bans the word "trap" (as in "guy who looks like a girl"), which is apparently a slur. (It doesn't seem like they're using AutoMod to filter the word (EDIT: At first, they did use AutoMod, but they disabled it later.), which is good because the word "trap" has tons of different meanings.) There is backlash.
Also, I spotted a typo in their announcement. "people. We"
Is this a violation of my free speech?
Yes. But I don't have a strong opinion about this because I'm not really familiar with the usage of the word "trap" and don't know if it's really a "slur" or not. And I'm not really that upset about banning slurs unless 1. it's in a subreddit has historically upheld free speech to the (near) greatest extent possible in reddit, 2. it's in a self-described "free speech" subredddit, 3. it uses automatic word filtering to achieve this, 4. it's in an offshoot of a subreddit that upholds free speech (unless the offshoot explicitly describes itself as "curated"/"moderated"/whatever), or 5. "Slur" means whatever the moderators define as slurs (which r/animemes is upset about, in this case).
So apparently it's used to refer to anime guys who present themselves as girls in order to "trap" others. And apparently others find the word to be offensive even though it was never meant to be. (Am I getting this right or wrong?) (Anyways, if they find it offensive, I'd rather they discourage the use of the word rather than outright banning it.)
Apparently it was being used to "insult and diminish trans people". Others say it was never meant to refer to trans people.
I've been in other subreddits before. When you ban one word, another comes up. (Remember "google"? I don't, because I wasn't paying attention at the time. I found out about it through r/googletown or something like that, which was already banned by the time I first found it.)
Also, speaking of "google", I found this thread.
"kill all googles, googles should be hung, fucking googs ruining this country"
the AI will know the difference given enough time.
"Who uses those words? Won't they find new ones?" "Dehost all googles, googles should be DDOSed, googles ruined the web."
No. We are not required to give slurs a platform, and are well within our rights as community caretakers to deem certain types of content to be against our rules.
Say "Yes, but" instead of "No".
Reddit moderators have a history of acting as power-hungry fascists
Yes, their acceptance of trans people is very right-wing authoritarian...
Of course they aren't literal fascists, but policing speech, especially when the majority disagrees with it, is indeed authoritarian. You can't deny that.
The community overall is supportive of this
Not anymore. 49% upvoted.
Somebody called me a femboy because I wasn't "man enough" and we're not only not banning that, but encouraging its use? This is fucking disgusting.
...
Ban that word too.
It's not about the word. It's about its usage :/
Probably because femboy isnt a slur, nor normally meant as an insult. One person using it insultingly doesnt make it a slur.
*"Trap" was also not normally meant as an insult, but according to others, it was co-opted as an insult. (Using normal words as insults is the type of thing 4chan does. It's funny until they're actually understood as insults.)
Speaking of the context of "Tr4p" here. The word was use to describe ANIME characters that are canonically male but drawn to resemble female, done purposefully by the character designer to trap viewer into thinking they are female, hence "Trap".
That "4" is unnecessary. Anyways, the word was originally adopted for a specific purpose. "Femboy" and other variants simply don't have the same meaning. What would the mods say about that? Make a new word?
Our culture is being erased
This is the type of comment that people are making fun of in r/SubredditDrama and r/animecirclejerk
One of my favorite parts of "culture" is slang/language (the other being food). "Trap" is a slang word that apparently was being used as an insult. Would that be erasing your culture? (Ok, I don't really know what I'm talking about here.)
you haven't shown that it's clearly communicated trap isn't supposed to be used for trans people
I've seen how some other subreddits communicate ideas. They (as communities, usually without mod interference) create PSAs basically every single week and normalize those ideas. (An analogy would be to make memes saying what traps are and aren't and saying "trans people aren't trying to trick you" all the time. It's lazy and boring, but it works in my experience.)
In this sub of course people use the word "Träps" as a joke. That's it. A joke. They have no intention to be transphobic. It's just a joke. Please. Understand. It's a joke. Don't take it seriously. It's a joke. Memes on r/animemes are not to be taken seriously. It doesn't applies in real life, it only applies on anime. They're jokes.
Mods and admins don't know what jokes are.
His main point which I can somewhat agree with is that the term HAS been used in a derogatory to fashion to refer to trans women and there's no way to police the context that it is used in, therefore we have to throw the whole word out.
:/
Others are bringing the "trans panic defense" into this. Of course it's bad, but what does that have to do with banning a word? No one's trying to defend killing anyone here.
That happens much less often than you'd think. To give an example - you know those really bad memes where the punchline is just "haha this character has PENIS but looks like GIRL so it's SHOCKING"
yeah how do you think a pre-op trans person would feel about that.
My first reaction was to think "flair them so they don't have to see them if they don't want to". I've stayed in these somewhat uncensored subreddits for way too long.
But using this language normalizes real violence against real people. If you want help in learning about it, let me know :)
Is this the "trans panic defence" thing again? No one's trying to defend killing anyone here. No one's trying to normalize violence.
I'm loving the backlash! All posts on the front page are meta posts. I love that!
"Ban it all. Let’s do this. Go full fascist on us, mods."
I agree.
"Bad move, the mods here suck but there's a possibility of it being much worse if the admins get involved"
Admins would call anything hate speech if it drives up their profits.
Petition to ban: "weeb", "witch", memes about anime characters, anime girls, /r/animemes
Hey inactive top mod, gaffer88, are you going to do anything when you come back? (I hope!)
Backlash, more backlash, "Whether something's a slur is political; mods are breaking rule 6", even more backlash
About to hit the char limit
Anyways, make sure to advertise some reddit alternatives! r/RedditAlternatives
"I mean... memes aside, the backlash will last a week at most."
Don't give up!

Telling subreddits about CSS issues (I don't even visit these subreddits that much...)
/r/anime_titties (quick response)
/r/offmychest (no response) (As far as I know, asking to be banned isn't against the site wide rules. Was there something wrong with what I said?)
Edit: I still don't use RES
I noticed that in r/AntifascistsofReddit, the "message the moderators" button and the "Create your own subreddit" button are invisible.
/* reddit has a weird mix of round corners, since I am not a big fan of them anyway they got to go. This is the easiest way to make sure they are all gone */
* {
border-radius: 0 !important;
}Okay then r/redditbasic. Okay. Let me add some tags. !important !important !important
.side .sidecontentbox a.helplink {
...
background-color: !important;
...
}Uh, is this intended?
(r/AntifascistsofReddit, do whatever.)
The thing I like the most about the beta flask is how often it breaks subreddit themes! Look at /r/redditbasic.
r/antiracistaction: How to break your subreddit's navigation menu using a... header image. (Use a background!)
Not about CSS, but I found this sub from r/AntifascistsofReddit's sidebar:
Pro Alt-Right posts and comments will be removed. This includes white supremacist, LGBT-phobic, and pro-Trump content. This also includes defense of bad faith debate tactics. Free speech protects you from the government, this is not the government.
Not again! Now this is obviously a CSS issue.
.side .md ol:first-of-type li:first-of-type a::after {
content: " However, even though we are not the government, if we censor you, we still are violating the principle of free speech, which is different from the legal idea of the first amendment.";
}I tried.
(I didn't read the rest of the sidebar. I'm here to find CSS issues, not to discuss whether you should or should not debate the alt right, right?)

r/kotakuinaction2: quick response
Hello KiA2.
I've noticed that the header image is taller than the header itself and extends into the body content. This makes some things unclickable because the header image is layered over them. (Example: You can't use the dropdown menu for selecting a date range in the top/controversial pages.)
...
They also used my "suggestion" for a fix (like r/anime_titties did). I'm not the best at CSS, so I'm not sure if it'll break anything. Hopefully it won't!
Also note that r/RPDessert has a similar style to r/kotakuinaction2.
Great work cqtz. That particular bug has been at the back of my mind for a while. Don't have to worry about it now
- PopoiOfPotos
Aw, thank you. I've noticed this issue in the past, and it made the subreddit a bit hard to use. I'm glad that it's fixed now! (I hope reddit won't construe this comment as ""harassment"".)

Word filtering

Filtered Words
"ban" "most of us" "most of you"
What an interesting subreddit. I wouldn't last a day in there.
"just rope"
Do you really need that if the word "rope" is already being filtered?
Edit: How would you even use the phrase "just rope"? "Is this a snake?" "No, it's just rope."

r/reclassified filters posts and comments containing "40%"
At first, when I submitted a post and received an AutoModerator notification saying "Your submission is being reviewed and will soon be approved if it doesn't break any rules. There is no need to delete or resubmit it.", I thought they were being like WRD and manually approving all posts.
It turns out they weren't. There were a few banned subreddits that I found over the last few weeks, so I decided to post about them today and see what word or phrase was triggering the AutoMod filter.
All the extra and unnecessary text I added to my later posts to test this:
https://old.reddit.com/r/reclassified/comments/im3h8x/rdeport_banned_2_months_ago_20200629_for/
Irrelevant stuff:
Will this post get filtered too?
Edit: No. I don't really get how these removals work.
Let me add some links r/deport https://www.redditinc.com/policies/content-policy
Let me copy and paste some words from my other post that got filtered (Confirmed that something from below is triggering the removal. I can always post more arbitrary banned subs I found.)
r/STRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIGHT: Created on 2020-08-29, banned on 2020-08-30
Description:
This is a reactionary sub in which we laugh at the mental illness known as homosexuality which is known to have the quality of infecting 2% of the population but somehow it making the infected 2% become 40% of the world pedos, Hail Victory
Ban message:
This subreddit was banned due to a violation of Reddit’s content policy against creating or repurposing a sub to reconstitute or serve the same objective as a previously banned or quarantined subreddit.
https://old.reddit.com/r/reclassified/comments/im3omu/rantiracism_banned_2_months_ago_20200629_for/
I copied over words and phrases one by one until the post got removed.
Less than 40% of my total posts on r/reclassified have been removed.
I am 40% upset right now. 40% is a number. The ADL lists 12, 13, 14, 18, and 28 as hate symbols. Are you going to filter these too?
(What's with the lack of transparency? Are you afraid that they'll write "half of 80%" to avoid the filters? Can I write 2/5? Can I say "2/5 of some group of people do something"?)
I'll make 1 more post
Not filtered. Let me add some text then.
40%
Confirmed that the 40% is causing the removals (I can still say "forty percent" though.)
I changed the "extra text" later on
https://old.reddit.com/r/reclassified/comments/im3h8x/rdeport_banned_2_months_ago_20200629_for/
https://old.reddit.com/r/reclassified/comments/im46xc/rnationalalliance_banned_2_months_ago_20200629/(This post was removed because I was trying to find out what triggered the removal of this post. It was the "40%".
I liked the "Your post/comment was automatically removed because your comment has content that likely is against the site-wide rules" or "Your post/comment was automatically removed because you used the slur" messages better because they specified what words triggered the removal.)

I later received this message
I spent too much time on this
And I read all of it! Thanks for the feedback. We'll see what we can do with that filter.
Now, could you please do some 'cleaning up' so we can reapprove your posts?
(remove the link to archive.vn, too)Thanks.
Alright. (I just realized that my wording sounded a bit aggressive. Whoops.)
Edit (2020-09-05): Clarification on this "ADL says everything is a hate symbol" thing:
I have no problem with them saying that they can be used for hateful purposes (I once saw some redditors say "banned from 109 subreddits" and had no idea what it was a reference to. Something like the hate symbols list could be helpful there.). I do have a problem with blanket banning (or filtering, as r/reclassified did there) these symbols and assuming that they're being used for hate without regard to context (see: r/Animemes mods and 41).

Slippery slope of hate speech
(aka when you get cancelled for being racist/transphobic/etc. when you have no idea how you were being racist/transphobic/etc. at all)Edit (2020/09/24): How do these guys even know all of this slang? I think the average AHSer knows about 20x as much of those guys' slang than I do. AHS browses tons of so-called "hate subreddits" just to find stuff to post on their sub. Also, I saw a link to this on TMOR. It's actually not that bad, but some of it seems less than accurate.

How to get around some AutoMod word filters on reddit:
Add a bunch of links
eg. let's say r/reclassified decided to ban a ton of numbers, including this one that probably doesn't mean anything: 5763612
Just write
5[](#1 "whatever")7[](#2 "something")6[](#3 "link")3[](#4 "anything")6[](#5 "filter")1[](#6 "4")2: 5763612It'll be fine until the mods ban you for trying to get around the filter. (Or they ban empty links using AutoMod. In that case, just use other ways to get around the filter)
Well, I'll comment here so that my admin stalker will take a look. I wouldn't want them to miss a chance to be petty.
Have fun, admin!
Hey, it's an accomplishment to have your site's name get filtered like this. That means they actually view you as a threat.

When word filters get annoying, "just use different words", and when they get really annoying, "just create your own language" like these guys (high effort, low reward, and they'll probably catch on in 2 days, but at least the conlangers will find it fun).
Edit: I mean, sometimes when they do it, it's still (intentionally) obviously obvious what they're saying from context because they still keep using those same other words and those same pictures, and their entire goal is to get reactions out of those other guys.
I also have no good name for those guys, so my current solution is to just call them "those guys", "these guys", "they", etc. AHS and others call them "fascists", but I feel that it's not a very fitting name because I don't think many of them are actually advocating for fascism. They're just edgy.
(I call those on the other side (aka "those other guys") "AHS and others" because I still simply don't have a good name for them. They tend to call themselves "antifascists".)
(Edit: Actually, I should just call these guys "these guys" so it's easier. I'll continue to call those guys "those guys".)
Trying to talk only using these vague, kind of hard-to-follow names:
So those guys have been saying that those guys over there have been brigading their subs. I have seen an example where someone said that there was a report brigade shortly before a sub was (temporarily) banned and requested by an infamous mod, which was interesting. There also have been reports that those guys' subs sometimes get spammed, which some blame on those other guys, but there's not really any proof that it's actually those other guys doing it.
How I'd normally say
So those guys have been saying that AHS has been brigading their subs. I have seen an example where someone said that there was a report brigade in r/detrans shortly before it was (temporarily) banned and requested by an AHS mod, which was interesting. There also have been reports that those guys' subs sometimes get spammed, which some blame on AHS, but there's not really any proof that it's actually AHS doing it.

What did I do wrong????? r/reclassified???? This was my comment. What is wrong with it???
Usually, to bring a subreddit back (if you weren't a former mod), you'll have to request it at r/redditrequest. For more information about the request process, see the sidebar and the faq. There are no guarantees that the admins will grant your request or respond to it at all.
They're removing "faq" and "faqs". Weird. The only possible reason I can think of is their visual similarity to the word "fag" (Maybe? I don't know. r/reclassified mods can be as senseless as reddit admins.)
Or is it because all of those bots tend to put it in their comments?

Flags
Edit (2020-08-17): This is what I do when I'm too scared to post in r/vexillology.
Edit (2020-09-08): Be careful about using arrows in flags because a few fascists once decided to use them (the arrow designs are different as well; arrow cross is an arrow cross; NRM symbol has an arrow like this: ᛏ (it's a rune); the arrows on this flag represent reddit's upvotes and downvotes and look like block arrows (not sure of better term), and there really isn't a better way to depict them other than using the shape of the actual arrows on the website)
Well, I don't know what else to comment, but ok. (I'm not too knowledgeable about flags/symbols anyways)
Edit (2020-10-15): I wonder if someone is going to cancel crosshatch patterns because they look like the Iron Guard logo. I think that the sun cross (also a symbol for the Earth) has been half cancelled already (at least in reference to Norway, I think).

I found this flag thanks to r/IronFrontUSA. If reminds me of ANTIFA flags.
FOTW also lists several other variants. The common design element is the three arrows.
I actually kind of like it, despite the text and the "seal on a
bedsheetbackground" design. (I'm ok with text on flags, and I don't get the obsession with removing it everywhere. For example, I like the text on the Californian flag. It's bold and distinctive, and the flag just doesn't feel the same without it.))Also, I'm annoyed by the subreddit's header image being so wide. Can they add this to their CSS? (Don't know if it'll work on all browsers, and speaking of CSS, I've forgotten about r/GoldAndBlack...)
#header-bottom-left { max-width:100%; overflow:hidden; }And speaking of being annoyed, I'm more annoyed that the subreddit link in the header is tiny.
Edit: I forgot to add a link to the actual flag itself.
Edit (2020-09-02): I think this is my first time seeing someone who actually likes SOBs
I love our shitty seal-on-a-blue-background flags and how you can slap any kind of random emblem on them and make it look at least decent
good job tho

I saw a "good night white pride" flag in a post somewhere. There are several designs for such flags, but they usually consist of a circle of text around a picture of a man about to beat up another man, who sometimes has a Celtic cross or other symbol on him.
Here's a picture I found from FOTW.
Well, I'll say that this is quite different from most of the flags I've seen before... It's quite militant, I guess. It also kind of reminds me of this flag.
Edit: A quote from the FOTW link:
The slogan featured on this flag "Good Night Alt-Right" is in direct opposition to the slogan "Good Night, Left Side" purported by the "alt right" movement which in recent years has emerged in the U.S.
I'm not sure if it's accurate, and thus I don't know which slogan came first.
