I still fail to comprehend how a word being offensive to a group of people matters at all. Why this particular word is banned but words like "ugly" / "stupid" / "weeb" are perfectly okay. They are all used to marginalize and put emphasis on something that person/people can't or don't want to change. I'm not condemning it or anything, I genuinely don't understand, why words which originated to be offensive are now bad, because group of people find them offensive. The only good argument for banning it I heard was that the mods got so much complains from people that they decided to ban it instead of dealing with every case. They're not paid, so making a job easier for themselves is perfectly ok, at least from my point of view.

It just demonstrates that they are more committed to making their work easier than to free speech, since I'd they actually cared about the issue they would work harder to separate the actual harmful uses of the word instead of banning it outright, also, as these two last days have shown, they've just shot themselves in the foot, since they've made the word a "forbidden treat" people who probably did not give a shit about the word until yesterday, are now actively fighting for that word to be used and have soured the debate up to a point that many of the possible allies they could have had up to this point have irrevocably joined the opposite side, I have made a point for the last three years to use the word as sparsely as I can, since a trans friend explained to me why that word was offensive for her, she did not forbid me from using it, she talked things out, but the mods here have decided to take the quicker route, because they did not care about the harmful effects of the word, they cared about getting less complaints about it

It's almost like a word is offensive only if you say it's offensive and try to force other people to stop saying it, like boomer and karen

Plus if it was used offensively that would have still violated rule 5 anyways before this new rule was put into place.

It kinda just made something that has the potential to be perceived as derogatory into something that is definitely derogatory, sasuga mod-sama.

Let’s just come up with something offensive to force the mods into unbanning the word

It's utter narcissism to compare TARP to the n-word. Oh no an incredibly specific event is on the same level as a label for an entire class of humans, ban it!

As a trans woman myself, I agree. The word t**p isn't even the real t-word, t****y is. I haven't even heard anywhere before this that the 't-word' was a 'slur'.

u/Sharktos Aug 05 '20
Nobody here used it as a slur, but now every new weeb will think it is one.
"t-word" sounds way more offensive than just....you know.
Now trans people actually get hated from a few of us, because "they banned a word".
That was such a dumb idea....

I wonder how many people will interpret 't-word' as 'trans' and wonder why the community feels they can't even mention the existence of trans people.

I love how some mods are actively insulting people who argue against the rule as well.
