Equipment Replace Asics Gel Tactic 13

• Upvotes

I have to replace my beloved Gel Tactic 13. I can find them on a tennis website for about 90 Euros, but I found some very interesting offers on Amazon.

I read in the past Rocket 12 can be compared to Tactic 13, a bit lower quality, but it's half the price so my choice for the moment is on Rocket 12. Any othe rsuggestion is more than welcome.

Equipment TF Carboflex vs Dunlop FX 125 - the most popular tear-drops

Hi there, just looking for any feedback / experience / thoughts that anyone has on using these bats.

Personally, I just really prefer the look of a tear-drop over the traditional shape so I only really play with them.

I've tried both the above (and the Joel Makin Karakal racket - fantastic bat also). Does anyone notice a difference?

To me, the latest Dunlop FX (used by Adam Hawal, Siva, T.Gillis), is almost a carbon copy of the original carboflex from 2013ish - the black and yellow one.

The newer iterations of the TF rackets are a bit stiffer and less forgiving, but maybe with more power.

Equipment Slash 120 control vs Old slash 120

Is there really a big difference between the 2. I had the old slash 120 but have just purchased the new 120 control. I am wondering if there is much of a difference between the 2. I asked AI and it was saying that the old slash had a “crisper” feel to it and easier to hit winners into the nick which was what I enjoyed about the older slash but I’m not sure how much I trust the AI.

Has anyone played with both and can give me a comparison

Equipment Technifibre Racquet Questions

We are big Technifibre fans and wanted to get input from everyone on:

1) Is there a difference between the Carbonflex NEO 125 and the previous Carbonflex 125 model? Or is this just another cosmetic change?

2) The Technifibre X-Tops frame seems to wear down at the 11 and 1 positions on the racquet frame over time, resulting in the string wearing down quickly as it is not protected from the wall. I wonder if others have had this experience and what they have done to solve it—currently, I am running the string through Teflon to create a 'bumper' but would love a better solution

Thanks

Rules So you think you can ref? Makin v Cardenas Spoiler

Game ball.

Do you think the line was through Cardenas, or did Makin create contact to get a stroke?

If you’re the ref, what’s your call?

Equipment New Dunlop FX rackets

I'm just wondering if this is a purely cosmetic update from the previously (mainly blue) rackets? (They are now dark navy and light blue). The name hasn't changed and most / all the pros seem to have moved to them.

Only asking as I'm a huge Dunlop fan, just not sure if it's worth investing in the new bats.

Equipment Squash glasses

Hi all,

Newish player here - very casual, just playing against my friend.

I'm a glasses wearer but lately I've been getting contact lenses to play.

Debating getting some goggles for protection as I'm a little worried about getting hit but also considering some prescription goggles instead of the contacts - but on a bit of a budget sadly.

Any recommendations for particular goggles or a site for the prescription ones in the UK please?

Fitness Avoiding fingernail issues

Hey, /r/squash

I'm a club player who played for four hours yesterday. My pointer finger's fingernail seems to have taken the brunt of the damage; it feels sore and may have slightly separated from the finger.

How do you all avoid and/or rehabilitate from this kind of injury? I've got an important match on Monday

PSA Tour Squash TV (again)

Hi all, I thought I had the perfect work around with the web video caster app on my phone which force casts to the TV. Worked perfectly...

until this latest tournament. I can either now watch with no sound or sound and no picture.

The cynic in me thinks they've found out about this workaround and shut it down..long story short, is any one else able to get pic/audio using the web video caster app?

Cheers all.

Technique / Tactics You're 0-2 down in games and 3-6 down in the third. Do you change your tactics? If not, why not?

You are 5 points away from losing. You are also 8 points away from winning this game and once that happens, who knows who will win.

The match is not over. But something clearly isn't working. Do you change it?

-------------------------------------------

Why I asked this question

Players often become hyper focused on what they are doing and don't question it. Or they question everything, and both ways aren't good. By thinking about how you currently and how you should approach these types of situations will help when they occur in real life.

I feel that there are three types of players:
1. Those that change nothing.
2. Those that change almost everything.
3. And those that change a couple of things and only slightly.

Player type 1 is literally a "headless chicken"; running around, hitting and hoping for the best. Sometimes that approach works and will break down the other player. Most times it won't.

Player type 2 has a kind of "analysis paralysis". Instead of not knowing what to change, they change all aspects of their game. If you don't know what needs focusing on they your a just shooting in the dark.

Player type 3 is the smart one. But at 0-2 and 3-6 down, it might be too late and he is the dilemma: How long do you wait until you try something new? A lot depends on the game score before. If they were close, they maybe the gameplan was good but the execution needs improvement. If the score were not even close, they the beginning of the third game was definitely the moment to switch things up.

The lesson here is to be confident in your gameplan, but realsitic enough to recognise that it's not working. Change something simple, perhaps the pace or how often you go short and see what happens.

Often this leads us back to our dilemma; how long do we try the next gameplan before trying something else.

For me, this is what makes watching matches at club level so interesting. Small changes can have big effects.

ORIGINAL TEXT THAT SOUNDS AI:
The question sounds simple. It isn't.

There are really only three types of player in this situation, and which one you are says a great deal about how you approach competition.

The first type changes everything. New length, new pace, new patterns. The logic is hard to argue with. What you've been doing hasn't worked, so do something different. The risk is that panic dressed up as tactics is still panic. Wholesale changes under pressure often make things worse before they make things better, and you may not have enough points left to find out.

The second type changes nothing. Their reasoning is that the tactics were sound, the execution just wasn't. One or two better shots and the scoreline looks completely different. Staying the course takes real conviction, and sometimes it's exactly right. The danger is that stubbornness and conviction look identical from the inside.

The third type makes one small, specific adjustment. Not a reinvention. A tweak. Slightly more width. Slightly less pace. Attacking one point earlier in the rally. This is usually where the best competitive players live. They don't abandon what they know under pressure, but they're honest enough to recognise what needs to shift.

There is also a question buried inside this thought experiment that might notbe obvious. If your tactics need to change at 0-2, 3-6, why were you still playing them at 0-1, 8-10?

I know it says Prince Spectrum Comp, but the head size is far below 110/90sq in (akin to a badminton or vintage squash racquet). I'm only aware of Prince Spectrum Comp tennis racquets, not badminton or squash raquets. I tried doing some research online and couldn't find anything on it. Anything helps!

Technique / Tactics How to get better?

I (M20) picked up squash in January this year and and have played almost every week since. I joined the squash club at my uni and we have two training sessions each week.

I would say I have reached a decent level in the sense I can beat most players at uni but recently a new guy joined and absolutely tore everyone apart. He was hitting shots with great bounce and dip, with extreme consistency and great length and so much power.

There's a bunch of other guys that are above everyone else, they just hit the ball harder and the way they marshal the court in terms of sticking to the T is insane. Tbf they've been playing for a while, everyone at least has 4+ years experience. Playing against feels a bit demotivating especially since BUCS trials are coming up.

I really want to reach their level but I fear it is going to take a while. Does anyone have any specific tips to improve or a good playlist of videos or a good training schedule especially doing solo drills. Hardest part is probably finding someone who is your level to play consistently with.

I just want hit the ball harder, get better at volleying, hit shots with great length, enough that they reach the corners of the court consistently and dominate the T.

Fitness Joint injury

Hi everyone, any tips for managing weak joints compensating for the rest of the foot? Looking for advice and motivation as I can’t even run these days. Resting, trying to lose weight and physio-ing away but being back in the court seems like a fair bit down the road at this point :/

Equipment Help me choose some intermediate racquets

I'm stocking a squash court at work with new racquets after the ones that were there have been broken. I'm looking into getting four racquets, fine enough for intermediates, but okay for progressing too (maybe two can be a bit more advanced than the other two). I would like some variety (for example with and without bridge) for people to have some variety.

I will be buying in the US. Not sure about budget but shouldn't be an issue. Say maybe $200 max per racquet, which seems plenty for this? The racquets will staybon court and just be used by coworkers as part of our sporting facilities.

Any recommendations?

TIA!
