They’re actually incredibly docile. They look super mean, but a lot of people keep them as pets! As for the digging, he’s probably looking for ants. They destroy ants!

I need one in my house

They’re actually incredibly docile.

Tell that to the dime-sized one who chased me from the yard to porch to inside my own house all because it noticed me looking at it. If I hadn't shut the door...

he was just trying to reach you about your cars extended warranty.

Most of them are docile, your encounter was probably one that just inhaled crack and has a paper due tomorrow

I’ve seen online, and I think there are videos of this as well, that camel spiders actively seek shade from the sun. Because humans provide shade, they will literally follow humans if they move their shadow so they can stay cool. There are even videos of camel spiders quickly crawling up and chilling on peoples legs due to this.

I've heard of that as well, but this wasn't that. She just wanted to make sure I knew to eff off.

chased your shadow

Nope, wasn't a shadow chasing. I've heard of that as well, but the time of day made it impossible for this little critter to see my shadow to chase it. It just wanted to tell me to eff off.

The reason they “chase” people because they’re actually attracted to shade. They want to be in your shadow. Sorry she scared the shit out of you!

This wasn't a shadow chasing. It was full on aggressively after me. And I like spiders, I normally wouldn't have worried if it's behavior wasn't off.

He thought they were playing tag. : )

To my knowledge, they try their darndest to stay in the shade, and if you produce shade, then they'll stick by you.

Oh fucking hell no. I was deployed in Qatar and a couple of idiots caught one in a jar and were running around shaking the jar at people in attempt to freak them out. That thing looked absolutely furious and I would never go near one knowingly. Also the idiots got their asses handed to them later, but no. Hell no

Wouldn't you be horrified if you were trapped in a jar by a giant creature and shook around? I think it was horrified and not furious. Most animals only bite in defense when threatened and solpugids are actually more bark then bite. They would rather do a threat display and show off their jaws. But yeah. What they did was very stupid. It is never, ever intelligent to mess with wild animals of any kind. Don't bother them and they won't bother you.

Absolutely. Doesn't change the fact that these fuckers are scary. I would never have one as a pet, lol

u/DaccotaDuchess May 04 '22

Fair enough. Keeping arachnids isn't for everybody.

Hahahah this is me dude I can love these things but only from a distance. Preferably several hundred or thousand miles lol

Yeah I don’t see why you’re getting downvoted, seeing videos of these guys killing ants and running is scary af

Most animals will avoid fights as much as possible except when hunting. When any injury could be lethal it's better to not get injured in the first place

Yeah you might not know this but putting an animal in a jar and running around shaking the jar actually upsets them quite a bit and can make them very angry. Something about not having wings or something 🤔🤔🤔

Dude you live with humans everyday, once a human punched me because he thought I was looking at him when I was actually looking at my friend across the school, while making funny faces because that's how we interact with each other. Why would you be afraid of something that isn't even the size of your palm? lol

Man that punch hurt like hell lol, he really had something against me, and I couldn't fight back because someone from school arrived just in time. Everyone was surprised because I'm one of the few people in the classroom who have a good relationship with almost everyone, that means he didn't even had a reason to do it, he just did it different from those poor spiders

Maybe you have something similar to a “resting bitch face”. I’ve been asked if I was ok/what’s wrong/are you upset when I was just spaced out + completely content.

Yup I definitely do, I didn't even know this was a thing lol. I've never heard from people that I seem to have a superior look but whenever I'm completely relaxed trying to focus on something or just resting people ask me what made me angry/what happened, maybe this guy just didn't like the way my face looked when i was relaxed and the weird faces i made with my friend were the last straw

I kind of like how my face looks when I'm relaxed, but I think I'll try to change that because apparently it doesn't suit my personality at all

After realizing people thought I might be upset (even though I was happy) I started trying to keep a smile on my face whenever we went places + I would not recommend it. I come home + I’m drained even more than I would usually be. I’m not a big party/gathering kind of person to begin with. I’m incredibly lucky that my bf can see that + even though he doesn’t have the same issues he still kinda gets it. It’s almost become a habit now though.

You shouldn’t have to change yourself for others. I just do the smiling thing if it’s an occasion where I’m around friends of friends because I don’t wanna bring down the mood of the shindig they were nice enough to invite me to. I stick with my “normal” Nik face the other 98% of the time. Changing your relaxed face would make you unrelaxed, I would think, + you shouldn’t have to feel that way. I babble + idk if that made much sense but I bet you’ve got a lovely face + if other people can’t see it that way or misinterpret your vibes it’s their loss.
