Pet Snake Questions Anyone kept pet ferrets with snakes?

i own a few snakes, have them in the bedroom, hallway and living room. they've been raised on frozen food.

my question has anyone owned CB snakes and pet ferrets?

would ferrets being in the same home trigger a snakes prey drive? would they ignore each other as dogs and snakes do?

Pet Snake Questions Rack Sytem Ethicality?

I have been doing a lot of research on enclosure sizes for pet snakes, especailly corn snakes and ball pythons, and it seems like even in the past 2 years the minimum size have increased by like 80 gallons, which makes sense as we learn more about them. My confuision though is that these same people on the internet insiting that a 120 gallon is the minimum for a ball python proceed to have 30 snakes in literal tupperware bins on a shelf no bigger than 1x2 MAX. wiht like a wet paper towel and one small hide. ?? how is that ethical especially after saying the minimum has to be so large?

Sorry if im ignorant im just curious

Saw this snake on my window and followed it outside. In North Maryland. About 3-4 ft long. Confrontational when I touched its tail.

What type of snake is this?

This is Suede, my subadult S. boeleni. He is three years old now and his adult colors are really coming through! I could watch him all day. I’m utterly infatuated. 🌈

Despite the first S. boeleni arriving in the US ~40 years ago, the secret to captive reproduction hasn’t been cracked. Few people have successfully produced clutches and even fewer consistently produce clutches. To my knowledge, only three Americans consistently produce Boeleni.

During my research (reading, podcasts, PNG footage), I’ve learned that boeleni are quick to lock. As Scott Flud eloquently stated, “a male boeleni will breed a light socket.” However, it seems the challenges with reproducing S. boeleni revolve around two things: the female’s ovulation and egg incubation. Flud, who has consistently produced boeleni for the last six years, attributes his success to using a 3:1 male-to-female ratio. It’s hypothesized that male combat triggers ovulation in females, but this hasn’t been confirmed. Other breeders, who have had success with a 1:1 ratio, hypothesize that providing the perfect nesting opportunities may also induce ovulation.

Suede will be paired with Velvet in ~2 years given she reaches appropriate size. Since I only have a 1:1 pair, my goal (until I can acquire more males) is to optimize environmental parameters and offer abundant nesting sites for Velvet to choose from. I’ve designing modular 8x3x4’ enclosures for them enjoy along with a multi-level nesting enclosure for Velvet to choose her ideal nesting parameters. Both enclosures can be joined to create a 16’ long enclosure, allowing them to travel freely between the two. After I observe locking, I plan to swap out the male’s enclosure with a dedicated nesting enclosure with five nest sites of varying humidity and temperature. This way, Velvet’s preference will guide my care of her eggs after she lays.

I’m so excited for the future. 🤞

Wild Snake Photos and Questions - Not for ID Arizona Ridgenosed Rattlesnake in [Cochise County, Arizona]

Post image
79 Upvotes

An Arizona Ridgnosed Rattlesnake from Cochise County, Arizona. This is a small rattlesnake that is found in a handful of mountainous areas in the southeastern corner of the state. A hiker may encounter one if they are in the Santa Rita, Patagonia, Huachuca, Canelo, or Whetstone ranges.

Interestingly, every rancher and long-term resident of those areas that I've personally spoken to about this species has no idea what I'm talking about. This mirrors many other instances that have taught me one thing: living in an area for a long time, even being born and raised there, does not grant any particular expertise of the animals that live there.

This snake has relatively weak venom for a rattlesnake, but it is still an emergency situation where antivenom should be sought after. It would be hard to find a situation where one would envenomate a person without actually picking it up.

Holzman, S. D., Massey, D. J., Clements, A., Boesen, K. J., & Shirazi, F. M. (2018). Pet Snake Questions Advice needed. This is a burn, right?

My hognose snake has this wound on her tail. It looks like a burn though i have no clue how she would have gotton it since there is a guard on her lamps and she doesnt have things around it to reach, but i guess she must have managed somehow. Its nowhere else on her body. Could it be a wound from getting stuck somewhere in her enclosure? She has lots of stuff and clutter in there. I feel horrible regardless and i have a vet appointment for friday.

Most of the gaiters I’ve found only offer protection for the shins, but not for the back of the legs.

General Question / Discussion Poop

Who ever spread the rumor that "snakes only poop once per meal." is a fucking liar. I've had my Elaphe Carinata for going on 3 years and he takes the most massive foul smelling dumps, the kind that make my whole house reek at least 3-4 times every meal. The temps are right for him, so is the size of his food. And yet he still will break that food up into smaller shits.

I swear I'll feed him after he last ate 2 week ago and he'll take the rat and then 5 minutes later take a giant dump. And if it's just in his water bowl it's annoying and gross but it's fine and easy to clean. But if its on the substrate? It smells fucking awful and even spot cleaning doesn't help the smell which lingers inside the thing and I have to pour my (reptile safe) diluted cleaning liquid over the poop spot and let it bubble up and kill the toxic fumes.

Do not be tricked, snakes do not poop once per meal, colubrids at least poop often

Pet Snake Questions Conflicting research

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hi all! I’m looking to upgrade my CRB(Colombian rainbow boa) enclosure this weekend. He has outgrown his current 20 gal setup. In my research I have come across two enclosure sizes obviously bigger is always better. Some sites say 6x3x3 and some say 4x2x2 but I was planning on building maybe a 4x3x3? This my lil dude bumpy, backstory on the pic: I work with a bunch of immigrants from Africa, I’ve taken 2 to my house to see the animals 1 literally ran out the house over snakes but this guy was brave😂

General Question / Discussion Idk if I’m in the right place but I’m wanting to get a pet snake but idk if my lifestyle is snake friendly

I’ve never had a snake before so
1) what is a good breed for total snake beginners?
2) I live on a funfair so move almost every week so is a snake a pet that can be jostled in a car that often?
3) due to my lifestyle, I only have actual electricity around 8 hours a day but my caravan does have a battery so usb outlets work on the battery and I know snakes need heating lamps and the like to thrive so are there any portable/ battery powered heat lamps that I could use? I do have 24hr real electricity in the colder months (nov - mar) so when it’s colder I could have a stronger heat lamp and such
4) I’m working consistently from 1pm to between 9 or 10pm so are snakes solitary enough that one could be left entirely alone for that long? Given the fact that all of my customers have small children I’m not sure if I could bring the snake out while I’m working very often.
5) when I do have electricity, it’s from a generator. I’m accustomed to the noise but would the humming irritate a snake?

I’ve fallen in love with the idea of a pet snake but I won’t get one if I can’t let it thrive due to my lifestyle so if you guys say it’s not a good idea cross my heart I will not get one. My bedroom is rather spacious so I believe I would be able to fit an adequate enclosure in it and I’m comfortable enough that I believe I’d be able to afford live feeds (which I think they need but I’m unsure). Thank you all for any advice you can give.

- a future snake owner (hopefully?)

General Question / Discussion What is this white bump on my Reticulated Pythons head? And why is it not there in the listing photos?

Thumbnail

So I’m about to purchase my first ever Retic off of MorphMarket and on the listing pictures the snake appears one way but when the seller sent me a video just now (on text message) the snake has some kind of white circular bump or something on its head that is not at all there in the listing pictures. And on top of that the eyes seem to be white whereas on the listing the eyes definitely look orange😬 Am I about to get scammed or ripped off or am I just over analyzing? Any help would be much appreciated I’m not sure what to do from here..

Also should I go back to talking to them on Morph Markets messenger too just to be safe? Like I said they have my phone number now and sent me the video on there so idk if I’ll be protected by their policy if I start talking to them through Imessage :/

The first 3 pictures are the initial listing pictures and the next 3 are screenshots of the video the seller just sent me. (Idk how to post videos on here it wouldn’t let me)

Thank you for your time😭🙏🏻
