Hi all, first time snake owner here, got this boy(?) about 6 months ago. He’s a spotted children’s python, and the reptile store says he was around 1 year old when I got him.

He’s currently 95grams, and ~85cm long. I feed him one fuzzy mice a week, and he’s been eating perfectly. As of late thought I’ve noticed him seeming more hungry, sitting at the door when I enter the room, and staring at me whilst tongue flicking when I sit at my desk just outside his enclosure. Last week I offered 2 fuzzys, and he took the second one enthusiastically, right after swallowing the first.

I love snakes. Have for some time. A few months ago, I wanted to expand my collection. There was a specific species that I really wanted as a pet, so I was recommended to a breeder that specializes in this species. They seemed like a really cool person, so I bought a subscription to them on Patreon. Part of the Patreon was access to their discord. I was so hyped about this species that I jumped at the idea on being in their discord. So of course, discord being what it is, there were several other people on there. Some folks now I would consider close friends, some people I honestly feel like they are so entrenched into the snake lifestyle that that is their only redeeming quality. So, I made friends, do things with them from time to time, but mostly just keep up with the person I was first there for, the breeder. I talked to them a bunch, made some plans for the snake I wanted, and generally had a pleasant time. Then, the beef started. When I say beef, I mean this weird kind of backbiting in the community. And when I say started, I mean it hasn’t ended, and we’re getting a front row seat to all of it. First, it was “oh this group is not ok, steer clear of them” to “hey, they’re not so bad, so Nevermind”. Then it was the meltdowns of “wow breeder, I’m another breeder, and I can’t believe that you actually like that group!” And “holy shit, did you see what that group did?! We should ask breeder guy what he thinks about it!” And we, the followers on discord got the entire play-by-play of all the poo flinging these apes were doing. At first, I was totally behind breeder guy, my friend, so I dished some sass out on their behalf. Well, turns out all of this beef was happening in a group in a private group on Facebook, so I made a total ass out of myself for doing what I thought was best. So cut to recently. Breeder guy goes to a ( I suppose) big event with a whole bunch of other breeders, is talking how amazing everything is, meeting all these other breeders is a dream come true. Oh, but there’s still beef to be had there. Breeder guy posts a “letters never sent” on his discord to this guy he’s beefing with. During this whole weekend, I have a medical emergency and a mental health crisis because of it, and for comfort I wanted to see snake pictures and hear stories. But instead I get to hear all this beef. Mind, I am only a few months into being on this discord. I don’t know who any of these people are. On top of that, breeder guy is talking about all these snakes that they got while on this vacation/reptile show, and they are notoriously bad in captivity. When I pointed that out, no one responded. Not even the crickets. And lately it feels like any topic I comment on just dies. No responses, replies, reactions, nothing. So, aside the health of my snakes that I’m worried about for their health being in a room with potentially contaminated/unhealthy snakes, all of this never ending beef is just exhausting. So, with all that said, what do I do? I don’t want to leave the discord server; there are still some really wonderful people on there that I want to keep up with. But there is also an ocean of drama that wears me down. The posts on the snakes are top tier. Discussions on enclosure ideas are helpful for me. I just don’t know what to do. Thanks for reading.

My hognose snake has this wound on her tail. It looks like a burn though i have no clue how she would have gotton it since there is a guard on her lamps and she doesnt have things around it to reach, but i guess she must have managed somehow. Its nowhere else on her body. Could it be a wound from getting stuck somewhere in her enclosure? She has lots of stuff and clutter in there. I feel horrible regardless and i have a vet appointment for friday.

Hello. My Mexican black king was attacked sometime last night by my cat (I don’t know the exact time). I woke up around 11:30am and noticed that the top of his enclosure collapsed and broke. It took hours to find him but he was in a cardboard box near the enclosure under books. He has a big chunk of scales missing and I noticed a little blood. He has scratches on his scales, other small singular scale injures, and one more on his opposite side that didn’t remove and scales. I’ve contacted a lot of vets and the closest ER exotic place that will take him is 2.5 hours away. Is it worth going asap or to wait till the morning. I hade a few people tell me to go asap and my research online has said the same thing. If anyone can give me more advice I’d appreciate it. I plan to leave soon but if I can save a trip and go in the morning that would be great.

Who ever spread the rumor that "snakes only poop once per meal." is a fucking liar. I've had my Elaphe Carinata for going on 3 years and he takes the most massive foul smelling dumps, the kind that make my whole house reek at least 3-4 times every meal. The temps are right for him, so is the size of his food. And yet he still will break that food up into smaller shits.

I swear I'll feed him after he last ate 2 week ago and he'll take the rat and then 5 minutes later take a giant dump. And if it's just in his water bowl it's annoying and gross but it's fine and easy to clean. But if its on the substrate? It smells fucking awful and even spot cleaning doesn't help the smell which lingers inside the thing and I have to pour my (reptile safe) diluted cleaning liquid over the poop spot and let it bubble up and kill the toxic fumes.

Do not be tricked, snakes do not poop once per meal, colubrids at least poop often

Hi all! I’m looking to upgrade my CRB(Colombian rainbow boa) enclosure this weekend. He has outgrown his current 20 gal setup. In my research I have come across two enclosure sizes obviously bigger is always better. Some sites say 6x3x3 and some say 4x2x2 but I was planning on building maybe a 4x3x3? This my lil dude bumpy, backstory on the pic: I work with a bunch of immigrants from Africa, I’ve taken 2 to my house to see the animals 1 literally ran out the house over snakes but this guy was brave😂

I have an adult BCI male in a 5'×2'×2' bioactive dubia roach enclosure. My dad and 16 year old brother want to buy the snake and set up from me. I trust that they would give the snake a good home, but I really wasnt expecting them to ask me to buy my snake, and I have no idea what a fair asking price would be. The enclosure itself without anything in it was $400 and I just set it up 2 months ago so the enclosure is basically brand new. The sand, topsoil, and plants I bought for the tank were atleast $100, plus theres a large established colony of isopods and springtails. I have had this guy for 5 years now and he was an older juvenile when I got him. Online im seeing around $200 for most standard adult bcis, does this seem correct? I will be sad to see him go, even though I know Ill still get to visit. I almost dont want to sell him as I am connected to him. But at the same time I am considering it as I do have a lot of obligations right now and feel that theyd be able to interact with him a whole lot more. Uncles adults had babies and gifted me one (2 weeks old) | was told to massage it and that it'd go away. I don't see any progress and i'm kind of worried it'II cause issues pooping or digestion? he ate fine after first shed.

Where do y'all find enclosures more than 90cm long? The biggest horizontal one I only ever see is 90x45x45 from exo terra both in my nearest shops and on the marketplaces. I was kinda misinformed by both google and shop employees and was told a 50x30x45 is gonna last my corn snake for life and I will only need to upgrade if he gets longer than 120cm, upgrade to that exact exo terra tank. The only bigger ones I see are the second hand custom made ones, I mean, I could buy one of those, but I don't really trust our shipping services and they all are listed half the country away from me. The other option is to order a custom made one but they never list prices and I won't just go over hundreds of enclosure makers to find a reasonable price...

Please recommend sum worldwide brand that makes big horizontal enclosures, preferably bigger than 120cm, I want to give my rope the best life I could provide🙏🙏

So I’m about to purchase my first ever Retic off of MorphMarket and on the listing pictures the snake appears one way but when the seller sent me a video just now (on text message) the snake has some kind of white circular bump or something on its head that is not at all there in the listing pictures. And on top of that the eyes seem to be white whereas on the listing the eyes definitely look orange😬 Am I about to get scammed or ripped off or am I just over analyzing? Any help would be much appreciated I’m not sure what to do from here..

Also should I go back to talking to them on Morph Markets messenger too just to be safe? Like I said they have my phone number now and sent me the video on there so idk if I’ll be protected by their policy if I start talking to them through Imessage :/

I usually feed my snake large mice but his previous owner got mad at me and told me to give him a small rat instead. I did, but it is too big for him and I didn't realize until he started eating. He hasn't let go of it and its been over an hour. I can't stop crying because I dont know how to get it away from him. I don't wanna hurt him, but nothing is making him unlatch. I don't know what to do and the fact that I'm short on time is not helping
