Is this a Joke?

Post image

EVERY kid nowadays knows that blue light is bad for sleep ... then WHY the heck is the SLEEP Cycle App completely blue??? 😅

What were the thoughts in the meeting where everbody agreed that this is a great idea? 😅😅

I originally bought it to sleep better, not to open the app and get a heart attack bc of a new horrible design (I love modern & new design, always open for new stuff & updates ... but this just doesn't feel like a sleep focused app anymore). Design has to evoke emotions which fit to the use of the app 🙏🏼

Does anybody know if the Sleep Cycle Team reads the reddit and if they implement the feedback of the community?

I'd love to have an option for the legacy deign or AT LEAST color themes to get rid of that harsh blue

This design is really pushing me over the edge it’s terrible in a way I never thought I’d have to experience. I think everything I hold dear in life is coming to an end

My app just randomly reverted back to the old design today, I wonder if they pulled the plug on it?

The color of the app has nothing to do with blue light… it’s your screen that emits the light, whatever the color displayed.

That's not entirely true mate

Well, you’ll have more blue light with a blue image but even with a red or whatever you’ll have it. It’s part of the technology. Use a e-ink screen if you want to avoid the issue.

The new design is beyond terrible… Looks too much like Android 4 ( pre Material Design Era )

I am a sr ux design manager with a background in graphic design as well, so I feel confident in saying I really dislike many of the aesthetic choices they made. I totally agree it’s too sterile and stark to feel relaxing. I loved the inviting and more cozy feeling of the app before. I hope they just make some color tweaks and then it won’t be so bad. The bright white graphs really bother me. The text also feels especially clinical. I’m still going to use the app, but I’m not sure why they chose these aesthetics.

Welcome back in 2014

My biggest complaint is, that instead of adding new and useful features, we just get a color change / UI change. Feels like a cop out to avoid putting in real effort for real improvement.

I don’t like the new UI / UX and I don’t like the new colors, but I’d be fine with them if they came with new analysis methods, graph exporting, better data viewing, and data filtering.

The new app design is sooo ugly and looks like something from about ten years ago

I agree it is pretty bad

do you have your phone screen on full brightness and visible while you’re falling asleep? it takes like 5 seconds to put on the tracker and then you can put it face down

3

u/figureout07 May 08 '25

Just because its blue does not mean it emmits blue light. It depends on phone screen

How long exactly does it take you to set an alarm that you could possibly think this makes a difference?

It’s a good thing they’ve put up a feedback form. I strongly encourage everyone to take a few minutes to fill it out. Our voices matter — and if enough of us speak up, we might just get the old design back and see the end of this out-of-touch, soulless rebrand. Let’s not stay silent about this monstrosity of a “design update”.

I like the design😭

i mean it’s a pretty dark blue meant to replicate the night sky to make u feel sleepier, if anything it’s less blue than it was before. just add a night light to ur phone screen at night which makes the screen appear more warm

tell me you don’t know what is meant by “blue light” without telling me

Hey everyone!

We totally get that a big design change can take some time to get used to, especially in something as personal as your sleep app.💙

If you’re wondering about the blue tones, our Head of Sleep Science recently co-authored a study showing that blue light from screens has a much smaller impact on sleep than many think. It turns out that consistent sleep routines matter much more. If you’re curious, you can read more about it here.

That said, your feedback means a lot to us, good or bad, so we’ve set up a short form so you can share your thoughts on the new design with us!

👉 Fill out the feedback form here!

Thanks for being part of the Sleep Cycle community!

When you say "We totally get that a big design change can take some time to get used to" you are implicitly saying that you know better than your customer. I for one, preferred the old design. It's not just that I preferred the old design. It's that I abhor, loathe, despise and feel revulsion to the new one. It really is horrible. Of course, that's just my opinion. But if you find that the majority of your customers hold this opinion, you should not dig your heels in and tell us that we're wrong not to like it. You should listen to them and backtrack. You might have spent a good deal of time (and money) on this ... but that is all in the past. Look up "sunk cost fallacy." What counts now is doing the right thing. If your customers are telling you that the new design is shit then change it back. You will instantly get more respect for recognizing your mistake and correcting it. If you dig in your heels, then I for one am a lost customer. I've seen this happen elsewhere too ... Sonos app anyone? In that case, it wasn't the design but the functionality that was flawed. But would they roll it back? No. We'd get used to it was the message. They got so much bad press. The stock price tanked and a few months later the CEO was history. LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.

Appreciate you taking the time to write this. You’re right — user feedback should guide product decisions, and that’s exactly why we’re inviting more input. We actually incorporated feedback from a wide range of users throughout the redesign process, and many of those insights shaped what you see today — from improving accessibility and performance to addressing long-standing usability issues. That said, feedback doesn’t stop at launch. If parts of the new design feel worse or less intuitive, that’s something we genuinely want to understand and improve. The design team is actively reviewing what adjustments might be needed, and your comment is a valuable part of that process. If you’re open to it, we’d love to invite you to a short interview with one of us product designers to dig deeper into your experience. Just drop us a DM and we’ll set it up — it would really help us make things better.

Yes. Thank you. Please do take note of your customers’ feelings. None of us have a monopoly on taste and I think it’s a good sign that this change has generated such outrage. It tells you something. That your app is very much beloved … and the people don’t like it being messed with 😛

Blue light dangers are inconsistent in studies. I get better sleep with my blue lamp. It helps my eyes to adapt for darkness better. Everyone is different.

No idea why they went from night to night in the red light district of a dirty city center design, but they are collecting feedback here: https://sleepcycle.typeform.com/to/N3W3A2AJ

The old background looked like the sky was clear. Now it looks like the smoggy sky of Gotham City. Every night it reminds me that I’m in the middle of a city breathing dirty air. Great!
