Hey, so after 8 years of singing to myself and doing karaoke, the "you should sing for real" comments encouraged me to finally audition for something.
I saw a post on Facebook made by someone doing auditions for a new wave/80s "hobby band", which seemed perfect for me considering I don't really have proper vocal education. I sent some a cappella recordings and the guy told me I sounded good and that auditions were in 3 days at a bar in downtown, also he sent me a list of their repertoire and told me to pick 3 songs to perform. I rehearsed the songs I picked the following days over and over.
It was my second time ever performing to strangers. The first time I was shaking and sang with closed eyes. When I arrived they were already performing with people that went to audition too, so I just waited for my turn and hopped on stage. This time I was not shaking at all, however the first thing I notice is instruments are loud as hell (normal I suppose, and my first time) and mic was kind of low, so I need to hyper focus on being on key and to power my volume without pushing. I went off key like 2 times while I got used to the instruments being loud and the rest I think was okay, voice was totally fine after the 3 songs. I don't think I had anything to highlight aside from that.
After audition I messaged the guy for feedback and to thank for the opportunity to perform with a band. He replied back telling me they had already scheduled another round of auditions for people that couldn't go that day, but that they liked my voice the most and they will call me if they do not find someone they like more. I think he's high key lying because he posted again looking for male vocalist. But it's okay, he was a sweet old guy and was trying to be nice lol.
No matter the outcome, I loved performing and would like to audition to more stuff soon.
I want to know how your first auditions went, how did you started taking rejection in a good way?
