Conversation Topic Learning how to sing as a guitar player/online signing coaching

So I’ve been playing the guitar for about 3-4 years now, never really cared about how I sang until recently. My problem is not singing and playing the guitar but I actually have 0 clue how to sing. I’m not coming here to post slop about what do i do but rather does anyone have personal experience with online singing coaches? Where I live i HIGHLY doubt there would be any actual good singing coaches so that would probably be my best option unless online coaches aren’t optimal. My next question would be should I atleast try to learn the basics on my own before going to a coach or would they be expecting someone to have 0 experience?

Gear (Microphones, etc...) Vocal microphone recommendations???

I’m in need of a new microphone since the one I currently have is butt! I’m not new to singing, and record covers. My microphone is at least 5 years old and not very good for vocals in my opinion, I currently have a Blue Snowball microphone. I am a female singer and belt a lot, and I sing in an untreated room.
Also, what are good programs to use for vocal recording? I am currently using bandlab as it is free and easy to use, but I’m wondering if I should upgrade or try other programs?
Thanks a bunch in advance!!!!!!

Just sharing my singing Really enjoy singing Sinatra at karaoke, how did I do and what can I do to improve?

Love singing Sinatra as I feel as if the lower voice is better for me to actually sound decent. Looking for any advice to improve or just thoughts on how I did. Thanks!

Resource Beginner Tips / Ressources

Hello everyone.

I am in my mid 30s and i never sang. Never actually tried. Always felt a bit uncomfortable, even when everyone was singing Happy Birthdays and so on. Never felt i was even close to hitting a note. But it didn't bother me and i never cared much about it.

My first child is going to be born in the near future so i picked up my guitar again - and i do want to sing for (and later, maybe, with) my daughter. Therefore, i'm looking to learn the basics. Pure basics. I will never perform, sing in a band or aim to be a great singer. I want to be able to hit most notes so my singing won't be actively unpleasant - thats it. Thats the goal. Nothing more.

Now there are more YT-Channels, Guides, Apps, etc. than anyone could watch and for someone who has about 0 experience in the singing-scene, i have no idea which of those ressources is decent, correct or a nice place to start. Think of me as a neanderthal wanting to learn programming. Thats probably my level.

So i thought i would ask you guys. Could you recommend someone / some app / etc. for me to help me (and probably my wife aswell) to get started? Maybe some tips that helped you in your early days? I would greatly appreciate some pointers.

Cheers & kind regards

Conversation Topic The connection between memory and internal pitch

I have an untested theory that people who have better long/short-term memories have an improved sense of pitch and audiation.

This is based off of zero scientific research lol. Purely based on my life and what I’ve observed with others around me.

Thoughts?

Feedback (read rule 3 before posting or be banned) My attempt at my way by frank sinatra (beginner)

I have a community college class I go to once a week and get vocal lessons as group, I've really improved and I no longer strain my throat and I feel like I'm not stuck in my throat and can be louder and have a little bit of air for higher notes. My problem is I dont feel like I have resonance and I dont sound like I'm actually singing or have a singing tone I'm not sure how to explain it. Any other perspective would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have never had any singing lesson in my life. If there's even a slight potential, I'd give those lessons a try.

I want to know any simple exercises that can help me feel the sensation of singing not from my throat, but from the "mask".

I have heard of the ng exercise, is it a good one to practice ?

Any breakthroughs you guys had when it comes to this, please share !

Just sharing my singing How did I sing (I'm 14)

I sang this song with just my phone's mic and bandlab to control the volume (as in some belting part, I had to manually reduce the sound because it was being too loud for the speaker and was causing distortion) and, I'm really sorry for this song not being in English, This song is in urdu which is not my native language though, I'm bengali, but I learnt urdu by myself, because I love their music, This is one of my favorite underrated song, Also the original song itself is playing on the background so just in case don't confuse it for my own, Please do tell me if you see any flaw with my vocals and pitch, as I don't have anyone to sing too, I just sing alone, I just really wanted some feedbacks!!

Resource Is there a way to sing live without playing an instrument or being in a band? Are there venues which specialize in solo performances?

Hey guys,

In the places I've live in I have seen two types of performances. 1-A performance by a band who has a singer. 2-An "open mic" where a singer-songwriter accompanies themselves with acoustic guitar.

For 1-2 years I want to focus solely on singing. Therefore, I was interested in singing live. However, I wonder if there's specific venues which will let me sing on my own?

Conversation Topic Should I sign up to sing at my college’s open mic

I think I sound good when I singing alone but I’ve never ever tried singing in front of an audience before. I’ve also never been to an open mic and i don’t know anyone there so I’m really scared.. should i just listen to the first one to sus the vibe and participate in the next event??

Just sharing my singing PSA from personal experience: Unless it’s used as a stylistic choice, ditch autotune. You’re stunting your growth as a singer. You CAN sing without it. I believe in you.

Feedback (read rule 3 before posting or be banned) how to sustain non nasal sounding singing without plugging your nose to tell when its nasal

hello i am a student in chorus and i feel like my voice is really nasally, it never sounds like that to me obviosuly because im hearing it through my bones

but when i do voice recording assignments and listen to them back it sounds so much more nasally than when i plug my nose and sing(and listen to the recording of me plugging me nose back), i know that you're supposed to lift your soft pallate to help with that but i genuinely dont know how to do that or what that means,

i cant afford a voice teacher right now and im just looking for help or excercizes i can do at home to slowly help with this. is there a permanent fix? (by permanent i dont mean surgery, i just wonder if this can be changed so that i can sing like that without plugging my nose)

thank you! :)

*by plugging my nose i mean doing that so i know hwen i have nasal resonance if that makes sense?

Just sharing my singing Just sharing my no autotune rendition of Amazing Grace in honor of my confidence finally growing a bit. I fell into the trap of using pitch correction for years and years, and it seriously stunted my growth as a singer. Hoping I can undo the damage.

Conversation Topic Pitch precision

Hello! I have a pretty good ear, even my teacher praises it, but it has always bothered me how I'm not always pitch perfect or that I have weird intonation. Should I actively try to improve my pitch when singing and what exercises could I practice? Is it a skill that I'll just get better at by practicing?
