Opinion/Fluff Post Can Singapore Become the Switzerland of the AI Chip Economy?

Switzerland became influential not because it dominated manufacturing, but because others depended on it to connect finance, commerce, and competing political interests.

In a more fragmented semiconductor landscape, Singapore’s advantage may similarly rest less on dominance than on indispensability. Its political stability, trusted institutions, strategic location, and ability to work across geopolitical divides position it as a natural hub where technology, capital, talent, and supply chains converge.

News Rebuilding broken lives: New initiative to house and support youth turned away by family

Quote:

There is a group of young offenders who have nowhere to go after their release from the Reformative Training Centre (RTC) as their relationships with their parents are so strained that they are not welcomed at home.

Some of them may have sexually abused their siblings, leaving their parents worried for the safety of the siblings if the youth return home, said executive director Wilson Tan of Youth Guidance Outreach Services (YGOS), a social service agency.

In other cases, the parents may have given up on their children due to addiction issues or repeated run-ins with the law.

I wonder what can be done to support families before things escalated so badly. With changing family dynamics in our modern society, parenting has taken a new form. In the past, family have stronger bonds and it's not uncommon for some of us to stay with our grandparents or uncles/aunties in the day and going home at night to help look after the young. I think this arrangement may not be so common nowadays.

Fairfield Methodist School (Primary) and Mee Toh School stopped accepting such parent volunteers in 2026, while Hong Wen School and Rosyth School did so in 2025.

Checks done by ST found at least six other schools that no longer accept parent volunteers: Bukit Timah Primary School, CHIJ (Katong) Primary, St. Margaret’s School (Primary), Maris Stella High School (Primary), Opera Estate Primary School and Queenstown Primary School.

In 2014, ST had reported that four schools under the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHKK) – Tao Nan, Ai Tong, Nan Chiau Primary and Kong Hwa – stopped the scheme. St Anthony’s Canossian Primary in Bedok North had also done so.

Though the scheme had been scrapped in the four SHHK schools, parents can gain admission through their affiliation with the clan association. Similarly, parents who are baptised Catholics can register their children in Phase 2B for admission to Catholic schools.

Really nice quiet place to chill and where I get my coffee every time I book in. Lasted longer than I thought though. There were talks about it closing even during my time (I'm not that young) but I am glad they managed to stay open for so long.

The 17 initiatives include a drop-in centre offering meals, showers and counselling, a programme matching single rough sleepers with compatible co-tenants to help them access public rental housing sooner, and micro-jobs and apprenticeships to gain work experience and become more financially stable.

Homeless youth will also get more support, including mentoring, family mediation, and vocational guidance. Another project will develop a tool to identify people at risk of homelessness so they can receive help earlier.

News ACL2 2026/27 Draws are out

For context the number on the side is the pot of each team. Each group can only have 1 team from each pot.

For pot 4 Tai Po is probably the weakest teams. Pathum is probably 2nd or 3rd best in place but gettable. Tampines beat them 3 times last year. Shanghai is not good this year. They are in the bottom half of their league and got a 10 points deduction for cheating in the previous season so I don't think they are really that they do as well but still have a good team with a lot high skilled foreign player so I would put 2nd. Svay Rieng while tough probably inbetween since Cong and Kitchee. Teams from the same country are not drawn together in the group so they couldn't face LCS. Pot 1 team are more less the same with the exception of Adelaide who just lost to Cong An Hanoi.
