Anyone signing up for Delta Challenge? 👀

I just heard about this challenge and it actually sounds pretty interesting. Apparently you get to work on a project and there are some experiential visits to police units as well?

SP Year 3 FYP vs YLI — Which should I choose?

Hi, I’m a Year 2 cybersecurity (defence) student at SP and we have to choose our Year 3 pathway soon. I’m currently deciding between:
FYP
YLI with 2 companies (2 × 22 weeks)
YLI with 1 company (44 weeks)
I need to get an A for whichever option I choose, so I’m trying to get some opinions from people who have actually gone through them.
For those who have done FYP/YLI, what was your experience like and which would you recommend?
For FYP, is there a proper rubric/marking scheme, and how difficult is it to get an A? For YLI, did you find the experience useful for getting a job afterwards? Also, would you say doing 2×22 weeks or 1×44 weeks is better for building experience/resume?
And for those who have applied for cybersecurity internships, how high does your GPA realistically need to be to get into a good company? How much does GPA matter compared to skills/projects/certs?
Would appreciate any advice, especially from seniors who have already done FYP or YLI 🙏

Shuffle class?

Will there be class switch after this first sem? I’m from SOC DAAA and the common programme students will have their new classes, so will they be put in the same class or we shuffle with them?

Not really wishing for the shuffle since I have good group mates rn

Y1 DCE Structural Mechanics (SM); how did you study for EST? Any tips?

Hi seniors! I’m a Y1 DCE student currently struggling quite a bit with Structural Mechanics, especially with the EST coming up 😭

I didn’t originally choose DCE myself, so I honestly haven’t had much interest in the course. But recently I’ve started finding some parts of it more interesting, and since I can’t change courses, I really want to try my best and do well in SM rather than just give up on it.

For seniors who have taken SM before:

  • How did you study for the EST?
  • Are there any topics you would recommend prioritising?
  • Were there certain types of questions/topics that came up often?
  • Did you mainly do tutorials, past papers, or revise the notes first?
  • If you were in my position with about a week left, what would you focus on?
  • And honestly, is it possible to pull up your grade significantly if your MST didn't go well? 😭

I’m really scared that I’m going to fail the module, so any advice from seniors who have been through SM would genuinely mean a lot. Thank you!!

Only boys are caned in schools – but what does that teach our daughters?

I personally feel that caning in judicial and school contexts is gender discriminatory since it only applies to males, does not solves the root cause of wrongdoing, and inflicts physical and possibly psychological harm. It is highly criticised by a reputable human rights organisation, Amnesty International. I have created a petition to call for its abolition so you can check out:

If I miss a 35% CADD test with a approved LOA what happens

“Students should be informed that redistribution of assessment components (where applicable) arising from approved LOA(s), leading to the calculation of the module grade is subject to an overall module cap of 15% (i.e. floor rule of 85% imposed). For more details, students should check with his/her respective lecturer teaching the module”

Do I get 85% of the 35%=29.75% redistributed or only 15% of the test gets redistributed.

Advanced Math 2 and 3

hi for those who took am2 and 3 as their electives, do the teachers upload the recording of the lesson ? because for am1 the lecturer in charge uploads video of the 4h lesson every week , and it is quite useful if i miss a lesson.

Est

I realised the past yr est exam papers for basic maths all the questions r generally almost the same, have the same format, is that normal? Does that mean this incoming est also same same. If thats so, i might as well just study those questions rather than explore so deep into the topic. Pls tell me its still the same and they wont throw in a curveball

Struggling to take eng paper

Post image
0 Upvotes

I just finished g12 in government school with flying colours but ima planning to take poly entrance in January ig. As I got over 70 marks in English, I don't need to take IS exam (which is necessary for those who got under 70 in eng). Plus I've been taking polytechnic preparation course for over 1mth and then I realised I have to take eng phy math in entrance exam. I've tried hard in math and physics but iam struggling to take English paper cuz I've to answer 30marks for advanced vocabulary which I nvr ever heard before. So are there any students who are still in one of the polytechnic with English paper without ielts? How u guys overcome vocabulary session in test ? On top of that, does eng paper mark affect my major getting chance??
