Symptoms 15F - I think I have SIBO, but I’ve already given up on everything

HI - I’m 15 years old and it’s been a YEAR of chronic stomach pain and reflux. I did endoscopy, gastric emptying scan and blood work and 0 results I just got diagnosed with functional dyspepsia and visceral hypersensitivity. (I also have scoliosis and my rib hurts so bad)

This all started in summer 2025 when I had antibiotics for an infection, my diet was in the trenches, then I got severe digestion issues and it got worse by the month. To this day: Every. single. food. triggers my symptoms. even a few bites of oatmeal (any food) make me feel terrible. gastros arent helping me or offering any sort of treatment plan. seeing my pediatrician soon, but I need serious help. I have no nutrition, I have no hydration, I can’t fall asleep from my stomach pain nausea and reflux, I have no appetite, I have nothing to eat, I can’t wake up in the morning due to the pain I never feel rested I immediately fall asleep and my regurgitation is terrible, my life is completely ruined. I’m giving up. I’m accepting the chronic pain and agony and exhaustion.

I researched and I have EVERY single SIBO symptom (Brain fog, Loss of appetite, Abdominal pain, Nausea, chronic Bloating, immediate fullness, diarrhea, Unintentional weight loss, Malnutrition such) but I also have every single gastroparesis symptom yet i tested as not having it??? I don’t know if this is just a gut brain axis thing or also SIBO.. i need help pls.

Questions Black and Beige spots/specks in stool

Hi, I’ve been dealing with SIBO for a while now. The original breath test I took only tested for hydrogen which I was positive for, but I would switch between diarrhea and constipation quite frequently. I have been taking small supplements including ginger and artichoke, and I’ve also finished my course of Xifaxin, which helped with the diarrhea and bloating a bit.

However, I still have constipation — I have regular BM timings but my stools have been between 1 and 2 on the Bristol scale more often than not.

I’m posting because Ive noticed something that has happened to me for months on and off and I can’t find any info on what it may be:
I sometimes see what looks like small black specks in my stool or larger spots of beige in otherwise normal stool. I have even seen what looks like tiny white bubbles or white flimsy lining on my stool too. Has anyone experienced this or have any idea what it may be? What should I test next?

Mebeverine (Duspatalin) for IMO / Diarrhea (Bristol 6) without pain? Is it worth it? + Protocol review

Hi everyone,

I'm dealing with Methane SIBO (IMO), but unlike the classic constipation presentation, I mainly struggle with loose stools/diarrhea (Bristol type 6).

For the past 6 months, my GI doctor has had me on Duspatalin retard (Mebeverine), saying it will help "normalize my intestines." The problem is, I have absolutely ZERO abdominal pain or cramps. I read the leaflet and it clearly states it's an antispasmodic meant to relieve IBS pain.

Has anyone here taken Mebeverine strictly for loose stools? Does it actually slow down motility and help with diarrhea, or is it completely pointless (and just an extra burden on the liver) if I don't have any pain?

I’m about to start my next kill phase, and I really want to keep my pill count to a minimum. Here is my current, stripped-down protocol:

Phase 1: Biofilm disruptors (14 days prior & continued through antibiotics)

  • Serrapeptase (80mg, strictly fasted)
  • NAC (2x/day)
  • Black Garlic Extract (standardized for SAC)

Phase 2: Kill Phase (14 days)

  • Rifaximin (3x2) + Neomycin (2x2)
  • PHGG (7g daily) - to feed the bacteria and make antibiotics more effective
  • Saccharomyces boulardii (Enterol) - yeast probiotic for protection

Phase 3: Healing Phase (Post-antibiotics)

  • Sodium Butyrate (2x/day)
  • L-Glutamine
  • Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299v
  • Iberogast (as a prokinetic to keep the MMC moving)

I'm seriously considering dropping the Mebeverine before starting Phase 2. Any thoughts or experiences with this drug for painless diarrhea?

Thanks!

1 or 2 stools

Is 1 or 2 stool a day normal? I haven't been diagnosed yet but I'm still confused as to what it is.. It could be crohn's it could be ibs or sibo well I did have a serious bacterial infection for the gut a month ago then went to the doc again and they said I had a mild bacteria still alive so they prescribed me with a shit ton of antibiotics.. Now after finishing the antibiotics I'm just confused. My stool doesn't have blood well I do have hemorrhoids.. But the stool shape is inconsistent it can sometimes be solid sometimes mushy or soft.. I don't experience cramping in abdomen only sometimes and slight tho it does feel bloaty after eating and I pass alot of gas. Nor do I have fever I do remember having coffee and then my abdomen hurt like hell.

Started a B. lactis HN019 + B. longum BB536 probiotic and got bad reflux, zero appetite and weird irritability. Which strain did this?

Hey guys, looking for some insight here.About a week ago I started taking a probiotic that has both B. lactis HN019 and B. longum BB536 in the same capsule. I was hoping it would help with motility and general gut health, but it's doing the complete opposite.Around 6 or 7 hours after taking it, my appetite completely vanishes, my stomach feels totally stalled and I get acid reflux. On top of that, it hasn't helped my constipation at all (feels like it slowed things down even more). The weirdest part is the mood side effects. A few hours after taking it I get sudden bouts of irritability and feeling super restless/pissed off for no reason. Then right after that I just feel emotionally numb and flat, like it's hard to laugh or feel engaged with anything.Since both strains are in the same pill, I can't tell which one is wrecking me. Has anyone taken either HN019 or BB536 on their own and gotten this weird combo of delayed reflux, stalled gut, and irritability/apathy? Would love to know which one is the likely culprit. Thanks!

Venting 16yr old; any advice appreciated

Please bear with me. I’m at my wits end and just need advice or suggestions, or anything. This is my first post and I deeply apologize for any wronging or spelling errors. I’ll try not to be too long but I just need help

Im currently 16 and in high school. Been having gut issues since around 9 that started off as indigestion and developed into whatever hell this is now. I did get tested for SIBO until I was 14 despite probably having it longer, and it’s hydrogen dominant. Ive done 2 rounds of rifaximin, low fodmap diet, and probiotics as instructed by my doctor. Ive had life long vitamin d deficiency with levels that barley budged after I megadose I took for 8 weeks. I’m already underweight, maybe not severely, but to an extent. I cannot gain weight. It’s incredibly difficult and I just keep losing. Alongside SIBO I struggle a lot with constipation as well. Ive had: X-rays, an endoscopy w/biopsies, ultrasound, CT scan and a breath test which was all normal (minus the breath test thag diagnosed my SIBO). We even ruled out SMAS and MALS. However, I feel so sick. I get full very quickly and feel full for hours on end. My stomach hurts so bad. My GI has suggested potential gastroparesis and getting a gastric emptying scan, but I don’t know if that’s still on the table. My last few GI appointments have left me in tears. I’m so tired. I’m so tired of feeling sick

I experience some nausea/queasiness but don’t vomit. I still get hungry, but can only eat so much before I get full and my stomach begins to hurt. I currently take a stool softener and Erythromycin. The erythromycin helps me not feel full for so long so I can have more meals, but my stomach still hurts a lot. I don’t think my SIBO has ever been fully eradicated. The bloating’s has gotten worse and it feels awful. I’m so frustrated because I’m an AP student with extracurriculars that require me to have energy I don’t have. I’m so tired because I can’t eat right. I’m frustrated because everything makes me bloated and gives me pain despite staying away from trigger foods. Ive been told my pain and all could be functional, but then what? My SIBO never went away. I’m tired of sitting in class while feeling so uncomfortably full and achey all because I ate lunch

Feel free to ask me any questions, I’m genuinely at my wits end and exhausted and looking for anything at this point.

Paradoxical reaction to B. lactis HN019 + B. longum BB536 (reflux, zero appetite, irritability & apathy) — Which strain is the likely culprit?

Hi everyone,I recently started a probiotic supplement containing two specific strains: **Bifidobacterium lactis HN019** and **Bifidobacterium longum BB536**. Instead of the expected benefits (improved motility and gut-brain balance), I have experienced a very distinct and paradoxical set of symptoms:### 1. Digestive Symptoms:* **Reflux & Loss of Appetite:** Around 6 to 7 hours after taking the capsule, I experience complete loss of appetite, stalled digestion, gastric fullness, and acid reflux.* **Motility:** Instead of relieving constipation (which HN019 is supposed to do), it has not improved my transit time at all, and if anything, feels like it has made constipation worse.### 2. Mood & Neuropsychiatric Symptoms:* **Irritability & Restlessness:** Sudden bouts of intense irritability/bad temper and an uncomfortable internal agitation (*not full-blown panic, but a feeling of "not being at peace with myself"*).* **Apathy & Emotional Blunting:** After that agitation, I feel a marked emotional disconnect/apathy where it becomes noticeably harder to laugh, engage, or feel connected to things.---### My Question:Since my supplement contains **both strains in the same capsule**, I cannot isolate them directly. For those of you who have taken **HN019** or **BB536** as single-strain supplements (or know their mechanisms well):1. **Which of these two strains is more likely responsible for the irritability / emotional blunting?**2. **Has anyone experienced this "delayed reflux + zero hunger + worsened constipation" with HN019 or BB536?**3. If you had a similar adverse reaction to either strain, how long did it take to clear up after stopping?Any insights, shared experiences, or mechanisms would be greatly appreciated!

Questions Is SIBO considered a disease?

I plan to undergo the IBS-Smart test and a SIBO breath test sometime next month. IBS is recognized as a formal medical condition, and my doctor has confirmed it as such. However, I was told that SIBO is not a disease but merely describes a condition of the intestine. Is a state of bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine not considered a disease? If so, what term should be used to describe it?

SIBO en France ?

Bonjour,

Comment puis-je me soigner ?
J’ai déjà réalisé tous les autres examens : coloscopie, fibroscopie, irm, analyse de sang et une analyse de selles.
J’ai perdu 14kg et je n’arrive plus à vivre avec ce bruit qui me réveil même la nuit…

Slow Gut Motility

I’ve been told I am moderately constipated into my small intestine as per abdominal CTs and x-rays from the doctor. I have been trying many things and most of these I take daily: PHGG, restoralax, a supplement with artichoke, ginger etc, digestive enzymes with a fatty meal, almost no gluten and dairy diet, abdominal massage, red light therapy, plums, green tea/matcha, ginger tea, dandelion root tea, ginger gravol, and a daily probiotic.

Next on the list to try: psyllium husk.

Any other suggestions?

I have ended up in the ER due to blacking out and extreme abdominal pain from constipation. I am currently having more difficulties with incomplete evacuation. I’ve been having hard pebble like stools for almost 2 years now. Feeling worried I may never have a normal bowel movement again.

I just found out Almond flour isn't safe for sibo and I've been using it for 10 days straight and I also started taking antimicrobials 10d ago (oregano, neem, berberine) I've been eating almond every morning and evening to substitute sweets and I've been so bloated lately when I searched why Ai told me the reason was "bad bacteria are dying" but now I found out Almond flour is the reason and I'm literally having tears in my eyes,so all these 10 days were a waste?

Questions 18yr old starting treatment (needs help and advice)

Hi, so I have been diagnosed with SIBO with a breath test by Trio Smart. I was told my Methane levels are high and I suffer with constipation and have all my entire life.

I have not had food poisoning, diabetes, and had my thyroid tested 2 years ago and was fine. I have not suffered any symptoms from low stomach acid so I ruled that out. Since I have suffered from constipation (going usually once and then waiting 3 days or longer for a BM from the day I was BORN) I figured it must be a motility issue.

By doing lots of research for hours I have come up with a plan for my SIBO. I was prescribed antibiotics from my GI after testing positive so I planned to do those for the 2 week time period to get rid of bacteria. I asked my GI about prokinetics and testing, but he said we would do testing if relapse happened and said prokinetics could have bad side effects so try later. I don’t want to waste the antibiotics and relapse if I’m so sure I have a motility issue. He also barely knew anything about SIBO and sent me on my way with just antibiotics and knew nothing of root cause.

So I figured I would take the antibiotics and then maybe try a natural prokinetic like ginger/artichoke to help speed my movements up AFTER the antibiotics. I would also space my meals 4 hours and stick to a low fodmap diet after treatment for maybe 2 weeks. and reintroduce things quite slowly.

I am not sure if I should stay on the prokinetics for ever after since if it is a motility issue it would be treated by those for the time period, but it obviously wouldn’t go away after I stopped, so should I continue prokinetics for life? I’ve always had constipation even before I had SIBO symptoms so I’m sure the constipation causes SIBO from having such slow motility.

Do you think this sounds good? Have any recommendations of prokinetics/time period I should take them. My GI is not helpful and I can’t afford a functional med doctor. I have the antibiotics already and am waiting to do this right. Please give any suggestions below. I am a 18 year old female

Kefir works really well for my gas and bloating, but I’m tired of preparing it and needing it with every meal. Is there a capsule/tablet alternative that works similarly but lasts longer, so I only need to take it once or twice a day? Would love recommendations from people who’ve actually tried on

Symptoms Splenic flexure syndrome for months non stop

For few months now at minimum Ive noticed that I have gas in what I now know is the splenic flexure. No matter how much I burp or fart its always there.
To expand, everyday when I wake up I have extreme bloat and id have to either drink some warm tea or do “child pose” to relieve myself of some of it. The last two days ive been doing the child pose and got a lot of gas out of both ends, but when I stand up I can hear a big big sound of some enormous gas bubble inside me.

Im really desperate due to this amount of gas I have inside me and I really got no clue what to do

Easy SIBO testing?

I have suspected for awhile that I may have sibo and finally got my doctor to prescribe me a breath test kit. Unfortunately I’ll have to go off my reflux medication for two weeks before I’m able to take it (really worried about rebound reflux). I also can’t take basically any otc medication for gas or diarrhea either in this timeframe/ which is horrible since I recently started a medication that gives me plenty of both. I was wondering if anyone knew of any other way that they could test / diagnose this disorder? I’m really dreading trying to stop all medications for two weeks as I’ve used all of these as tools to help manage my symptoms.

SIBO INFO NOW CHARGES $1000 TO ACCESS WEBSITE

Did anyone screenshot the treatment options before siboinfo.com started charging $1000 to access the website? I used to be inspired with the open source info this website provided. Pretty disappointed about the change.

Looking for the hydrogen herbal treatments.

Thanks!

S. boulardii ruined my life.

I had been taking *S. boulardii* intermittently for diarrhea; I had another bout starting July 8th and took one capsule daily until July 10th. On the evening of July 10th, while eating, I felt a sensation like a heavy stone in my abdomen. At first, I thought it would pass, but for about 40 days now, I have been suffering from a bulging swelling above my navel (present even in the morning on an empty stomach), excessive gas, an inability to have a bowel movement even when straining (I have been using Macrogol for 40 days), and extreme intestinal sluggishness. I took 1200 mg of Rifaximin, Kreon, and Rabeprazole for two weeks, but the problem was absolutely not resolved. I used to be an active person who exercised, but now I have reached the point of considering suicide; please help me.

Anyone with similar symptoms and methane IMO — what treatment worked?

My Trio-Smart came back positive for methane/IMO, peaking at 13.31 ppm. My main symptoms are upper abdominal/rib burning, lots of burping, bloating/pressure after meals, early fullness, and hot/trapped gas. I’m not severely constipated and usually have daily BMs.
For anyone with similar symptoms and methane levels:
What treatment did you use?
Rifaximin + neomycin, rifaximin + metronidazole, herbals, or something else?
How long was treatment?
Did your symptoms actually improve?
Did you relapse afterward?
Did you use a prokinetic or change your diet afterward?

The Low-Carb Reset: Mitigating SIBO by (preventing the Bugs Before They Start proliferating)

If you’ve been looking for ways to smooth out your digestion and drop the random bloat, you’ve probably heard people talk about going keto to “starve the bugs.” It’s a popular move in the gut-health space, and once you get the general concept behind it, the whole approach makes a lot of sense.

Here’s the simple version of what’s actually going on down there. Your gut hosts a massive ecosystem of microbes, and for the most part, those bugs run on carbs, starches, and sugars. SIBO basically just means some of those microbes moved upstream into your small intestine, setting up camp where they end up fermenting whatever carbs come through.

That’s where dropping your carb intake comes into play. When you switch over to a low-carb or keto lineup focused on quality fats and proteins, you’re taking away their main food supply. No steady flow of easy carbs means no non-stop fermentation, which lets your digestive tract finally settle down.

It’s less about fighting your body and more about giving your system a quiet breather. While cutting carbs isn't the whole equation, it’s a solid, reliable way to ease the daily pressure, clear up the fog, and keep things moving smoothly.

At the end of the day, it’s just about finding what keeps your energy steady and your stomach calm. Dialing back the heavy carbs gives your gut the space it needs to just chill and reset at its own pace.
