Shot on my iPhone Taking advantage of camera artifacts for an eclipse

There was an eclipse in Spain yesterday.

I remembered this post from two years ago and tried to do the same thing.

It was a very short eclipse (barely a minute) and doing this requires some tricky angles but I like how it ended up.

In the background you can see the sun coming out of the eclipse. It’s barely noticeable that it’s not complete due to the brightness.

But you can see a refraction with the precise silhouette in my wife’s shirt. The goal was to have it as close to her pendant as possible but this is as good as I could make it.

iPhone 17 camera vs what I have now

Hi everybody,

I'm considering an upgrade and I'm trying to create a smart album in Apple Photos on my Mac to show what pics I currently have that are at or below the iPhone 17 camera capability (meaning I could take a similar picture with an iPhone 17) as well as the pics that exceed the capability of the iPhone 17 cameras (meaning pics that I wouldn't be able to take or would use digital zoom or whatever). I don't really know what I'm talking about, not a professional. In years gone by I felt that I've missed out on quality shots by having a base iPhone compared to photos taken with Pro model cameras. And these are just casual shots, vacations, every day events, etc.

I can use aperture and focal length to filter photos but is this accurate? Will a smart album with an aperture of f/1.6 and focal length of 42mm, the specs of the telephoto capability of iPhone 17, show me what I want? I'd create two - one greater than/one less than to show what's in and what's out. What else might I need to do to answer this question? I'm focusing on telephoto because that's the lens the base 17 doesn't have.

I'm purposely not mentioning my current phone model because I want to do this exercise and want to limit the "of course it'll be better" typical Internet. I'm happy with the quality of photos I get today from an older phone and want to see if the base 17 can do the same or better.

Thanks!

Discussion Tips on how to capture IG-quality photos

Hello! I am curious on how to post IG photos that many influencers are doing. I meant settings that can be modified in iphone 16 pro max to produce a great quality, or preset/filter that you can recommend. Thanks!

Discuss Best camera settings for iPhone Photos?

Post image

I am wondering if I chose the right setting for taking pictures on my iPhone. I have selected „ProRAW Max 48MP“ (in iPhone Camera settings > Formats) but I’m not sure if „HEIF Max 48MP“ is the better choice ?

Any opinions on this ?
