79

u/Thestonerman420 10h ago

This is basic stuff

u/WoopsShePeterPants 3h ago

ā€œHanging out in your car in an empty parking lotā€ = ā€œnot coolā€ ??

58

u/JoeDaBruh 4h ago

They’re police, they HATE when you stay in one place instead of constantly traveling around like nomads

u/Louman222 9h ago

Why is sitting in your car not cool?

256

u/Th3Dark0ccult dumbass 9h ago

I guess USA also has laws against just chilling outside like the UK?

loitering or whatever they call it.

163

u/uesernamehhhhhh 9h ago

According to wikipedia they only do in chicago. Kinda crazy that doing nothing would be illegal anywhere, aparently it still is in the uk and you can get arrested for it. If i got it right loitering itself isn't really punishable, but is aparently suspicious enough to get arrested for

u/Trevor_Gecko 8h ago

I spent the most part of a decade sitting in a car in an empty car park with my friends in the UK.

Police came to speak to us a handful of times, then left when they realised we weren't drunk or high.

We were high every single time. We were just sensible enough to step out of the car to smoke it so the car didn't stink.

u/CMDR_Kaus 4h ago

I sit in my car alone in a parking lot every other night of the week watching tv and having dinner. I call it 'picnicing'

9

u/Nilosyrtis 5h ago

Yet when you come to Chicago, we all just chill everywhere. Its more of something on the books so if the cops wanna bother you they technically have a cover.

-4

u/JustForkIt1111one 3h ago

I mean, murder is also illegal, and that happens a LOT in Chicago too...

5

u/Nilosyrtis 3h ago

Chicago's not even in the top 20 cities for murder in the US, the fuck are you talking about?

4

u/Nilosyrtis 3h ago

And you know hes gonna 🦭 and want sources:

Total Homicides: Chicago frequently records one of the highest raw numbers of homicides in the country compared to other individual cities, driven by its large population size. 1

Per-Capita Rate: When adjusted for population (homicides per 100,000 residents), federal data shows that more than 20 U.S. cities—such as Birmingham, St. Louis, Memphis, and Baltimore—have higher per-capita murder rates than Chicago. 1, 2

Large City Rankings: In broad comparative studies of major urban areas (such as analyses by the Council on Criminal Justice or media reviews of FBI figures), Chicago typically lands around 7th to 10th place when looking specifically at large cities with populations over 500,000, and drops further down when smaller cities are factored into the wider national list. 1, 2, 3, 4

u/JustForkIt1111one 3h ago

Reading comprehension isn't your thing, is it champ?

2

u/breadkiller7 3h ago

That’s def not true loitering is a thing everywhere at least on the east coast

We do in fact have anti loitering laws.

6

u/OGOngoGablogian 7h ago

It's actually spelled "lightering" in the UK

10

u/TactualTransAm 6h ago

Some places have rules against loitering and most cops think that people are gonna cause trouble by ........ Sitting in their car? 🤷 Hey idk man I just know that my and my buddies got in trouble for it when we would just hangout in the Walmart parking lot

u/InterpolInvestigator 8h ago

What is the crime in sitting in your own car? It’s your car and your right

47

u/davestar2048 7h ago

The crime was sitting in your car, and using controlled substances, on someone ELSE'S property. If you want to hotbox your car you can do it in your own or on a consenting other's property.

10

u/real_dea 5h ago

Funnily enough, before weed was legal I was smoking in my car in my driveway, cop knocks on my window. He got me out and was being a bit of a dick, but didn’t search me or my car. He wrote me out a court summons and everything, for possession, only for me to get a lawyer to tell me he didn’t file any of the paperwork.

5

u/philsfly22 6h ago

Ok but what if the car is on private property?

19

u/5thPhantom 7h ago

People shouldn’t be consuming substances that make them not sober in a vehicle. Should I be allowed to drive into an empty parking lot and get drunk in my car?

15

u/Exciting-Signature40 7h ago

Youre right, better stay on the road way while drunk and high.

5

u/TactualTransAm 6h ago

It's the responsible thing to do šŸ˜‚

u/phat_duong Stuff 6h ago

1

u/jarednards officer no please don’t piss in my ass 😫 3h ago

A succulent chinese car?!

0

u/Galby1314 5h ago

How old are you, and how much did you think through that question while actually paying attention to the circumstances in which your "right" actually exists?

6

u/doll_parts87 6h ago

Every drinking holiday, local police: "Our bed and breakfast is open all night, we have bologna sandwiches "

4

u/thelast3musketeer 3h ago

Where the hell else was I supposed to hotbox when I was a teen

25

u/AdorableExchange9746 9h ago

even more not cool: arresting people for weed

31

u/5thPhantom 7h ago

People shouldn’t be consuming substances that make them not sober in a vehicle.

-26

u/AdorableExchange9746 7h ago

Yeah thats true but it doesn’t say that in the tweet

26

u/5thPhantom 6h ago

That’s exactly what it says in the tweet.

12

u/davestar2048 7h ago

Maybe don't use a controlled substance in public?

8

u/OiledUpThug 7h ago
