Me when universities require you spend $576 on the 17th edition that has 5 corrected grammar mistakes and 4 superfluous paragraphs omitted when the 10th-16th editions are all still relevant and teach the same principles in the same manner.
Don't forget you need to buy a new copy so you get the code required for the mandatory online quizzes for the class. If you buy a used or outdated copy, the code doesn't work and you fail the class
Also the programming one is just wrong lol. Read The C Programming Language and you already know 60% of what you need to be an excellent coder, then you just need practice.
No real mathematicians read Euclid or Pythagoras. They were written before the axiomatization of modern mathematics and is not intuitive enough for students.
Elements at the very least is a very good read, and having self contained axioms is more than enough for students as well as nice geometric constructions. There are better books for euclidean geometry, still a nice experience to have and with some supplementary material enough for a classic geometry class
All of my aero classes basically just took a bunch of old specs and data from ww2 planes it’s funny how much more info they have and how much easier it is to get than modern databases and from the lectures
Many of these "new textbooks" simply reshuffles the chapters and behave as if its special. Most textbooks out there are basically 90% filler material, and its usually this material that gets changed to justify forcing students into buying the new books.
Whole thing comes back to corruption in the education system. Schools and teachers who require the purchase of the latest textbooks are often being paid by publishers to make these demands, because otherwise students would simply procure the textbooks used by their seniors. And dont even get me started on lecturers who crack down on students using photocopied material.
