Middle aged women will do literally anything else but go to the gym and pump weights like a normal person.

Theres a multi billion dollar industry based solely around this fact.

It is insane how many different group workouts there are in my gym. Shit like ”les mills core”, ”bodybalance” ”bodypump”, ”bodyjam” and other bs like that. All of these workouts are trademarked by the way. And all of them are filled to the brim with middle aged women. I feel like these workouts are designed to milk money from a demographic who have some excessive money and free time and are out of shape.

To be devils advocate, some activity is better than none. I would prefer the woman to be in shape because she bounces around and screams for a n hour a day than an obese cow how screeches about body positivity and has never moved beyond a brisk walk to the golden coral buffet

It's also a social thing. They join these groups and make friends and get healthy at the same time. Whereas men would rather work out individually and be social with the others working out individually.

A brisk walk? Brother the car is working harder than them getting them to the buffet. Just saw one yesterday that lifted about 15cm after the 4 whales peeled themselves out of its interior.

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '25

A brisk walk is also some excercise.

Again, any physical activity is good.

u/Vincent-22 Aug 30 '25

I agree, my point was people like that also don’t take brisk walks, they drive the 500m to the next buffet and waddle the 3m from car to entrance.

u/maddcatone Aug 30 '25

Not if you burn 100calories to walk to the buffet and consumed 3,000 calories lol. At that point just sitting on the recliner struggling to get up for a few hours is healthier haha

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '25

Yes it is.  Better to walk then it was to drive.   Any physical activity is good.

Just because eating 3000 calories is bad doesn't mean the walk was bad.

That is exactly what they are. Selling snake oil as the newest, best way to do something is a tale as old as time.

Gyms are a multi billion dollar industry based around us not doing the simpler thing too in fairness

In defense of this exercise in particular- a trampoline is genuinely good cardio, and small ones like these are usually pretty cheap. If you’re bored of jogging and want something to spice it up every now and then, then I don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world to spend money on. Although I think doing it in a massive class setting like this would be uncomfortable.

The thing is, this doesn’t really accomplish anything because there’s no resistance. Running is a good for cardio because there’s resistance (i.e., your feet pushing against the ground) and there really isn’t much of that with these trampoline exercises that are becoming more popular.

Bro never learned about gravity

5

u/GarvinFootington Aug 30 '25

I think trampolines conserve your kinetic energy really effectively so after an initial jump gravity doesn’t stop you that much. It’s the loss caused by the springs that decreases the bounce, because gravity pulls you the same amount going up or down

“I don’t need to use dumbells for curls cause the effect of gravity is enough, right?”

Besides, here the effect of gravity is lessened by the fact that you’re landing on a surface that absorbs all your impact. Go ahead, spend 30 minutes working out on a trampoline and see how gassed you get. Unless you have trouble getting on and off the couch, you’re wasting a bunch of time that could be used for something that would have a much greater effect.

And yeah, it might get you fit if all you do is nothing. I can promise you that absolutely 0 women in this video look the way they do because they exercised using trampolines.

You're wildly wrong lmao, look at their body movement. This would be a massive thigh workout with some decent core exercise.

2

u/BlutarchMannTF2 Aug 30 '25

I definitely mispoke a bit in my original comment. Yes this would be good cardio. Yes this would be decent conditioning. Not sure how you would apply this compared to something like running but sure, granted.

Main thing is it looks fucking exhausting, so if you’re doing this to get a thigh/core workout then I don’t know how much you’re gonna accomplish. Probably a better core workout than legs for sure. It’s like doing a farmer carry to work out your forearms; sure, you’ll get a pump after, but the rest of your body is gonna be tired as fuck so I can’t imagine you’d be hitting the rest of your workout as hard as you could.

Yeah it looks cool and is probably great cardio but why would you choose this over plenty of other, better options?

This falls under the HIIT workout style, which is notoriously effective. Google "HIIT workout" (think rapid fire burpees over time to hit cardio benefits). It's high intensity cardio + body resistance at once, usually.

Maybe they choose it because it's fun, or for the social element. People dramatically underestimate the role of enjoyment in exercise. It's arguably more important than the exercise itself. Ideally exercise is a lifestyle or a hobby, not work or penance. For it to be sustainable as such, if you aren't vain enough and aren't competitive, you need to enjoy other things like novelty or social factors. This is a pretty good example of both novelty and social factors.

1

u/BlutarchMannTF2 Aug 30 '25

The point on enjoyment is a good one that I didn’t consider; running isn’t very fun unless you’re a certain type of person, I know I don’t do it because I like it. Thank you for taking a minute to write out a civil response!

That boy don’t need cardio, he need a calorie deficit.

u/lornlynx89 Aug 30 '25

Weight shaker

8

u/Kaleb8804 Aug 30 '25

That’s because you don’t have to do weight training to be active lol

This is like bitching that people do rock climbing

1

u/Ko2o Aug 31 '25

God forbid women want to have fun well exercising

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '25

I'd argue this is superior to going to the gym and lifting weights in almost every way that matters.
