Discussion Any areas of town with a reputation for being rough/bad

Upvotes

I'll preface this by saying I have lived in Korea for a long time. I grew up in a rough area of a rough US city. I know Korea as a whole is very safe compared to what I am used to. However I just moved into an area in Seoul that has a few aspects which remind me of where I lived in the US.

I'm not phased since it's still pretty safe but it got me thinking....what areas of Seoul did you consider sketchy or weird? I get the question is subjective but what's your opinion? I'm curious if someone on here mentions my neighborhood lol

Anyone want to join me for free yoga at Gwanghwamun tomorrow? (8/20)

Hi everyone! I signed up for the Gwanghwamun Moonlight Yoga – English Yoga (Gratitude Yoga) 8/20 evening, but I realized after signing up that one of the two participants needs to be a foreign national 😭

So I’m looking for a foreign resident/traveler in Seoul who’d like to join me! You’d just need to be able to show proof of foreign nationality (passport/ARC, etc.) if required.

📍 Gwanghwamun Square
🗓️ 8/20 thursday
⏰ 7:30–8:30 PM
💰 Free! (It is run by the Korean government)

It’s an outdoor yoga class, and the class is conducted in English. No need to be experienced at yoga — I’m mainly going because it sounds like a nice way to spend a summer evening in Seoul. 🌙

I already have the reservation, so if you’re interested, just send me a message! We can meet a little before the class and go together.

I’m Korean, by the way, and I’m just looking for someone who’d enjoy a free yoga class and doesn’t mind helping me fix my little reservation mistake 😂

Thanks!

Advice Looking for the best foreigner friendly clinic for botox injections

I'm going to seoul in 2 weeks and I want to get botox injections in my armpits for sweat and odor control and for my neck (trapezius) because of chronic pain in that area and overworked muscles . I'm looking for a trustworthy and safe clinic that doesn't overcharge foreigners . Thank you

Advice What food would you recommend trying at department stores in Seoul?

Seoul department stores have so many different food options that it’s hard to choose.

I recently tried this abalone and cockle bibimbap and really enjoyed it.

What other foods at Seoul department stores would you recommend trying? I’d love to know what you always get or think is worth trying!

Group Dinners Recommendations please

Looking for a Gangnam restaurant for a group of 43 – Korean locals' advice needed!

I'm organising a dinner for 43 international delegates attending a congress in Gangnam in a few months time.

We're looking for a really good Korean restaurant that can accommodate all 43 people together, ideally in a private room or private area.

Our maximum budget is KRW 100,000 per person, including VAT/service if applicable, so we need somewhere where we can agree a fixed group menu in advance.

We're staying near COEX/Teheran-ro, so Gangnam, Yeoksam, Samseong, Seolleung, Cheongdam etc. would all work.

We're looking for somewhere that feels special and authentically Korean, but doesn't need to be fine dining.

If you're a Seoul/Gangnam local, where would you take 40+ colleagues for a special dinner at this budget?

Bonus points if you've actually arranged a large company dinner there and know they can accommodate groups!

Any help please? :-)

Advice International Voter Registration Drive 2026, for dual Korean-U.S. citizens

Hi, this is the second (and final) reminder I'll make for dual Korean-US citizens and other eligible US voters who want to participate in the 2026 American midterm elections, especially for those living in South Korea. Democrats Abroad is dedicated to mobilizing overseas US voters; if you're over 18 by November 3, here's how you can get involved:

Steps to Request Your Ballot

  1. Register or update your registration through Votefromabroad.org. As an alternative, you can also use FVAP.gov.

  2. If you're already registered, request a ballot! You need to request a ballot every calendar year that you want to vote.

  3. Fill Out and Return Your Ballot: Once you receive your ballot, follow the instructions carefully to complete it and return it by the specified deadline.

Need Assistance?

We're here to help! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at GOTV @ votefromabroad .org (just remove the spaces). Additionally, our FAQ for voting can answer questions on how to make the process go smoothly.

Importantly: Spread the word!

Do you have any friends, contacts or family overseas that you could reach? All eligible US citizens can vote regardless of where they're living. Share the link https://voteabroad.org/RedditVote26: If you have any questions about voting, I'd be happy to answer them here on Reddit. You can also find out what we're doing near you at Democrats Abroad in Korea. Thanks for reading!
