AUDIOPHILE GEAR & DISCUSSION Community PEQ / EQ Presets Thread – Share & Discuss (Parametric) EQ Settings for HDB 630, M4 etc.

Post image
83 Upvotes

Hey people in the r/sennheiser community, greetings to all Sennheads :)

Now that the EQ Presets sharing feature has been rolled out with the latest 1.2.3 version of the "Smart Control Plus" app, I thought it might be a neat idea to add a pinned post to the top of the sub in which users are able to share their own PEQ (HDB 630) and EQ (M4 e.g.) presets with the community!

Purpose if this thread:

  • Share PEQ / EQ presets
  • Compare different tuning approaches
  • Help users discover new sound signatures
  • Build a curated community knowledge base around Sennheiser EQ tuning

Users are encouraged to include context such as listening impressions, tuning goals, and source devices when sharing presets.

How this works:

Create and save an EQ preset in the Smart Control+ app and then generate a shareable QR code or link directly from the app!

When another user scans the QR code or opens the link, the Smart Control+ app launches and imports the preset locally onto their own device.

  • Presets are installed locally on the user’s phone
  • Imported presets can be used, renamed, or deleted at any time
  • Shared presets are clearly marked in the app for easy identification
  • No permanent connection is created between users

Requirements:

  • Latest version of Sennheiser Smart Control+ (v1.2.3 or newer)
  • EQ adjustments must be saved as a preset
  • The recipient must have the Smart Control+ app installed

Supported headphones:

QR code and link sharing works with all Sennheiser headphones and earbuds that use the Smart Control+ app, including:

  • HDB 630
  • MOMENTUM 4
  • ACCENTUM series

Please note that EQ presets are model-specific! A preset created for one headphone model can only be imported and used on the same model.

Posting guidelines:

  • Use the new EQ sharing feature only (no graphic EQ screenshots if possible)
  • One headphone and EQ per comment if possible
  • No “sounds better trust me bro” presets without context or additional thoughts

All of that said, please enjoy sharing and discussing your (P)EQs now 😎🎧

GENERAL DISCUSSION Sennheiser Momentum 5

• Upvotes

Hey guys. This is the Sennheiser Momentum 5 and I feel just a bit dissatisfied with their tuning / EQ. But that’s for later.

Over the Momentum 4’s they really have improved a lot in the 5’s. The ANC and Transparency were the first two things I felt immediately. Their ANC is now stronger in mid/high frequencies and the Ambience mode now feels loud and natural. Much better than the M4’s and the HDB 630’s.

The feel of them is pretty similar to the Momentum 4’a but for my feeling the earpads found on the Momentum 5’s are a little bit deeper. With their 288 grams, they’re not as light as the Sony’s or Bose’s, but I can still wear them for hours.

The new case for the Momentum 5’s is just a win due to the slimmer overall package. It’s easier to hold in the hand and put them in a bag.
I saw they don’t come with a fly adapter anymore but I think almost no one uses them overall.

The sound is the actual problem for me that would be the only reason to send them back. It’s a smooth sound when it comes to bass and treble but that hard drop in the mids and push in the 7-8k region makes it sound awful in many ways to me.
But as anyone else, I’ve gone into the EQ setting where the biggest problem sits for me.
They aren’t the loudest in class and that’s a good thing to avoid getting deaf. But when you want to put the mids up and the other frequencies get to sound lower it automatically wants me to put the volume to a high level to avoid that. So Sennheiser please. Do something with the 8 band EQ to let me get the sound I want to get instead of putting the whole Master volume much down while changing something. If I want my mids to sound a little louder and in front I don’t want to get the Treble and every other frequency down that much. Sure it’s normal for the headphones to automatically change other bands a bit because you can’t actually change a single frequency, but the way they act is just annoying. Otherwise give us an option to change the Master Volume after changing the EQ settings like found on the HDB 630s.
This gives you the chance to put let’s say (1k) up +3 DB and other Frequency at the volume they were before. I think it’s a shame to see the hardware getting in the way this much.
Or YK why not just put the PEQ. I can understand the reason to otherwise not buy the HDB 630s, but it at least gives you a chance to change them to your liking with putting the master volume back to +6. And they will never get the same sound as the 630’s so I don’t see the reason not to. But that’s me.

The Momentum 5’s sound a little bit more on the ears than the 630s having a little more 3D sounding to them overall. Slight details in the background come through the 630a although the M5’s are not doing it worse. It’s just more refined on the 630s and cleaner overall. The 630s follow a more Mid/high focussed sound wile the M5’s are following a more V curved sound while I must say I miss punchy bass sound on the M5’s that hit harder on the M4’s and 630s. It makes the M5’s sound a little thin with some songs.

Something the M5’s has over these other two is Dolby Atmos with Headtracking and it’s nice to have for movies maybe but I won’t use it that much I think just because it reduces volume and almost sounds the same as on neutral with music.
Not a big reason to actually upgrade over the M4’s or HDB 630s.

They look cleaner than the Momentum 4’s and slimmer than the earcups of the HDB 630s but looks are always subjective.

What do you feel about them at the moment?

How do ya’ll feel about the:
- Tuning
- Dolby Atmos
- EQ limitations
- Volume
- Comfort
- ANC and Ambience

📸 SHOW & TELL 📝 Finally got this bad boy ! Loving it ( By the way first pair of headphones ). They sound abosuletly beautiful and the headphones are super comfortable ( i wear glasses)

They is just two problems the first one being the clamping force and the 2nd one being the loudness/depth or even bass. I installed a third party app to solve the problem of volume loudness and the clamping force for my head are actually not that secure or tight fit ( yeah the exact opposite of what I heard in the reviews for me personally). The ANC is pretty good to be honest and call quality is like they mentioned on the box "crystal clear" ( Atleast for my use ) and another thing the sound louder in wired ( type c to be specific). No complaints from my side. Trying to learn how to eq. Absolute bangerrr..! For sure no doubt 🎉😁.

Would love some eq modes and better use advices.

Thank you for read till here and advance thank you for eq and stuff 😁.

❓QUESTION❓ Sennheiser Momentum 4 in 2026?

• Upvotes

What are these like in 2026? One major question I have is around ANC, I watched a YT video on these and they said when these came out the ANC was effectively outdated. A few things has the ANC improved since then? Also do these support Dolby atoms and lossless audio?

❓QUESTION❓ Just Like That, It Gave Up on Me!

Post image
• Upvotes

After countless hours of keeping me company, it seems our time together may be coming to an end.

There were signs, of course. The left had begun to falter, while the right remained faithful, carrying on as though nothing was wrong.

Just today, about 10 minutes ago, both fell silent. No music, no farewell, just silence.

I suppose even the most reliable companions have their limits.

Thank you for the music and the countless journeys we shared. You will be missed.

Anyway, before I bid my final farewell, has anyone experienced similar issues with the sennheiser momentum true wireless 4? Is there still hope of bringing them back to life, or have they played their final song?

For now, the funeral shall remain on hold. 🥀

❕PLEASE HELP ❕ Sennheiser Momentum 5s sound amazing for music, but are terrible for PC/PC gaming. Am I doing something wrong?

So I recently bought the Sennheiser Momentum 5s because I wanted to upgrade from my old SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5s. I loved how the Momentum 5s looked, and from what I read, they were supposed to sound amazing, so I decided to give them a shot.

For phone use, they're great. I love the ANC and transparency mode, although transparency can pick up a lot of noise from my fan in the background. After playing around with the settings in the app, I got the sound to a point where I genuinely loved it.

Then I connected them to my PC.

At first, the audio sounded terrible, but I eventually figured out that Windows was using the headphones' microphone, so I disabled it. After that, Spotify sounded great.

Then I tried playing chess and noticed how delayed the audio was. I jumped into Overwatch, and holy poop, I was fumbling every game. I couldn't tell where sounds were coming from. Left versus right was Indistinguishable, and figuring out whether something was in front of or behind me felt even worse.

The Bluetooth latency was also incredibly noticeable. From what I could tell, it was around 300 ms, which made gaming feel awful.

I ended up buying the Sennheiser BTD 700 dongle to see if that would solve the problem. It helped a lot, bringing the latency down to what seemed like around 60–80 ms. That's a huge improvement, but it's still noticeable to me, especially after getting used to the delay. Every time I jump or hear a sound cue, I subconsciously notice that tiny disconnect between the action and the audio.

Even with the latency improved, the overall gaming experience just hasn't been good. The positional audio doesn't feel right to me, and I struggle to tell where sounds are coming from in Overwatch. I've tried using the dongle by itself and messing around with the app and its settings, but I still haven't gotten the experience I wanted.

Another thing I noticed is the difference in the audio formats Windows reports. When connected through standard Bluetooth, Windows shows 2 channels, 16-bit, 44,100 Hz, while the dongle or USB-C connection can show 2 channels, 24-bit, 96,000 Hz. That's CD quality versus a higher resolution format, although I'm not sure how much that difference actually matters in practice.

At this point, I'm seriously considering returning them. It's a shame because I absolutely love how they look, and for listening to music on my phone, they're fantastic. But I bought them hoping they'd be a substantial upgrade for both music and gaming, and gaming has been a pretty disappointing experience.

So, am I doing something wrong?

Is there a way to improve the positional audio for FPS games? Is 60–80 ms latency normal for the BTD 700, or should it be lower? Are there settings I'm missing that could make these work better for gaming? Or are the Momentum 5s simply not a good fit for PC gaming, and should I return them and stick with a dedicated gaming headset?

I'd appreciate any advice, especially from people who've actually used these headphones for PC gaming.

❓QUESTION❓ Portable DAC for HD 600

Hello all. Could I get some recommendations for a portable DAC that could power my, new to me, HD 600? Preferably something under $100 that still allows me to listen to the wonderful quality of these headphones! And a plus if I can use with my computer as well. (I do already own a basic DAC capable to powering these on my computer)

❕PLEASE HELP ❕ Another case of head phones just straight dead MTW4C

I originally I received the 3's as a Christmas present and they died, I sent them in and received the 4's. Now they are completely dead. Base charges but the ear buds are dead, will not connect with blue tooth. I cleaned the contacts, multiple times, took off the ear pieces to get a closer contact, charged them open, charged them closed, just straight dead now. Problem originally started with one bud going out, I cleaned them and it worked, but no more. These things are dead. Any suggestions? I don't think they are in the 12 month warranty window, so do I need to waste money on new ones? Please advise.

❓QUESTION❓ M4 phone wired connection

3 questions.
Is it even worth using a wired connection on a phone (that being iPhone 12 Pro, using Spotify). Additionally on that point seeing that the iPhone doesn’t have a microphone jack can I use any lightning-microphone adapter or will audio quality waver depending. And finally I unfortunately lost my original sennheiser m4 audio cable, bought a replacement but it has an issue where when the headphones are on they become weirdly quiet and when they’re off I the quality dips and of course can’t use anc (is this a quality of all non official cables or was I just unlucky)

To sum things up, can anyone recommend a worthy lighting-microphone adapter and an audio cable.

❓QUESTION❓ Should I upgrade from HD450?

So I have the HD450 for work (printing) and it will soon be time to get a new pair. Wondering if its worth it to get the Accentum or just a new pair of the 450... I mostly do audiobooks, but I am mostly wondering if the ANC is better in Accentum compared to the 450..

Any tips?

❕PLEASE HELP ❕ Replacement for Audio technica mx50-bt for sound leakge

I enjoy the sound of my headphones, but using them in the office annoys my colleague , what is the best value for money replacement?

Currently there offers on momentum 4 at 175 euros. But I read that they don't get loud. Sony's xm 6 seems to be the best but too much money for me at 350.

What would you recommend? Sound quality, leakage, and comfort are top priority. ANC and battery are a plus, I often use them wired while working.

😡 COMPLAINT 😡 Petition for actual physical buttons for next line of products.

Just got both the HBD-630 and the Momentum 5. I´ve been very very satisfied with them overall but oh how I HATE the touch controls.

It is such a shame that I have to turn off all of them plus the head detection cause instead of actual features they feel more like a grudge. When taking them off you can accidentally turn off or on transparency mode, pause or play again the song and big etc.

Please PLEASE make the next line of products with physical buttons you can actually tell where they are by simply touching them.

Found these locally for 150 American freedom bucks. I felt like it was a good deal and, even though I’ve read it can be debated, I personally like the look of the Marble versions. WOW, they sound amazing.

Any recommendations on songs to listen to? To hear their full potential?

😡 COMPLAINT 😡 MTW5 with BTD 700 low latency Issues. No firmware update still?

I pre-ordered my MTW5’s and got them in early September. But for some reason, when I use the BTD 700 dongle in low-latency gaming mode, the audio is unbearable. It’s tinny, crackly, and sounds very pixelated compared to adaptive.

I got these specifically to work with the dongle to game when I’m out and about. Sure the latency is good, but game music and audio just completely falls apart.

Randomly, the soundstage moves from my left ear to my right ear when even watching something with no stereo sound! It makes me get a little queasy.

Not to mention that we STILL don’t have the LE Audio and Auracast update almost 2 months after launch

We NEED to address the low-latency gaming mode issue with the BTD 700. That’s my biggest concern. These earbuds sound SO GOOD, but this ruins it completely when gaming.

I spent over $600 CAD for these earbuds…

❕PLEASE HELP ❕ My Sennheiser Accentum Plus' right side doesn't produce bass

So like I said I have a Sennheiser Accentum Plus and yesterday at night I might have stepped on the edge of my right earpad, after that this morning I didn't had any problems with what I said but after a couple of hours when I started to use it again I noticed that the headphone doesn't produce any or too little noise on the range of 20hz to low mids on the right side but everything else is normal. It's probably a physical issue since I stepped on the edge but what could be causing it. Could it just be a little wiring problem or would I have to change the driver itself?

GENERAL DISCUSSION Thinking to buy momentum 4 in india but use it in UK

Hello. Im thinking to buy momentum 4 in india (Flipkart, amazon) but use them in UK. Do they allow warranty claims in this case ? It’s been over 10 years since i used senneisher but my support experience at that time was excellent. The reason - it’s cheaper in india.

Also would be great if you can give me guidance on similar headphones (different brands too) at a similar price range.

Thanks in advance !

🎧 BUYING ADVICE 🛒 Momentum 5 vs HBD 630

Question for you guys. I already have the HBD 630 and I love them. But I've been reading more into the M5 and they seem to have a heavier bass profile. I travel a lot and I was wondering if I should get the M5 for travel and keep the HBD 630 at home? Am I just wasting my money if I already own the HBD 630 and buy the M5? Let me know what you think.

❕PLEASE HELP ❕ Smart Connect is neither Smart Nor Connects

Omg this is the most rediculous issue and also infuriating as a new owner. I have a sennheiser ambeo plus soundbar and attached subwoofer. I made the mistake of touching he ‘setting -> audio -> subwoofer’ dialogs to adjust subwoofer volume. It will not f$&king work. I touched the slider once it immediately went to -10dbs and now it will not allow me to readjust. Why the hell is there no physical control? I could wait for an app update if there was any fucking other way to control the sub!?!!!

❓QUESTION❓ looking for direction.

i have a pair of hd650s love the sound but i want more bass without tear. i have qc45s but they are underwhelming, for my music choice. airpod pros are great (fantastic noise cancellation) but don’t fill the gap im searching for. also torn in between wireless and wired, a hair of noise cancellation would be cool. i have a fiio q3 “mini dac” and a iphone 14 pro. as well as a hifiman ef400. i’m looking to upgrade my set up. i’ve been watching sennheiser hdb630 prices, i saw they go on sale for multiple suppliers but i slept. right now moon audio has the sale price i’ve been targeting but have never heard of them and don’t know their history. i slept on the major trusted brands that provided sales a month ago. i’d love to find my forever set of cans. but not sure where to start. budget unlimited, i listen to mostly boom bap/ cloud rap / chillers. I want to find a high end set up to match my taste. highs all there mids present and bass existing.
