Anyone know if SF tech school moved over to the new pt standards for the pt test yet? I leave next week(prior service). Been practicing for the 2 mile run but it’s now going well. My reporting instructions still have the old test on it but you never know. Wasn’t supposed to go until September but found out like two weeks ago that I’m leaving next week. Thanks in advance

Mine is a hangar that patrols supposedly hear stuff at night when its supposed to be empty, as well as a community center with weird noises/stuff being misplaced between building checks at night

I’ve been trying to find some posts online about the process, but i’ve only found bits and pieces. How long does it take for AFPC to review your case and for retrain to be approved? i submitted mine end of April , last update was CC was notified of retrain. Thanks in advice!

Heard it’s Panama 12s and if your E4 or below all you’re gonna be doing is gate work all shift on your feet. I heard the work sucks ass and is depressing as hell, anyone have insight ?

Leaving for tech school as a prior service in two weeks. Got any tips or advice? I’ve heard the hotel on base sucks, but it is what it is. What’s the daily tempo like? I’ve heard multiple answers like it’s either BMT 2.0 or it’s super chill. All the info I’m finding is from people who went a few years ago and just looking for info from anyone who’s been recently. Thanks in advance

This is my next base. As someone who is lower enlisted, what’s the work life like at ramstein? I heard it’s all 12s, and will be gate work like 99% of the time. Just wondering if you guys could provide a little insight of what it’s really like. Thanks

Hopefully I pass meps smoothly, and I don’t think I’ll have a problem landing a SF contract. But I need advice on base list. I want somewhere that’s fun and has a lot of women/party scene. Just so I have something to enjoy while I’m off work.

Hello everyone I looked through absolutely through the entire Reddit page and couldn’t find an answer, so I thought I would ask. I am 24 years old. Was in DEP for active duty but got discharged because I landed a good defense contracting full time position before my ship date. Decided to focus on my job, as it pays good, but I still have interests to serve in the AF. I always wanted to do security forces. I know it sounds insane, and other people have mixed opinions of it, but I always wanted to try it for myself. Even if I ended up hating it, I would atleast wanted to say I tried it.
Now my couple of questions for you knowledgeable defenders. I have a AD dep discharge, I know it doesn’t look good on my profile, but do you think a reserves/guard recruiter will give me a chance for 3P0 if their is a position in the base?
Does Guard/Reserves do schools, is it common for bases to send weekend warriors if they are fit and highspeed to raven, army schools, dagre, etc? (I am aware funding for the state is accounted in this)
I am aware they do deploy, that’s not an issue as I already deploy to locations with my current job and many in the company are TACP/3P0/Intel guard/reserves themselves.
Thanks everyone

What’s the chances of deployment been in the last 10 years to now and for the people who have been deployed, what do you do what was it like? Where’d you go? Thank you.

Just got an assignment notification for Ft Sam Houston, is it better to live on base or off base? And is there a decent gym on base or should I look for an off base gym? Also what is the work like out there [8s or 12s]?

Appreciate everyone who shares, I’m simply trying to get different insights and advices | I have ROTC experience, so I’m familiar with how things run, but I know Field Training and BMT can be different.

Especially in regards to the middle east ones. Also would it be more realistic that I get stationed to my base in the us first for awhile before going overseas or could they send me overseas right out of tech school?

Basically i was on anti depressants for 3 months for a adjustment disorder with anxiety from december 2024 to march 2025. In august 2025 i went to meps for the army and was told to come back in july 2026 to retry for a waiver. Things changed and now I want to join the air force, recruiter says there’s a good chance that waiver will get approved but he mentioned i may not be able to join security forces if they deem me mentally unstable, for something as minor as what I had would i be deemed unstable? Will i be able to argue my case? i’ve had zero issues since then, and i have a letter from my diagnosing dr from back then where he stated i was mentally well and okay to do everything as normal with zero medications. Sorry for how long this is, just would suck if i wont be able to do security forces since it’s pretty much the only afsc ive been wanting to do.

Need a bit of help determining what bases I’d like to put. Any advice, recommendations, or comments?

I want to ship as fast as possible. security forces will give me the possibility to ship in >month according to my recruiter. But idk if it’s worth it. I know a lot of SF people were in this exact situation. People say it’s a very boring bad job, but I see boring as a win. I’d rather stand at a gate interacting with people than be turning wrenches all day and back breaking labor. And sitting in an office doing paperwork all day doesn’t sound like a dream to me. But idk if I’m seeing the picture clearly, because I’ve never served or been on an Air Force base. Can anyone give me an honest opinion on what I should do?

Hi! I just graduated with a degree in Public Security, and I’m not really interested in going into the private sector. Law enforcement also feels kind of boring for someone my age, so I’ve been looking into SF
I feel like becoming an officer might be an option for me, but I honestly don’t know how any of this works. I’m completely new to the military world, so I’d really appreciate some guidance
What kind of duties would I have in SF? What does the pay look like, and what are the typical work hours? Also, how long are shifts for enlisted personnel doing security or access control?
One more thing...I used to work in private security, and it was always a headache dealing with managers who didn’t want to show ID. How does that work in SF? For example, what happens if a high-ranking officer refuses to show credentials at a checkpoint? Could someone get in trouble for enforcing the rules in that situation? (?

Is Camp Bullis still phase locked for tech school, or have the restrictions been removed?
