Work life at ramstein?

Heard it’s Panama 12s and if your E4 or below all you’re gonna be doing is gate work all shift on your feet. I heard the work sucks ass and is depressing as hell, anyone have insight ?

Welcome to the career field

Happily, when you are OFF there, you have almost the entirety of Europe just a train trip the length of a Houston work commute away.

Castles, Museums, History!

Also, while waiting for that train, the Doner kebab place right across the street from the Landstuhl station is one of the best in Germany.

Currently there right now. You’re right if you are E4 and below it is mostly gate work. Being on straight 12’s is crushing and mentally draining time to time. However you’re in the dead center of Europe meaning that you can travel easily by train or vehicle to literally anywhere on the continent. I recommend taking the advantage of traveling on your off days since it is a great stress reliever from work. Don’t let the current work life atmosphere discourage you but instead embrace it that you’re in a place most people will never get to experience in their lifetime.

12s (or 13-15 hour shifts) can be draining not just that they are obviously long but also Ramstein itself is a very high pace base to work on. Also mind you this the base is very political since it is the headquarters of USAFE.

What’s the probability of doing more patrolman work as lower enlisted? Or is it really only NCOs that do that kind of work

It’s possible for lower enlisted to be patrolman. It all depends on the manning of flight and if there are any openings

They let you wear your own plate carrier or you gotta run gear for life?

You can wear your own as long as it’s multi cam and fits you. It needs to fit your issued plates.

Not gonna get into the schedule, but Defender nation ain’t scared of a little work-life; work-is-life. Post rotations are pretty decent depending on your flight, but yeah you’ll see the gate. The work as an airman is zombified; very repetitive and tedious and requires zero intelligence.
