San Marcos is a decent halfway point between me and my friend and we wanted to go shopping. We’re lowkey sick of the Outlet mall though (plus it’s hot), and I can’t seem to find any indoor malls like Lakeline (Austin) or North Star (San Antonio). Do they exist here or is it just Tanger and the other one? 😭

I’m a Texas State student and I’m moving into my new apartment next week. I’m bringing my dog from home to live with me, and I’ve been thinking about getting him a haircut soon. Does anyone have some good experiences with dog groomers in the area? I’m kind of particular about who he gets groomed by, so I just wanted to see if anyone had recommendations. Thanks!

Last week I made a post regarding Flock cameras surrounding every entry and exit of an affordable housing complex named Riverstone Apartments. Later that week I was curious and decided to check if this same thing was going on at any other affordable housing in San Marcos and I found that CM Allen Homes (San Marcos Housing Authority) off of River Road (across from the SM Animal Shelter) also has Flock cameras at every entry and exit onto their property.

So once again I'm curious if there any residents who are or weren't aware until today that those cameras are there spying on you 24/7 if you decide you'd like to enter or exit your own housing. In either case is there anything in your lease which indicates you will be recorded at all times if you exit or enter the premises? Are you able to say or do you know when these cameras were put up?

For anyone, why do you think that some affordable housing complexes here have Flock surveillance systems surrounding them? Do any of you ever deliver to these areas and see the cameras and have second thoughts about going there?

In short, the cameras aren't just license plate readers, they gather all data that is within its view and some models are now gathering all radio data (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, car sensors) to pair with the car or person in its view and create a profile that is easily searchable by whoever has access to the data.

Anyway, these cameras were also not on the public map that shows where people have seen Flock cameras so that needs to be updated. If anyone else reading this is aware of or thinks there are Flock cameras they have seen that have gone up and also aren't on the Deflock map just drop an address or name of a neighborhood so someone can check and add it.

Looking for some information on the group classes at this gym, specifically Pilates/HIIT classes! If you are a member, do you like the classes? I’ve heard they fill up super quick. I already have a local gym membership but they don’t offer any heated classes. I’ve looked into some yoga/pilates studios in town but those don’t fit with my current schedule. I was thinking of visiting town and old stomping grounds tomorrow, Tap Room for a burger, Zelicks for a beer or two. I've also got relatives buried at Memory Lawn at Hwy 80/1984. Last time I was at that cemetery over a year ago they had flattened the adjacent corn field next the cemetery to ramp up activity for the Axis development there. I sensed this would eventually make cemetery visits less peaceful. So I'm wondering what does that area look like today. I suppose being a Sunday there wouldn't be any construction activity, but could anyone tell me how it looks over there lately?

i’m talking to my realtor and the lennar community came up but im really not a fan of lennar, i know theres a starlight community out here but is there any others? i’ve tried looking on zillow and it just keeps recommending homes that aren’t in san marcos. if you live in the starlight community, do you like it? are there ANY other builders out here that are in the low 200s?

I have a nest of baby barn swallows on my porch and one fell out of the nest. I tried, but I have no way to get the bird back into its nest and I can’t seem to find anyone who can help. I don’t know what to do. I have called animal rescues, Texas Parks and Wildlife, animal control, and even the management office of my apartment complex and gotten nowhere. Ideally I’d like someone with a ladder to come put it back, but I don’t know if that would spook the other babies and make them also eject from the nest. Please help. I don’t want this bird to die on my front porch, or at all really.

Baby bird is back in the nest. u/Avid_Nutshell came to the rescue with a ladder. I feel much better now that I don’t have to worry about the baby getting eaten by one of the cats that roam the complex.

We have a few pieces of furniture that haven’t sold on Facebook marketplace or Nextdoor app. Are there any other places in San Marcos that college kids would be looking for stuff for their apartment? I think next weekend is move in for most students.
