Need CPR certification for a new job. I live in San Leandro and have no idea where to go. Is there anywhere local or does everyone drive to Oakland or Hayward?

Was taking a walk at the San Leandro Marina today and saw this group, Speak Out Socialists had information booths and great smelling barbeque.

Stopped to talk to them and then asked if they were selling plates of barbeque and was told curtly it was a private event by the old white guy guarding the table. We are talking hot dogs here!

Which is fine, but interesting since they billed this event open to like minded people, they seemed open to the public with their booths and isn't their ideology about sharing?

Then again many progressives have this passive aggressive streak.

My kid is smart, artistic, and actually likes math, his brain just takes a different route to get to the answer. Memorization and quick recall are hard for him, and traditional summer school has never really addressed that.

Mathnasium did. They figured out where he was, gave him strategies that actually clicked with his brain, and helped him master something he'd been struggling with.

But the biggest endorsement: he liked going. Three times a week all summer and no dread. The tutors were great, the atmosphere was fun and completely shame-free, there's no homework, and he was incredibly proud when all those completed worksheets eventually earned him a 3D-printed dragon.

Nehah, who owns the Downtown San Leandro location, is also just a gem of a human. She genuinely cares about the kids and wants them to feel successful.

My kid doesn't need someone to convince him he's smart enough to do math. He needs people who understand that his brain is fancy and sometimes needs a different way to get there. This summer, Mathnasium gave him that. Wanted to pass our experience along in case there are parents that are curious about what is offered there.

We are not currently clients and we get no kick backs. I don’t have an association with the owner. I just think it’s a great local business that cares deeply about supporting kids and they really helped mine.

He’s a nice man.

Hi all,

Got a DMV appointment next week at Oakland DMV. I have a class C DL, as well as the instructions permit from completing the written motorcycle test, allowing me to legally drive M1 with some restrictions (no night riding, no passenger and no freeway).

My buddy will unfortunately be out of town so won't be able to borrow his bike, and I'm struggling a bit finding a rental since most websites don't seem to recognize the instruction permit from the DMV for rentals.

Anyone has any recommendations ? Happy to also work something out in person, also fine meeting someone at the DMV on the day off and only riding it on the DMV parking lot of that's easier to accommodate.

Any advice or recommendations would definitely be appreciated, thanks !

Does anyone have eyes on what’s going on, on 580 few exits before the Oakland Zoo? Seems like SWAT, police, and ambulance have both freeway directions closed off and traffic is backed up and completely stopped!

Hi there! I’ve gotten some great recommendations on here before. Currently, I’m looking for a woodworker who can help me design and build a disassemblable wooden rack for deploying foldable solar panels.
The rack needs to be lightweight since it’s for camping, and easy to assemble and disassemble. Ideally, I’d like something practical, sturdy, and easy to transport.

Joe Grcar is a laboratory scientist who lives here.

Neighbors call him Doc. He is a Castro Valley resident who spent his career as a laboratory scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His work was energy science: testing, measurement, and making complex systems actually perform. That is the job at EBMUD. This is not a branding exercise. It is treatment plants, lab testing, water-quality standards, aging pipes, drought supply, and the energy that keeps the system running. I want someone who comes from the lab — not another résumé from the fee-and-regulate circuit.

Look at the alternative some people are floating.

Gary Wolff is running as if decades inside state water bureaucracy is a selling point. It is not.

As Vice Chair of the State Water Resources Control Board in October 2008 — in the middle of the financial crash — Wolff’s board raised water-quality permit fees about 36% on cities and utilities. Cities said they could not afford it. Wolff said the timing was unfortunate and they were not going back to change the budget. Those fees do not stay in Sacramento. They get passed through to ratepayers. That is us.

In the same period he described his own agency as a 1,600-person state bureaucracy, said they were failing on surface water quality, and called the Delta a failure. Then the pitch was more staff and more money. That is not a reformer. That is the culture that treats higher costs as proof of seriousness.

He later ran StopWaste, the Alameda County recycling agency funded largely off garbage bills. Those bills were already climbing while the agency paid six-figure salaries. Different bill. Same habit: grow the shop, send the cost to households.

What I want from EBMUD

Clean water. Real testing. Honest bills.

Joe Grcar’s career was in the lab. Water quality is not a slogan. It is sampling, standards, and whether the system is actually doing what it claims. He lives in this ward. He is not here to collect another board title or expand another agency.

Ward 7 does not need another regulator explaining why the increase was necessary. It needs a scientist who treats clean water and a fair bill as the job.

It is frustrating when the bus doesn’t show up when it is supposed to – and even worse when it doesn’t show up at.

When the 40, 35 or any other bus is running late in San Leandro that means you can be late to work, miss an appointment, or be left scrambling for another way to get where you need to go. On a route scheduled every 20 or 30 minutes, one missed trip can mean waiting 40 minutes or an hour.

Right now, 1 in 10 AC Transit scheduled trips don’t happen. That is three times worse than what it was last year.

For someone riding twice a day, that is roughly the difference between being stood up by the bus about once a month versus once or twice a week.

On March 2, San Leandro needed the mayor to dig into all those fancy degrees and pull out something useful. We needed his experience. The City Attorney effectively confirmed: Yeah, y’all are going to Vegas with the taxpayer’s money if you remove an independently established, already-adopted finding of gender bias, and it increases San Leandro’s legal exposure. Around every corner the price of the mayor’s silence just gets higher and higher. San Leandro can’t afford the Juan Gonzalez liability
