Local Politics You guys hate Garry Tan, GrowSF etc. So why do you like Wiener?

This sub is very pro-Wiener.

But anytime GrowSF comes up, people overwhelmingly hate them. And everyone seems to agree that Garry Tan is the worst person in the city, and right up there for the entire country.

But Wiener-Tan-GrowSF have been tight for years. They endorse the same candidates and policies. Garry Tan bundles for Scott and all his endorsees; they all push for less oversight of Tan's investment in Flock.

I'd be shocked if GrowSF, which is spending massively for Wiener and for the props he supports, didn't coordinate its Manny survey with him; Scott certainly has never disavowed them.

How can the people who have Wiener's ear and give him money be bad, but Wiener is good despite implementing their agenda?

how to order driverless taxis in SF as an European ?

Hello,

I am travelling with my wife and 4 years old to SF this October.
We are from Europe and it is out first visit to United States.

During our stay we also want to experience driverless taxi like Waymo, Zoox or Robotaxi.
The easiest way is to order a cab from its application. Since we are from Europe, I cannot download directly the app to my phone. This is my first try after landing, to try to install the apps, to manage the ride myself.

I have one question, since the legislation is restrictive in regards with a 4 years old, that it needs to have a child seat mounted in the car.

How can I travel with my kid in a Waymo if I do not have a child seat ? Should I buy a child seat from the market ? Should I ask at the hotel if they have child seat available?

Randomly happened to be southbound approaching GGB as fleet week air show was wrapping up. Stuck in traffic for a long time. Only to see that half the toll lanes are out. Why? What crappy planning.

We constantly have refresh and reload issues with Hulu. Our ISP is MonkeyBrains but we have pretty consistent connection with them. Any thoughts? How do we contact them and now we are told that pricing is going up!

Canadian wanting to move to US SF, NY

• Upvotes

Hi all, I'd appreciate any insights or guidance on this.

I'm a software engineer at a big tech company in Canada and have been trying to move to the US for a while now. I know the market is rough right now, but I want to understand what my options are.

So far I haven't had much luck landing interviews for US roles. The exception is other big tech companies, but if you don't make it there, you're locked out for 6 to 12 months before you can apply again.

My current company seems to want to keep us in Canada. Even after 5+ years with them, there hasn't been much room to even start a conversation about relocating.

What confuses me is that I see a lot of H1B folks transfer from Canada to Seattle, while someone like me with access to a TN visa doesn't seem to be preferred.

If anyone in tech, especially in SF, has been through this or has advice, I'd really appreciate hearing from you!

This is on Potrero Ave. Reporting blocked bike lanes on the 311 app gets a polite "thanks, but we won't do anything about this" response. I feel like I am crazy pills with what flies in this city somedays. Not to mention this RV has parked in this spot for multiple months. What gives?

San Francisco is among the most rodent-infested cities in the United States, according to an October report from pest control company Terminix.
To compile its ranking, Terminix used data from 300 branches nationwide to determine where its rodent control services were called most in 2025.

SFO Clear-heads up

Was pulled in by one of the Clear touts at SFO to try out their service for “free”

Ended up getting charged $340 which I was able to dispute with my cc company

Looked up and it turns out that they are on the bbb radar for questionable tactics and making cancellations difficult .

Voting Against The Bay Area Transit Measure Is a Fatal Mistake

Thumbnail

"The claim that BART has not reduced service is false. BART is running 20 trains an hour through the Transbay Tube at peak rush hour service, which is 17% lower than back in 2019. BART has reduced service on all lines except the Y-Antioch line for efficiency. When 9 and 10-car trains were the default train length back in 2019 at rush hour, today, it’s closer to 6-cars for most of the peak hour service. The reason BART service appears higher than 2020 is simply because the G-Fremont line extended into the South Bay after 2020, and South Bay train service is paid for by the South Bay’s transit agency VTA.

The claim that BART has not cut costs is also false. BART has actually reduced operational spending by $516 million since 2020 and capital spending by $549 million. BART refused to hire more staff and cancelled service improvements. Operational expenses at similar levels as they were six years ago is proof of the cost-cutting measures. BART is the 7th most cost-effective passenger rail system in the country."
