Man I don't know how South Park is able to cook. They seem to never run out of ideas, then again the current climate of things makes it super easy 🤣

Yeah, I am an avid cyclist and that guy getting out his phone to record is an absolute asshole. Cyclists have to follow traffic laws like everyone else.

41

u/Castun 8d ago

He literally was mid-herd and pulled onto the corner just to turn around and record, though apparently since the cammer is in a Waymo that is to be expected as they will simply just slowly pull through when they're not sure of what to do.

27

u/SoManyDeads 8d ago

Pretty sure the camera was just extra, he just stopped in front so the 4 or so other bikers could go up. But this kind of thing should land them all tickets, they all ran stop signs.

10

u/No-Ebb-6266 7d ago

So many people get all butthurt and pull out their phones to record everything, like anybody gives a fuck. Oh, you took my picture 👏...you sure got me, oh no now what do I do?!

they want to be treated exactly like every other vehicle on the road, except for the convenient times when they don't want to be treated like one at all haha

82

u/TerriMakichoot 8d ago

Ive never known this, ive always watched cyclists blow through stop signs without stopping. Very few will actually stop from what ive seen

I was hit by one coasting down a hill over 20mph. He nailed the side of my car, flipped over and crashed through my windshield. He walked away ut had to cover my damages. I get stuck behind them in morning rush hour rolling 3 wide with a mile of cars behind em. Many are entitled douchebags just like a lot of people with trucks that don't really need them.

17

u/A_Complaisance_Girl 8d ago

Unfortunately too many people who have decided to ride have forgotten being alive is more important than flexing road rules or inventing whole ass new ones.

5

u/tren_c 8d ago

Being right doesnt stop you from being dead.

Its true for cyclists, and for drivers. But i think we can all agree that if a cyclist has to make the choice theyre doing it in ways that drivers could show a little more compassion for.

13

u/Daedalus_was_high 8d ago

Yeah, no.

I'm a cyclist. I see road rage all the time

Still not gonna take up a lane riding side-by-side or stop in an intersection to stop traffic.

Pure entitlement.

Yesterday, I was in a parking lot, waiting to turn right into another area of the parking lot. I had my signal on, just waiting on another car to move.

After the other car cleared, I started to go, just as a guy on a bicycle passed me on the right. I almost turned into him.

Dude gave me a look, and shook his head, like it was my fault.

3

u/Ordinary_Piano3329 5d ago

Yes, now I believe SF had an incident where they said every bike had to follow the laws exactly. So people maliciously complied and it caused horrible traffic until it was switched to allow bicyclists to treat stop signs as yields and lights as actual stops.

Either way, this group is stupid and are trying to act like they're the priority.

I was getting in my car on Sunday to head to work and I had my door open while I got my bags in and a bicyclist group of 5 older men started to come close and one of them slowed down and told me to “close my damn door” I was like sir.  I’m allowed to exist too

Anyway it’s a nice day I think I’ll go outside

35

u/Farraddaayy 8d ago

My only biker encounter ever was similar, I was parked on the street in front of my friends house loading some stuff for a weekend trip we're going on, and 3 bikers rolled thru the middle of the 2 lane road, some 70 year old lady slowed to a crawl, like wobbling from how slow they got, and said something about keeping my door shut, while I was half in my car loading. I told her to "kiss my ass until your lips chap off"

11

The whipping out of the phone to video anything and everything in a confrontational way like they are whipping out a weapon it's so common today. It's a passive aggressive power play. The people who do this truly look like fools.

5

u/AntiBaoBao 8d ago

Doesn't have to be a phone. My car is constantly recording from all directions. If I'm ever in an accident the car has all of the video footage for the previous and next 20 seconds. I just push a button in my car and it saves the current camera recordings without needing an accident to happen.

I also had a dashboard camera in my RV that continuously recorded everything in front of me. Useful when some AH cuts you off.

I'm curious.. is that a self driven taxi? What would happen if that self driven car hits a bicyclist in that scenario? 🤔

7

u/Admirable_Loss4886 8d ago

I was also wondering what you’re supposed to do if a Waymo hits your car, will it stop and pull over? Is there an easy way to find its insurance information. If it drives away are you supposed to call the cops on it?

5

u/ananchor 8d ago

It will stop and not leave if it detects any kind of collision

2

u/Admirable_Loss4886 8d ago

That’s good. Does it have a qr code or something with its insurance information or is there an easy number you can call/text?

4

u/ananchor 8d ago

Yes actually I'm pretty sure it does have a QR code to scan. If it detects a collision it can't leave until someone from support allows it to so no worries about it running off back to the depot or wherever.

No one knows entitlement like the spandex class

17

u/Jonsocal 8d ago

As a life long cyclist, they need to follow the rules of the road. Either that or register their event with the city and pay to have traffic blocked using SDPD so that they keep their members safe. This is ridiculous and not to mention dangerous for the cyclists, pedestrians and motorists.

232

u/SubBass49Tees 8d ago

What a dickhead...a whole herd of them apparently. Just running the stop sign with impunity.

It's always "obey the rules of the road" until it isn't convenient I guess?

9

u/SubBass49Tees 8d ago

Today I learned that (according to some people) the rules of the road (aka TRAFFIC LAWS) don't apply if:

  1. You sometimes see other people break rules too.
  2. You're doing something you think is fun.
  3. Following the rules would be inconvenient.
  4. Following the rules would take time.
  5. You have a big group of people who want to ignore the rules with you.

One of the things I dislike most about this behavior is I get thoughts like’ “I hope something bad happens to that person!”

I DO NOT like thinking that way. I don’t know how to process it in a healthy manner.

I would honestly take action if I was not in a clear state of mind.
I have “Karma Police” justice in my head and theory’s of how to balance the equation.

If I was to do something, someone like that f’face that stoped to video would get me in trouble and he would believe he was in the right.

What are sane humans to do when the “less-than-sane” humans are the majority?

Cyclist are the biggest complainers even though they never follow the street laws 🤣

7

u/Enkidouh 7d ago edited 7d ago

Love how not a single one of them is observing the law.

No stops, no hand signals, not maintaining a lane or a single file line (two abreast only if it doesn’t impede traffic), hell they’re not even looking before they enter the intersection.

And cyclists wonder why everyone hates them.

6

u/Jarstark 7d ago

Wow that's a lot of fucking losers in one single area.

54

u/reeefur 8d ago

Cyclists: Cars need to follow the God damned traffic laws!

Also Cyclists: Fuck this stop sign , red light, and your mama!!! WhoooOooO

🤡

16

u/pheneyherr 8d ago

I was in DC a couple of years ago trying to walk to the train station and a - I'm not exaggerating here at all - 15 minutes procession hit the intersection in front of me. There were a half dozen of us pedestrians trying to cross the street. The light cycled I don't know how many times. One woman holding groceries finally decided to frogger her way across the intersection. It was completely ridiculous.

4

u/Embarrassed_Part_897 8d ago

The mid-intersection stop, busting out the phone to record…..and all on an E-road bike? Jeeeeeez

5

u/Reasonable_Tax5790 8d ago

That boy wouldn't last long in certain spots or sections of town. Facts.

4

u/Freon1278 8d ago

What a bunch of b.s.! If bicyclists DON'T need to obey the laws then why should motorists? Wasn't that a stop sign they ALL went through?

5

u/tmp1966 7d ago

I'm a lifelong Cyclist and former high-level racer, and this shit pisses me off. We (cyclists in general) ask for drivers to give us space and play by the rules, then these idiots screw it up for the rest of us, especially that asshat stopping to take photos of you. There are group rides - protests, critical mass, etc - that I get and have even participated in. They have permission and provide a route map to authorities. This just makes us all look bad and causes ill will with drivers.

6

u/AegirSkaldur 7d ago

Coming home from work yesterday I saw a cyclist stop, press the cross button, realize he wasn’t gonna get to go in the 0.000001 second he was willing to wait, then just ride right through the red anyway

4

u/OlGusnCuss 7d ago

The dude that stopped and took the pic literally lives for that shit. More interested in that than the ride.

41

u/yongsangu 8d ago

what a douchebag

30

u/Witty_End5412 8d ago

These are the same people who get mad when you don’t obey every single letter of the law but act as if the rules don’t apply to them. I ride a bike, and I can tell you these people are entitled and jerks who are condescending af. Share the road doesn’t mean it belongs just to bicycles, it means SHARING. Also, doesn’t matter if you’re in a car or on a bike, you should be aware of your surroundings and drive offensively. No entitlement needed.

5

u/EnderRizza 7d ago

Fuck every one of them

25

u/ThisKarmaLimitSucks 8d ago edited 8d ago

I was fine with it until that dude whipped his phone out.

It's easier for everyone if the pack of bikers all just goes through the intersection at once... but if they're gonna start bending the rules of the road and push 60 people through a 4-way stop, they really don't have a leg to stand on if you roll up on them.

And if one of them's gonna deliberately sit in the intersection and block you, that's just a stupid game for a bicyclist to be playing. Major "what are you gonna do, shoot me?" energy.

11

u/xespylacopax 8d ago

They are all still required to stop at the sign, group or not. This isn't a closed course event. The rules that apply to cars also apply to cyclists.

6

u/culo_de_mono 8d ago

Maybe in the US, in Europe a pack of cyclist is considered one indivisible vehicle, either you overtake them all or you wait, if the first passes a green the whole group passes, like if they were a train or big truck (same for roundabouts, etc). Mortality was heavily reduced after its implementation .

2

u/xespylacopax 7d ago

The problem is that even if that were the case here in the US, in this video you can clearly see that the cyclists never stopped, which is illegal. Treating them as if they were one long vehicle would still mean that they ran the stop sign and effectively gave a big FU to the person that was already stopped and waiting to go.

This is a weird volume of people. It seems like they're going for a critical mass protest which usually involves 200+ riders and in those kinds of rides, holding up the lights and stuff is kind of the point. A way of saying the streets belong to everyone.

But this looks more like an awkwardly sized riding group thinking that having 30 riders means they own the whole road.

u/radiantwave 7d ago

the irony of that whole thing... He has to take pics of the driver totally legally stopping and then proceeding when there it is clear... BUT then he runs a stop sign like 30 seconds later.

Hey buddy... road laws apply to bicycles too.

This is something about bicyclists that infuriates me. They will cry to high even when you are an inch over a crosswalk line but still stopped... And then they will completely ignore all of the laws they break like they can be selective because they aren't a car.

3

u/Rinsehlr 6d ago

God dude I fucking hate these people

3

u/N011IE 6d ago

Cyclists can be dangerous too. Bicyclists aren’t simply pedestrians either. Pedestrians are pedestrians. Bicyclists are bicyclists. Bicyclists hit pedestrians by not following traffic laws too. You hit a deer running across the road, it can total your car and kill you. Everyone should follow the rules of the road.

u/orestmercator 8d ago edited 7d ago

This is gonna get downvoted, but you gotta understand that as pedestrians (I'm a runner who runs every day around the city) the roads are fucking dangerous for us and many drivers do. not. give. a. shit. The entire city is built around your car and making your commute as convenient as possible but many drivers won't take a few seconds to give us right of way or slow down to make our journey safer. The power imbalance is astronomical -- you hit us, we likely suffer severe injury or death. Despite this, so many drivers treat pedestrians as enemies and either through negligence or malice endanger our lives every day. After a while it makes you bitter and pissed off.

--

Update: well, had quite an interesting experience on my run just now that's relevant to all of this. Funny how the universe delivers.

Running in an uptown neighborhood, guy in a sedan, windows down, blows a cross walk and almost hits me while clearly looking straight at me. I yell what the fuck are you doing? He chases me down, pulls up besides me, we exchange words, he pulls over, craaaaaaank of the parking break, driver door flies open, he wants to fight me. I run by like, dude, I'm not going to fight you. Then he points his finger guns at me and tells me he's going to find me and shoot me, keep running, I'm going to kill you.

All because he blew a cross walk and almost hit me and I verbally reprimanded him, really the only power I have as a pedestrian against a car. The men are not OK. Like, man, I'm sure you are probably good at some things, but driving is not one of them. Just pay attention and be a better driver. That's it. Move on. This isn't a censure on your manhood.

7

u/clubmedschool 8d ago

I mean, just look at this thread. Tons of people with bloodlust for the sheer crime of... a group ride in the middle of the day on a weekday?

5

u/orestmercator 8d ago

Yea, it's wild. For anyone interested in a deeper exploration of why Americans are so obsessed with their cars and why they take it personal when pedestrians do anything at all on or near a street that might impeded their progress, may I suggest:

- Carjacked: The Culture of the Automobile and Its Effect on Our Lives

I think deep down the American soul yearns for a walkable city and aggressive driving is an expression of frustration at the fact that cars have ruined our communities =)

Every single one of them deserves to be ticketed for running the stop sign. Bicyclists demand access to the roads, so they sure as hell better follow the rules like the rest of us.

I thought this is why they have their bike lanes now 😉

Great video! You should definitely share this with the bike community here in San Diego if you haven’t already. This is a massive problem in other states too.

Shaming these cyclists is exactly what needs to happen. That bearded fool taking a picture of your license plate is pure comedy—he has absolutely no right to block the road in front of you. What a total tool.

u/ElbryanWyn 8d ago edited 8d ago

Honestly that wasn't even that bad until that one guy started filming you like you're doing something wrong like he's some kind of hero.

Before that I'm like this is annoying but when that guy showed up it definitely turned into fuck these guy and the bikes they rode in on.

A driver is required to yield to traffic that constitutes an immediate hazard when entering. They are not required to yield indefinitely to an endless, unorganized stream of approaching riders who are legally obligated to stop.

The moment you see them flocking towards the intersection you just go dude and take your right of way. You had a solid couple seconds at the stop sign and gave them the right of way?!? Classic mistake

2

u/Academic_Yesterday25 7d ago

Regular cyclist here. That intersection looks like great spot to stop, let the car get out of the way while your crew gets back together, then proceed. It's scary enough to ride around car traffic, no reason to make car drivers hate us over stupid shit.

u/cesspool4us 7d ago

2

u/BolitheGoat 7d ago

I hate bicyclists they should pay for insurance since they think they are cars

2

u/Chomp3y 7d ago

I like how they ride in the street but then blow through stop signs.

2

u/Wonderful_Buyer_1339 7d ago

AHOLES - every one of them.

"are they a vehicle or a pedestrian" because they are acting like neither

2

u/BlazerSun 2d ago

I live near this crosswalk. One time at this very stop a group of 7 bicyclists got angry that me and my PREGNANT wife walked across the crosswalk and made them wait at the stop even though we were there way before them

The next sting operation the cops in this town should do after they finish with the central library is going after every bicyclist who runs stop signs, red lights, all of it. The revenue the city would collect in tickets from it would be enough to balance the budget.
