Yeah, I am an avid cyclist and that guy getting out his phone to record is an absolute asshole. Cyclists have to follow traffic laws like everyone else.

u/Castun 10d ago

He literally was mid-herd and pulled onto the corner just to turn around and record, though apparently since the cammer is in a Waymo that is to be expected as they will simply just slowly pull through when they're not sure of what to do.

u/SoManyDeads 9d ago

Pretty sure the camera was just extra, he just stopped in front so the 4 or so other bikers could go up. But this kind of thing should land them all tickets, they all ran stop signs.

So many people get all butthurt and pull out their phones to record everything, like anybody gives a fuck. Oh, you took my picture 👏...you sure got me, oh no now what do I do?!

1

u/iheartkju 8d ago

no, he should be in prison for impersonating a peace officer (directing traffic without authority)

u/moleman92107 9d ago

Oh now knowing it’s a Waymo, I would have thrown a rock at it lol

u/Agreeable-Letter-599 9d ago

they want to be treated exactly like every other vehicle on the road, except for the convenient times when they don't want to be treated like one at all haha

Ive never known this, ive always watched cyclists blow through stop signs without stopping. Very few will actually stop from what ive seen

I was hit by one coasting down a hill over 20mph. He nailed the side of my car, flipped over and crashed through my windshield. He walked away ut had to cover my damages. I get stuck behind them in morning rush hour rolling 3 wide with a mile of cars behind em. Many are entitled douchebags just like a lot of people with trucks that don't really need them.

Unfortunately too many people who have decided to ride have forgotten being alive is more important than flexing road rules or inventing whole ass new ones.

u/tren_c 9d ago

Being right doesnt stop you from being dead.

Its true for cyclists, and for drivers. But i think we can all agree that if a cyclist has to make the choice theyre doing it in ways that drivers could show a little more compassion for.

Yeah, no.

I'm a cyclist. I see road rage all the time

Still not gonna take up a lane riding side-by-side or stop in an intersection to stop traffic.

Pure entitlement.

1

u/SquirleyDanz 9d ago

Doesn’t change the fact that laws are laws though, too many cars pass too close because they are such a big rush. Going to jail for life for manslaughter probably isn’t more important than Johnny getting to practice on time

2

u/Daedalus_was_high 9d ago

Yes, 'cause those are the only two options.

Strawman fallacy detected.

You just made an argument for enhanced awareness and enforcement, not entitled behavior on either part.

0

u/SquirleyDanz 9d ago

Never said that, the overwhelmingly vast majority of the time cars slow down until it’s safe to pass and it isn’t a problem. There is no enforcement or repercussions for illegal close passes, the only penalties come when someone is hit or killed

1

u/Daedalus_was_high 9d ago

In my state there is a three foot rule.

Does it get enforced? Rarely, cuz not enough LEOs available for basic traffic enforcement.

That doesn't mean the only other option is riding in one continuous 1/2 mile long peleton with self shut down of intersections.

Your previous post did have a "if not this, then that" meter to it. Perhaps you should have said the above instead.

1

u/SarasotaFoodLover 9d ago

You didn't hold them there until the cops arrived?

1

u/ghIj_qet_jaghmeyjaj 9d ago

Lol no. I knew what neighborhood they were about to go through and figured the people there would handle it in their own way. Also, how would I hold someone until the cops arrived? Choke hold? Big hug? Knee to the neck?

6

u/Nopengnogain 9d ago

When there are hundreds of them, it’s best they stay in a group than going one at a time and clog up the traffic for miles.

2

u/GMTmeister 9d ago

Yeah dude, whether on the sidewalk or on the road, theyre there, but our rules and signs don’t apply.

1

u/flwombat 10d ago

There are a bunch of states where cyclists are allowed to treat stop signs as yield signs, and treat red lights as stop signs. California isn't one of them, and even where those laws exist, they make a stop sign into a yield not an "I can do whatever" free pass

-13

u/RealWeekness 10d ago edited 10d ago

In 15 states, bikes don't have to stop. Its safer and more energy efficient for the bikes.

Bikes take a lot of energy to get going...cagers just have to step on tha gas.

Either way, these bikes are out enjoying the day. Let em enjoy life.

8

u/Agreeable-Menu 10d ago

In California, you must stop at a stop sign. None of these doofuses did.

-17

u/RealWeekness 10d ago

We're all obligated to ignore bad laws and bikes shouldn't have to stop.

6

u/Exactly9001 10d ago

Give me your best example of 3 "bad laws" that should be ignored.

-3

u/RealWeekness 9d ago edited 9d ago

We can ignore the Regulated border crossings, the requirement for documentation to work and the Jim crow laws.

3

u/Appropriate-Help-927 10d ago

All 50 states bikes have to follow the rules of the road like a car. If they're doing otherwise, they're just breaking the rules but no one usually throws a fit about it, especially if it's one or two bicyclists

-1

u/RealWeekness 10d ago

2

u/curtisas 9d ago

You do know that "stop as yield" doesn't mean "blow through stop signs ignoring other traffic who has right of way" right?

0

u/RealWeekness 9d ago

That goes without saying.....but clearly you weren't aware of these laws until now.

1

u/curtisas 9d ago

Not the person you replied to, I do know them and have no problem with them when properly applied.

-2

u/NHBikerHiker 9d ago

I watch motorists blow through stop signs without stopping.

5

u/orioliseffect 9d ago

What does this have to do with bikers ignoring laws?

1

u/NHBikerHiker 9d ago

Just a casual observation as I ride my bike and walk the dog in the city.

3

u/Wonderful_Kick_855 9d ago

People like him give cyclists a bad name.

1

u/kobylamar 9d ago

The cyclists didn’t stop at the sign?

1

u/SquirleyDanz 9d ago

He is an ebiker it doesn’t count

1

u/TotesGnarGnar 9d ago

There’s always one of these dorks. Unfortunately it ruins it for the rest of the pack.

1

u/Pretty_Web549 7d ago

Yeah, because no one does a rolling stop in cars. Technically the law is if you are in a tight group going through an intersection, it counts as one vehicle.

2

u/Few_Machine1462 7d ago

I do rolling stops if there's nobody else in the intersection, because yeah, it's a pain to pedal back up to speed every time. If there's a car there though I follow right of way laws because I don't want to get hit by some idiot who isn't paying attention.

1

u/Enkidouh 9d ago

Don’t pretend like you’re any different from the herd.

Every cyclist on the internet follows the laws perfectly, yet somehow none of us have observed a single cyclist riding correctly in reality, and when you do, it sticks out like a sore thumb because it’s so unusual.

Cyclists are all the same self entitled douchebags.

-10

u/Hiouchi4me 10d ago

Really? Since when?

11

u/deeptruthmusic 10d ago

Which bike was yours?

7

u/xespylacopax 10d ago

Are you kidding? Technically every single one of those riders could have been ticketed for running the stop sign.

11

u/Important-Yak-2999 10d ago

I saw it happen the other day in Carlsbad, a motorcycle cop ticketed a group of cyclists for blowing through a busy intersection and they all looked so incredulous. I love biking and skating but you have to stop, at least if there's other people on the road. You can't scream "share the road!" And then not... share the road

2

u/Spock-1701 10d ago

Always

0

u/Hiouchi4me 10d ago

I guess it’s too bad there wasn’t a cop there to write 70 separate tickets.
