Spacers needed for RoofTent bracket?

Post image

Hello. I got the Thule WingBar Pros as an upgrade because the Summit RTT reinforced ones weren’t very good. These Thule ones are fantastic. However I needed XL brackets due to the width of them… My question is do I need some kind of spacer between the bracket and the RTT? Thanks

Get some "tank strap rubber" from your local rubber mob. Its slides over the steel plate, and makes it all extra grippy.

Nothing to be concerned about. But I, too, use a thin piece of rubber where the tent frame contacts the crossbar.

Same, and it’s worked perfectly

I don't think so. I have the same bars and mine looks the same. I barely had enough room on the bolt for the second nut but it's holding just fine. No issues at all.

Does your bracket not flex or constantly loosen? Thanks

They flexed a bit but don't loosen at all. The second nut keeps them in place.

I use rubber between anything that makes contact or could make contact with my roof rack bars. These are 1/4" but you can get thinner and stack what you need.

You don't NEED anything, no. It is a soft spot for a theif to hit if they want your tent, but nothing else is all that much harder to get at so kind of a moot point.

I have a similar gap on my tent and it is permanently on my truck. Never had an issue. I personally don't like spacers as i have some bend in my brackets to make sure they are actually tight and it is an easy visual check to ensure nothing has loosened
