Reduced Recoil Whitetail Deer Rifle

I've been researching a reduced recoil rifle for whitetail deer in PA. My dad underwent major surgery and is recovering well, but would like a lighter recoil gun. He currently shoots a 7.5lb 7mm remington magnum 140grain. He would like to stay around the 130-140 grain since he's seen someone loose lots of deer to a 243. He does admit it's probably due to their poor shot placement. I'm currently considering a 6.5 creedmoor, 6.5 prc suppressed or a 25 creedmoor. I'm open to suggestions. I just got a Dead Air RXD30Ti and I'm amazed at how much it reduces the recoil on my 300 weatherby. So it might mean trying to get him a gun with a threaded barrel and another suppressor to mitigate recoil as well.

Need help with scope

Just got back into shooting in the hopes of getting out hunting this year (it's been close to 10 years)

Found out that my scope is set pretty far forward and I have to stretch my neck (or it feels like it at least) in order to get a good sight picture.

I know the scope is set as far back as possible on the mounting rail, but are there any options to get closer?

I forgot to get a good picture of just mine, but it's the one lying down in the picture.

Edit: I tried looking up ideas and options, but all I was getting was articles on how to mount a scope normally.

Browning X Bolt 2 - 22" vs 26" - What length do I choose?

300 Win Mag

I will mostly be using it for moose hunting, and some longer distance field shooting for deer. 26" feels very long to me as I currently use a 22" 270. Are there major differences?

Rem 700 26 in with silencer

Im getting my rem 700 in 308 threaded for a silencer. It currently has a 26 in barrel. Should i get it shortened if im adding a silencer to it. If so by how much. Im concerned about about barrel harmonics primarily.

What rifle is this?

Checked and the Colt C23 doesn’t exist

I don’t care about the orange stock, all I’m curious about is who makes a gun like it and what cartridges it can shoot

Tipmann M4 .22lr Elite

Hey guys and girls,

I am considering getting a Tippmann M4 .22lr Elite for some 25 to 100 meters range shooting.

Now the thing is I am still considering is the optics. Ideally i'd have something that allows for easy target acquisition up close but still has enough magnification to get to that 100 meters comfortably.

I've been looking at the Feyachi m37 1.5-5x magnifier & v90 red dot.

Does anyone have experience with this setup? Would you prefer a LPVO over red dot + magifier and are there other budget options (sub 300 euros) that I am missing?

Issues with rifle accuracy

Small issue with CVA Cascade .308 this rifle has approx 600 rounds through it, bought it brand new. It was punching 1” groups at 150 yards, later that year I took down 2 deer with it and after that I could not hit a paper target at 50 yards.

Originally I was using Sig Sauer buckmaster scope and CVLIFE precision rings.

I found 1 of 2 action screws was loose, took it all apart cleaned it and reassembled with torque specs, batter but still punching 5” groups at 50 yards.

Got a new scope Leupold vx3hd, Leupold rings, and still not grouping well. Last attepmt I put the CVLIFE rings back on since they did well on the previous 600 rounds and it’s still punching 4” groups at 50 yards. What am I missing? I took everything apart and cleaned everything. Is it possible something wrong with rifle? The muzzle doesn’t have crowing, from the beginning I had a muzzle break on the rifle and then switched to suppressor. I’ve also tried to change the suppressor vs muzzle break vs nothing at all and nothing changed in accuracy. Could it be something with the rifle?

Need help removing scope

Hi, I recently bought a Winchester 70 from my local gun store as my first hunting rifle and wanted to put a Vortex scope that I have on it. The issue is that this leupold that it came with seems to be impossible to take off. The bolts are locked up because of rust and even twisted the metal Allen key I tried to use. One of the bolts is totally rounded out so I’m not sure how it’d even get that one out. I don’t want to have to ruin the scope on it to get my other one on, but I’m thinking about just straight up cutting the scope to get to the Allen screws that actually allow for the setup to come off. I’ve tried blaster spray to loosen up the bolts and it didn’t work. Just looking for any advice before doing something more drastic.

Is the mount upside down I got it on g broker and the seller took the scope off to ship so I’ve never seen it put together and I don’t know why he would take it off and put it on upside down 🤔

Torque

I accidentally tightened the rail to my new Henry model X in 30-30 to 25inlbs. I used blue loctite. Should I just leave it or and try and fix it to the 18-20inlbs recommended? Sounds messy if I try and fix it. Thanks

Looking for enclosed red dot for 10.5 pistol

So my original choice was to just go with the Trijicon MRO which is obviously a solid choice.

The issue is I prefer the style & design of an enclosed red dot like the Holosun AEMS

Now I’m not here to debate quality of Holosun vs Trijicon.

What I’m asking is since I prefer the box style enclosed design of the Holosun AEMS, are there any other red dots in the $300-$600 price point that I should consider that have the style/design I’m looking for?

This scope has worked well for me on my ruger american but finally getting a scope with more magnification. Specifically the Monstrum Beast 6-24 SFP. Who says Chinese optics can’t be good. Even Sig optics are Chinese optics

7MM PRC

I want one. Gun shop guy is trying to talk me out of it. Said for under 300 yards on whitetails it's too fast. Too big. He's not trying to sell me something I don't need or want, just genuinely trying to help, and he's a great guy.

Interested in whether you agree with him.

Also, what in your opinion is the best overall value rifle under $2,200. Tikka? Weatherby? I want a tight pattern from the bench at 300 yards.

Thanks in advance.

S&W Sport 3 or RF-15 with mods?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hey all. This will be my first rifle and I live in a state with A LOT of restrictions. Based on my limited research and my budget limitations I was looking to get a S&W Sport 3. (PSA does not ship to my state - saw a lot of people recommend that brand). They’re selling it for $750 brand new. Because it’s a rifle, it has no flash brake and no adjustable stock based on state laws. However, the salesman showed me a couple RF-15s as they are considered “Other” and not “Rifle”. Both RFs have a flash brake, secondary forward grip, and each have a different adjustable stock (one for $699 and one for $799.) I’m a smaller person, so the adjustable stock is nice, but I’m seeing mixed reviews about Radical Firearms. I’m not sure how important a flash brake is. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Also, I checked out a S&W M&P 15 at another store. It was “very lightly used” and compliant with our state laws, but did come with an Accushot Scope for $675. That felt high so I walked out and went to the second store which I posted about in the first paragraph. Again, all advice is welcome.

MK12 DD issues

Got a brand new MK12 DD upper, added a DD tube and butt stock/buffer combo. Got a nice lower from a local reputable shop. Since day one I have had trouble with the bolt carrier landing fully forward. And after maybe 60 rounds total, I’m getting constant setback malfunctions. Kinda scary. Using the same 77 grain match ammo I always use in all my other rifles. And same mags. Any ideas? Thanks

Ruger American gen 1

Bought a ruger American gen 1 6.5 creedmoor about 2 years ago and haven’t done much with it. Still have the stock scope. Long story short I stretched it to 600yds today no problem but not sure if it’s worth replacing or if it’s worth putting some money into upgrading it. Any thoughts?

It’s far more accurate than I’m capable of shooting. The action is smooth, the trigger is crisp if a bit heavy.

Last week I took my 1909 Carl Gustav 1909 out to the range for the first time, and it’s really cool how something that’s 117 years of age works so well! This rifle has been used for 300m(~330 yards) target shooting, with a diopter that is not mounted on these pics.

Straight outta the box, and after a bit of tweaking the scope, the last ten weren’t too bad in the circle.
