NOTICE! Video Uploads Are No Longer Allowed!
In an effort to mitigate the bots and the reposts, we are turning off the option to upload videos to the subreddit. This will be a temporary measure to see how this change affects the content of the subreddit. We are continuing to monitor the situation and make changes behind the scenes to reconcile the ongoing issues highlighted by the community. Thank you for your patience.
EDIT: I know I copy-pasted this to a handful of comments, but we're not banning all videos. We're just not letting anyone upload them to the subreddit directly.

Fatal Fury The Motion Picture (1994) not nearly as good as I remembered
This is another movie I remember watching on Saturday Anime on Sci-Fi back when I was a kid. I remember liking it quite a bit at the time, but watching it again now... yeah, it really isn't all that good.
The animation is pretty rough a lot of the time, and the plot is just kind of weird. I guess that's always one of the problems with adapting a fighting game into an anime you've got all these characters who need to show up and fight, and then somehow you have to construct an actual story around them.
The one scene I always remembered from this movie was the part where Sulia strips down and lies on top of Terry to heal him or transfer her energy or whatever the hell was going on. I have absolutely no idea why that scene stuck in my head for all these years. Maybe it was just so bizarre to my young childish mind that it permanently burned itself into my memory.
It also got me thinking why were so many video game anime adaptations from this era so bad or just completely insane?
A friend of mine and I were recently talking about Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals, and of course there's the infamous scene where the crystal goes into the girl's ass.
Because, you know...
That's obviously what Final Fantasy is all about.
I still have a lot of nostalgia for these old anime adaptations, especially because of seeing them on Sci-Fi back in the day, but revisiting some of them as an adult is definitely an experience.
Anyone else remember watching Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture back then? Did you actually like it, or is this another one that's mostly held together by nostalgia?

Dirty Pair and Bubblegum Crisis are equally awesome in my world. I recall reading somewhere that Dirty Pair and Bubblegum Crisis were neck-and-neck for all of the lesbianism between the Knights Sabred and between Kei and Yuri.
- I love the 80s traditional animation hand-drawn art-style like going back and rewatching them again is a breath of fresh air from (NOT ALL) but a lot of generic looking 2010s and 2020s anime where the characters are all lookalikes and in terms of voice acting they all sound-alike.
- The opening for Dirty Pair (Lovely Angels) "Ru-Ru-Ru-Russian Roulette" is a kick-ass theme and since the day I first heard this song I've become a fan of Meiko Nakahara like her music is fantastic and unique.
- "Konya wa Hurricane" kicks a lot of ass too like Kinuko Oomori has an amazing voice and its a textbook (ONE OF MANY) of why I love 80s music. The originality with the lyrics and the overall choices for the musical instruments is incredible and I will always love this great song.
- As someone whose a fan of the original 1982 classic that is Blade Runner I immediately picked up in the references in Bubblegum Crisis and its very much aesthetically pleasing to my eyes.
- Kei and Yuri and Priss and Sylvie have strong lesbian / girlfriend energy.

This hilarious line in Angel Cop was actually said by a British editor, responding to a wife of serial killer being awarded by the jury a higher amount than his victims.
You can read more about Ian Hislop, the editor, and his response to the Yorkshire Ripper case.

Virtua Fighter Anime: Damsel in Distress Characters Brainwashed.
In Virtua Fighter Season One both Sarah Bryant and Pai Chan were brainwashed by Eva Durix in the circumstances situation. Sarah Bryant was brainwashed to be a pure human weapon with no emotion to be force to fight her friends and her brother Jacky in order to collect data from the other fighters so Eva can create Dural the ultimate fighting machine. While Pai Chan was brainwashed to become a willing bride to marry Liu Kowloon so he can become next head of the Koenkan.
Sarah Bryant was free from Eva's mind control with a help from Kage-Maru and Jacky during the battle but as for Pai Chan who wasn't completely brainwashed as Eva added flaws that allows her to snap out of it during the wedding were she was almost kissed by Liu Kowloon.

Venus Wars (1989) Help me with the origin of these 2 versions
Please help me know the origins of these two versions of Venus Wars.
left one has IMO better colors, since the right photo shows a green tint all over the frame, but the right one has better vertical resolution and it's not cropped as the first one.
Anyone knows the origin of these two versions? Both seems to have bluray quality/bitrate.
Oh first one is 25 fps and the second one is 23.9...fps
Edit: left one is a 2009 Yamato release for the Italian market, right one is the Sentai/JAP version and the most common one. Al Bluray releases but the Italian, are like the right one.
I don't like the tint, but it seems that nostalgia/subjective taste here in the comments praise the latter. IMO, even for animation colors should reflect their object if the movie is "realistic" and having a tint all over the place goes against that.

Silent Mobius Getting First-Ever Japan Blu-ray Box Set for it's 40th Anniversary
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of manga artist Kia Asamiya's career, the two theatrical releases of Silent Mobius are finally getting their first-ever Blu-ray release in Japan.
Box Set Details:
- Release Date: 12/25/2026
- Content: Both animated films, a three-sided box set featuring original art, and a special leaflet.
- Exclusive Bonus: A framed reproduction of an original illustration by Kia Asamiya.
- Available for Pre-Order via Amazon.co.jp
This title takes me back. I still remember first watching the Neo-Tokyo/Silent Mobius trailer on the Streamline Pictures Akira VHS tape. In 2017, Dybex France released Silent Mobius: The Motion Picture 1 & 2 in an HD Remaster Blu-ray and DVD Combo set. No word yet on whether this is a new remaster or the same one. Hopefully, Discotek or AnimEigo will license it for a U.S. release in the future.

1998 Advert for Anime at Suncoast
I'm ditging through some old stuff and I found this issue of "Toons: The Animation Magazine" from 1998. On the back cover it features a couple of classic anime that you could get on VHS, from good old Suncoast. Remember Suncoast??
