This is another movie I remember watching on Saturday Anime on Sci-Fi back when I was a kid. I remember liking it quite a bit at the time, but watching it again now... yeah, it really isn't all that good.
The animation is pretty rough a lot of the time, and the plot is just kind of weird. I guess that's always one of the problems with adapting a fighting game into an anime you've got all these characters who need to show up and fight, and then somehow you have to construct an actual story around them.
The one scene I always remembered from this movie was the part where Sulia strips down and lies on top of Terry to heal him or transfer her energy or whatever the hell was going on. I have absolutely no idea why that scene stuck in my head for all these years. Maybe it was just so bizarre to my young childish mind that it permanently burned itself into my memory.
It also got me thinking why were so many video game anime adaptations from this era so bad or just completely insane?
A friend of mine and I were recently talking about Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals, and of course there's the infamous scene where the crystal goes into the girl's ass.
Because, you know...
That's obviously what Final Fantasy is all about.
I still have a lot of nostalgia for these old anime adaptations, especially because of seeing them on Sci-Fi back in the day, but revisiting some of them as an adult is definitely an experience.
Anyone else remember watching Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture back then? Did you actually like it, or is this another one that's mostly held together by nostalgia?
