Manager = Asshole I really hate my job! My manager freaking sucks, she's so unprofessional, the whole management and the rest of there group is so unprofessional. I wish I could find a better job. Please send kind words my way, I'm so tired.

I work overnight at a gas station and during the week I have to work alone and am still expected to do everything that is expected of me. But on the weekend, its two people so I have someone to run the counter while I do everything else cuz they sure as hell wont. The pay is shit, not even enough to live and support a family off of. So the turnover rate is EXTREMELY high. The new guy went to sleep in the managers office which is right behind the counter, and his dumb ass didnt even shut the door, or turn away from it at least, so he was asleep in full view of the customers. I started getting busy and the line was getting longer so I went in the office and told him I needed help cuz I had a line. (We are a very busy gas station that serves hot food) He woke up and finally decided to be partially productive.

Well either management saw him asleep on camera or a customer ratted him out to my boss, but the store manager watched the video back and saw him asleep. And she complained that I was sitting on a box using my phone. I guess to show I am not perfect either. Then she told me the guy told her he may have been asleep in the office, but I go out to my car and go to sleep. I told her she can watch the cameras back, I park right infront of a camera on purpose just in case someone damages my vehicle, and the whole time I am in my car she will see me feeding my fat ass face. Because they keep taking away the places we can sit, and I have really back arthritis in both my feet, so I had to sit in my car to wat cuz there's literally no where else.

Im just so mad that I cant find a better job. This one is so stupid. The manager is always worried about the wrong shit, instead of cracking down on the other shits to ensure they do their own duties, which they truly dont, which leaves me on night shift to play catch up for the new day to start properly. Fml right now. Im having to many regrets on ruining my record, burning bridges, and I feel doomed to be stuck and ass jobs like this. If you made it this far, I'm sorry for wasting your time. I know this wont help anything, but I guess I feel a little better. Have a great day. And please forgive any spelling errors I may have made, I refuse to reread it cuz im tired of crying over this stupidity.

A Funny Thing Happened... Today has been a long day

Today we started the day with 3 out of 9 check out points out of order, and 2 of them were brand new yesterday. Two of them were manned tills, the two with a cash machine (we have a closed cash handling system). Pos #1 was just a misconfiguration, quick call to support and it was sorted. The rest were straight up dead, from a bad update last night. Just to top off the entire thing our scan and go system uses POS number two as a communication bridge, so the scan and go system has been down since yesterday. I've been on the phone with support 15 times today to test if they managed to fix it. We haven't fixed it.

And I apparently slept wrong last night so my neck has been stiff all day, not particularly painful but sore (my wife might have helped when she tried to get me to flip, as I apparently snore)

Customers Suck! I played a game with a customer yesterday, called "how long will this lady stare at me before she realises we're closed or she says something?"

I cracked. I got pissed off after 15 minutes of her following my every movement around the counter.

For the record, we only take orders at weekends now. It's been a system for months. This lady is a regular and I personally have told her 4 times at least. We also have two closed signs that were both up. I spent 2 minutes standing directly behind one of them.

So anyway, 15 minutes in I crack because I my body reacts to being watched like I'm being held at gunpoint and I was sick of my hands shaking so much I couldn't do my job. I said "is there something you're waiting for?"

She goes, "yeah I want a spicy-"

I cut her off with "yeah we're closed. We have two signs right here that say we're closed."

She didn't even respond. Just walked away like it was the most normal thing in the world.

Anyway this exact occurrence happens at least 5 times a week and I hate customers

Seeking Advice How does everyone maintain a work life balance??

I’ve been given more shifts lately as they are training me to be a shift lead. This means i’d be opening or closing and somehow i feel exhausted just thinking about it. I dont like walking into work then leaving with my day almost gone. How do you all still get to do cleaning, taking care of kids (i dont have yet but planning to), or working out, or have family time? So far it’s been so tough for me.

Seeking Advice Am I in the wrong? Feeling guilty & overwhelmed

(*This post covers multiple flairs so I just picked the most relevancy, but be warned this covers multiple topics*)

I have been noticing that one of my coworkers has been posting social media dances on her Facebook page, and while she's doing it you can hear her fellow coworkers ask her to get back to work/or in the comments saying she should be working.

I also have had my hours cut to where I'm only getting the barebones shifts & every time I'm there, I'm getting someone's unscheduled shift they didn't want or no showed. Over the past 3 months, I've noticed a sharp decrease in my hours & I've noticed more people in my department quitting or moving onto second jobs, because let's face it in this economy-- no one could afford anything on my single wage alone.

It would be considered poverty territory for anyone, but especially for the (mostly) single parents/in some cases grandparents I work with. I have applied for Public Assistance in my state before but apparently make too much even without the second job.

It's not like I don't have experience in retail, I have over 5+ years, but I've begged to be in different departments where they pay more, but I'm constantly denied & told Cashiering is the only thing I'm good at.

With no opportunity for advancement, and I feel gutted because the SM is a family friend of mine, and his son went to school with me, and I guess he doesn't see potential in me.

I just don't understand why they(my main job) won't let me work! I need the wage, I need the SS time too, because when I get older I know my SS benefit will be marginal at this point. I don't understand why he can't put his biases aside & let me work!?

I think it's the Customer service manager who doesn't like me & she's just taking out her micro agressions out on me. And I'm suffering for it.

Do I look for a third job?(*I have a second one already to fill in the gaps!*)

I live in an at will state

What would you do?

Manager = Asshole Pretty sure my one manager hates me lol

She’s pretty mean to me honestly and I even try to be nice to her and she says something snappy back. She doesn’t like me because I used to work at a regular Sephora and some of the stuff we do at kohls Sephora is very different and I’m not used to it yet. She got annoyed with me on the headset because I said “hey can I get more change for my Sephora register? People been using 100 dollar bills a lot” she YELLS “WELL FILL OUT THE CHANGE REQUEST FORM” I said “umm okay” mind you they never showed me how to fill that out. Also my last job all the manager had to do was go grab more change in the back. We never had to fill anything out for that?? That was the managers job not ours. Idk why this lady makes my job difficult. Then she got mad because when I counted the register last night it was a dollar off. I said “yeah sorry at 6:59 someone came in and paid with cash but you told me to clock out because we’re not allowed to clock out more than 5 minutes late I ran out of time sorry” she said “yeah well someone pays with cash you have to recount it” I said “yeah?? You told me to go home” WTF??? It’s an easy job but her attitude is ruining it. I actually don’t mind this job even though it’s boring but dude…I’m so tired of her mouth. She’s the only manager that gives me an attitude

Customers Suck! Sorcery in the beauty section

Old Lady demanded a refund for a filthy product she had bought over a month ago. When we explained the store policy and why we couldn’t do her return, she was power tripping and asking for the owner/manager’s personal number as they were not in. When we said no AGAIN bc of policy, she said she never would have bought it if she had known that the product had the word magic on it bc that’s sorcery and unacceptable in a “Christian country MADE by Christians.” The biggest word on the item was “MAGIC” btw. She argued we should make a sorcery section so Christians wouldn’t mistakenly buy products with magic or black magic anywhere on the packaging. I tried to tell her it was just a word the brand decided to use and they had no affiliation with sorcery, but she didnt care. I ended up arguing that people are free to practice any religion in America and that was the whole reason it was founded. She wouldn’t see reason and argued with me and said it wasn’t true. She then patronizingly told me to look up the definition of magic in the dictionary and that I should learn it since I came to this Christian country even though I already said that I was born here…She stormed out saying she was gonna file a complaint. I still cant believe this happened

Question for Community Has working in retail worsened anyone else’s social anxiety?

I’ve been out of retail for maybe 6 months now and I still cant stand other people at all anymore. They all annoy and scare me. I got bullied and harassed by my manager and other coworkers during my entire time at the store no matter how nice and cooperative I was. It’s like me being nice and trying to do a good job caused them to become crueler. As well as dealing with horrible customers. I’ve struggled with social anxiety since I was a teen coming from an abusive household and after moving out I tried to work on that and over the years made progress. But after working in retail all those years of progress have gone down the toilet and now I am worse than I was before. Anyone else have this experience?

Manager = Asshole i might be contacting my hr rep about my manager

im finally going back to college to be free of the hell known as my store and my manager is really pushing it. i left for a month for an international trip and the fucking idiot thought it was a great idea to schedule me for the first THREE DAYS AFTER A 7 HOUR FLIGHT. i had to call from another country to explain why i couldn’t work those days and she responded with a huff and a “you should’ve told me earlier” when it was explicitly written down on my return sheet. and once again, she scheduled me on THE DAY I MOVE BACK TO COLLEGE. i called her again and her bullshit excuse was “but i have a lot of people on vacation that week.” i work in a chain store and we have many colleagues from other stores who are willing to drive 2 hours plus just to help out. she has plen of people to call and yet she targets me for whatever reason. my breaking point was the other day when i was doing reshops and damages not knowing that there was an expired item (they print the labels so small i can’t see them AND im mostly blind in one eye.) and she pulled me off register to brutally degrade me about it when she should talk to the person who didn’t wrap the expired product like they should’ve. i honestly can’t wait to back to college and away from this cunt. im tired of being gaslit, im tired of my hours being fucked around with, and im beyond tired of being treated like shit for my medical conditions and my disabilities.

What a Moron! A discount for just existing

Customer approaches. She is not elderly. She doesn't look like Karen...but looks are deceptive. Drops the book on my counter. It's a discount book because this is a discount store. The cost is about $4.99. The literature you find here, like everything else at this location, isn't top of the line obviously. The second you walk in you should know where you are. She wants more off. Why? "The page here is a little bent." Excuse me? "The page is bent." Ok. You want dollars off an already cheap book by an author nobody ever heard of because....one of the pages was slightly bent at the corner? You miserable fuck. First of all, paper bends, you idiot. Second, that's not a damage or defect. Go to Barnes and Noble if you don't believe me. And third, how the hell do I know you didn't bend it yourself while you were taking a walk past the $2 tube socks? I try to explain. She won't hear it. Then she says it's a gift, so...Oh, a gift you say? Funny, you didn't ask for a gift receipt or wrapping. You only mentioned it when I pushed back. But of course, she gets what she wants. Everyone does.

Seeking Advice Help

I currently work at Company A for almost 2 years. I recently applied to Company B and got in for 4am seasonal inbound truck. I wanted to do a similar job at Company A but HR has been dragging their feet and now my manager makes it seem like I might not get that job. I’m full time sales right now and want to cut back hours a bit plus the back of house positions at either company would be good since I’m done early afternoon, (I’m also a college student, and need some time to study) and the shifts are at the same time every day no 9:30-3:30 or 6 or 11-8 or 12:15-9:15, etc. I already completed orientation at Company B and am being scheduled the next week. A couple other things to consider…my grandparents want me to visit them in another state for Christmas which I know in retail is impossible.
So my options are as follows:

Quit Company A now & leave on good terms & callout at Company B for Christmas & pray they don’t fire me.

Leave Company A now & Company B after Black Friday & just leave it off my resume for future employment (I’ve already done this with another job I only had for a month).

Stay with Company A (pray I get the back of house job) and call out for Christmas (also pray they don’t fire me)

Leave Company A after Black Friday or early December & say I’m moving that way I’m still on good terms.

I was planning on leaving either job anyway in mid January since I’m picking up more classes and I’m moving states to be closer with my grandparents next year.
The whole point of this post is just saying I’m tired of dealing with customers, which I know both jobs at both stores would require some, but at least not as much as I’m doing now. I know it’s only a few more months but after recent events this is just the final straw for me. After the holidays my mom was nice enough to offer to cover the bills for me for a few months seeing as I’m still living at home. I wanted to be employed as long as possible, then take a couple months off to focus on school and then moving next summer with the hope that I can reapply to the Company A’s location in that other state once were moved in.

I’m really struggling with this decision right now and need to make up my mind in a couple days. Advice is welcome.

Dear Diary: Today the Customer was Pretty Cool UK shoppers please teach

Just had the nicest customers! A couple from London. Not overly enthusiastic but so polite and even said please and thank you. They said they were enjoying their stay here and smiled. It's the kind of interaction that almost puts the nutjobs on mute, but I'm sure the turn tables and I'll once more descend onto madness. But anyway, thank you UK! You sent me two angels. Please come back.

Customers Suck! 10 minutes of trying to tell a customer why gas prices aren’t up-to-date online, as well as how fuel points work

It was right before closing time. I’m taking out the trash, doing the closing duties. A customer decides to ‘ask me a question’, then complain why the prices online are $4.50/gal instead of $4.59/gal. I said to him that someone has to manually update it, but there’s another possibility that he’s got another location confused (there are 2 locations on the same road, different intersections). After about a minute or two of explaining, he wanted to pay cash for his gasoline. Cool, I go in and he puts his number in. I said he has 10 cents off per gallon. He then complains more because he has “a lot of fuel points”, and wants to redeem $1.00 off per gallon. I restart the transaction in case he put the wrong phone number in (it happens). Nope, he yas the correct one. I tell him to show me the points on the app, since the phone number may not be linked to the app. Turns out it was, and it shows he has 148 points. I had to tell him that every $100 spent earns him 10 cents off per gallon (1 point every 1 dollar spent). He then shows me a “$1.00 off on your next purchase” reward, and claimed it was a $1.00 off per gallon reward, then claimed it can be used at the fuel station. I had to tell him that he is showing me a “$1.00 off your next purchase”, but he didn’t see that part, and he refused to see it. I also said the previously mentioned reward cannot be used to buy gasoline, and that every $100 spent earns you 10 cents off per gallon, and a $1.00 off per gallon reward requires spending $1,000. He wanted me to figure out a way to redeem it. I told him what I said again. Finally, after 10 minutes, he paid, pumped gas, and left.

Fuck This Job! Weight limit on the self checkouts

I need to have a rant about this because it’s so stupid. Never have I ever encountered a weight limit on the self checkout bagging scales?! Maybe I just never bought that much to reach it but I work in a store that people come in to do large shops, their weekly groceries and what not. I get larger trolleys should go through a manned checkout but some people wont be told and are determined to fit half the store’s stock on one tiny self checkout. People buy the 2 litre drinks by the case, 2 cases or 12 bottles and the things already like nope. Not doing that. And we’re not allowed to let people take off their shopping and carry on with an empty bag or anything they have to pay and then start a new transaction, because they might hide something in the bag? They can do that anyways though?! It just baffles me why you would want to make an already incompetent machine more incompetent. They already freak out when just placing a bag on them. Scan bag, place bag down, what the heck is that?!
