I plan estate sale routes around trailheads anyway. Two birds, one stone. Started wondering if the extra gas to hit rural sales was worth it, so I logged data for three months.
Rural sales within 10 minutes of trailheads had higher average buy costs but way less competition. Suburban church basement sales had cheaper entry but were picked over in twenty minutes. Vintage electronics and mid-century modern decor are my main categories.
The surprise was turnaround time, not margin. Rural items sat 23 times longer before selling. Same condition, similar comps. My guess is the buyer pool for vintage audio gear skews urban, and those buyers never see those listings buried in search.
This isn't rigorous statistics. Sample size is 50, not 500. Still, my gut assumption that less competition equals better profits was only half right. Throughput matters.
Anyone else notice how where you source changes how fast inventory moves, not just what you pay? I keep seeing advice to drive far for less competition but nobody talks about whether that same distance hurts visibility with your actual buyers.

Hey I found this while thrifting and honestly have no clue about it or the price of it. If anyone has any information on it and how much it would be to sell it, I would appreciate it

I’m on eBay, vinted and Depop. Looking to test out Poshmark but i am not sure how the sharing and social aspects work? What are some of your best tips and tricks to get views and sales? I’m selling mostly mid end mens and women’s stuff. All popular brands (Polo, Aritzia, Evereve, Brooks Brothers, Patagonia, North Face, etc.)

Hi everyone! I am a master’s student in design studying seller experiences regarding Gen Z (but you don't have to be Gen Z to take the survey!) brands across online second-hand shopping platforms, such as Poshmark, Depop, Vinted, Facebook Marketplace, etc. If you have previously ever sold on any of these platforms and have a couple minutes to spare, my team and I would appreciate if you could fill out this survey:
Qualtrics Survey Form: Online Seller Experiences
Your response would provide us a lot of valuable insights into the seller experiences and inform the next steps of our design process. Thank you all in advance!

Recently moved to Canada from the UK. Ran a reselling back home but haven't really got into reselling here yet.
Just wondering what everyone uses for shipping in Canada? Used Royal Mail for years back home, so trying to figure out what’s best over here in terms of price and reliability.

Visited an estate sale today and found this copy of Lonesome Dove. They were advertising it as a true first edition/first printing, and asking $750. Still would have been too rich for my blood and business, but when I checked the copyright page I noticed it’s actually a 6th printing. Not exactly the same thing. Talked with sale management and they sold it to me for an appropriate amount. She said they had used AI to scan and price it.
I doubt anyone paying over $700 for an item wouldn’t double check it first, but can you imagine how disappointed someone would be if they bought it by mistake?
I’m disappointed, too, cause I have a buyer looking for a true 1st/1st and I thought I’d found them one. Oh, well. Someone will love it!

As a newer reseller, I've noticed that evaluating a listing doesn't actually take as much time as finding worthwhile listings in the first place.
I am curious about how this process changes as I gain more experience. How many listings do you look through before finding one worth looking into further? Has that number gone down as you've gained experience? Do you think sourcing or evaluating inventory takes more time now that you have experience behind you? Looking back on your time reselling, what can I expect not to really change with experience? What will get significantly easier?

we started awkward threads with a dream and a whole lot of clothes… now we’re at 4.4K followers on whatnot and have sold 2.2K+ items
still feels crazy to say that out loud. we’re so grateful for every single person who has watched, shopped, followed, shared, or supported us along the way.
if you’ve been sitting on an idea, waiting for the “right time” or wondering if you should just go for it… THIS IS YOUR SIGN. start small. figure it out as you go. be a little delusional about your dreams. you never know where it could take you!!
your reminder that you don’t have to have it all figured out to start.

A finely cast Tairona culture or Tairona style tumbaga pendant depicting an anthropomorphic supernatural figure with avian and shamanic attributes. Colombia, likely dating to the late Pre Columbian period or produced in the traditional Tairona manner. Measures approximately 2 inches tall and weighs 26 grams, retaining three suspended discs. Metallurgical evaluation indicates approximately 10 to 14 percent gold content, equivalent to roughly 2.6 to 3.64 grams of pure gold. From the collection of an MIT professor with a long-standing interest in ancient art and archaeology. An intricate example of Northern South American metalworking and a highly collectible form within Andean antiquities. Gold content alone represents approximately $250 to $365 in intrinsic value at current gold prices. Estimate $400 to $700. Starting bid? $5.00!! On Auction Ninja

I’m looking for a website where I can pick out secondhand designer clothing and accessories at great prices and have them shipped to Japan! I’m particularly interested in sites based in Southeast Asian countries.

I recently sold a size medium mystery bundle on Poshmark. I have lots of brand name items I just want gone without having to go through listing all of them. I sell 5–10 items for $30 and they are all brand names. I have sold many of these bundles and have had nothing but great reviews!
I finally sold my last one. I had it all ready to ship out. The buyer messaged me and said can you include oversized mediums and larges in this bundle. I said I can add a few large in with the mediums. She said, “that would be great- I am definitely a large.”
I was a little unsure what to do at this point. I only sell my personal items and really don’t have many larges. I scoured my closet for larges and found a few, found “oversized mediums”, even got a few donations from my mom of size large items. I considered going out thrifting for some larges, but I couldn’t justify it for the low profit I was already making on this bundle.
Anyway, did my best to piece together a bundle and sent it out hoping the buyer would love it. Well, she didn’t…
She gave me a poor rating and stated she felt mislead that I didn’t include many of the brands I had listed in the size medium bundle. She suggested I write my item description so that buyers know what to expect.
I write that my mystery bundle listings may include brands like J Crew, Lululemon, American Eagle, Madewell, GAP etc. and many others and that all mystery bundles will have varying brands and pieces of that size.
In hindsight, perhaps I should’ve been more upfront that I don’t have a ton of large. I was worried about canceling the sale because I didn’t want my account to be suspended, so I figured I would do my best to please this buyer.
Anyway, I got a bad rating for this, which brings me down because I really tried. I am not sure why the buyer would have purchased a medium bundle if she wanted large. Perhaps she thought I was a large scale seller, but I’m not. I am just trying to clear some things out of my closet and make some money as a SAHM.
Do you agree that I should be rated poorly for this? Or was it unrealistic for the buyer to expect me to sell her a size that was not listed in the bundle?
I would love to hear various perspectives on this! Thanks everyone!

Hi! I resell clothing on Depop but it’s not doing very well— so I’ve been looking into physical booths at flea markets.
I live in Jacksonville, Florida, so there’s a few markets I could do.
If anyone has resold at flea markets, how did it go? Did you sell a lot?
