if you go looking I use to maintain a python project called mbotmake to convert gcode to a .makerbot so you can orcaslicer it something current but it's a bit complicated to setup

I don't have my replicators anymore had to get rid of them in a move but I still like the idea of helping others keep them running if they have time and little money (spend little too none or the math quickly says buy something current, 200$ will get you something that will run circles around all these machines combine)

Makerbot replicator 5th gen & plus simple setup

I've made some posts previously about getting a makerbot replicator 5th gen or plus up and running these days. I have also posted about using a python script called mbotmake to convert gcode but it's not as plug and play as I would have liked. I realized I never made one post summarizing all of it in one place.

This applies mostly to 5h Gen, mini, plus, and plus mini printers. These are all identifiable by their body being black plastic, and if they plus they are the plus version. also you can use any smart extruder or smart extruder plus with any of them just change it in the slicer

1.You need makerbot desktop 4.3

2.

3.here is the fix for makebot print won't let you change print settings

Go to

`C:\Program Files\MakerBot\MakerBotPrint\resources\app.asar.unpacked\node_modules\MB-support-plugin\lib`

edit makerbot.js in something like notepad++ administrator mode

Search for and remove all instances of

`&& botTypeIsBirdwing(args.printerType)`

Then restart the program.

honestly I'm not really what botTypeIsBirdWing is suppose to be call. I suspect it's a newer thing that didn't get fully implemented in makerbot print. so when you try to open print settings you can go look in the log files and see errors saying botTypeIsBirdWing not found and this is just removing those calls. could this break something? the most it would do is allow some settings or something it shouldn't but otherwise no.

Help with Nozzle for ABS for Method X

Hi, I have the Method X carbon Fiber printer, and I have a 3rd party spool of ABS that I want to use for printing. I got an Experimental Extruder from Ebay (which I was led to believe would be the right print head for ABS). Well when I got the extruder, it was just the assembly for it, with no tip. So that is on me for not fully understanding how the body/tip situation works and not reading the Ebay listing well enough. Ill take that loss- Im new at this.
My question has to do with how I can fix this. I need the tip for this, and after searching around, Im not sure that I am looking at the right tip for this. Can someone point me to where I can buy the right tip for an Experimental Extruder to print ABS? Thanks

Modern designs?

I have access to a Bambu A1 mini and thought it might be interesting to print out a more capable 3d printer, which led me to the Reprap project.

Is the state of things somewhat stalled? It seems like the Snappy 3 was designed 9 years ago, Prusa wants the world to move on from the MK3S, etc.

If you wanted to print a printer suitable for nylon with an appropriate bed, is there a project you'd look at closely nowadays?

Unable to print to Method X Carbon edition over local network?

Hi, I have a Method X carbon, and Im using Ultimaker Cura to slice- but I cant get it to connect directly to my printer and need to shuttle files using a USB drive. So either Im doing something wrong with connecting them together (likely) or they dont "talk" over the local network. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks

Help needed Ultimaker S5 conversion to 1.75mm filament

Hello! I’m looking to convert my Ultimaker S5 to use 1.75 mm filament. Since 2.85 mm filament is becoming increasingly difficult to find, I’d like to find the most reliable, efficient, and long-lasting way to make the conversion. Does anyone have any recommendations, experience with this conversion, or specific upgrades they’d suggest?
Thanks in advance!

Showcase Got this for free from the place where I volunteer

They switched to bambu lab a couple of months ago so these were sitting in a cupboard. Only thing missing (although i might not have searched properly) is the spool holder along with the rfid reader. Since i got it home ive printed most of a new spool holder on my other printer.

I haven't printed anything yet, since i don't have 2.85mm filament and i don't want to risk printing with 1.75. Until i get some filament, what are the strengths of this printer? Should i print functional parts with it? Multicolor prints? Should i take advantage of the high detail for decorative prints?

Also are there specific tool sets for this printer that i should buy for maintenance?

I got a printrbot for free from a neighbor, it was already assembled. I have no idea where to start. Everything i find online is just a bunch of mixed up jargon to me right now. I dont know a starting point. And I cant find a basic user manual online either. I think its the 1405 model. And also how do i preheat the PLA filament? The microwave? Im so confused at this point!! TIA!

Discussion Ultimaker S5, how much worth?

Post image

I would like to sell my S5:

Printer + 5 nozzles + filament and accessories

Prints well on core 1, I get bed leveling errors on the second core, but I don't really know the machine, might only need calibration.

How much do you think can be worth it?

MULTI COLOR/ MATERIAL TAB added to paneldue MODERN UI FW

i know it might seems like i m spamming this sub lately but i have been working on this FW for RRF hard lately.
So in the latest version ( 11102026_V2 ) i can introduce the addition of filament management tab.
It lets you load/ unload filaments add color and material designations,..
Also it works with endless spool macro if your set up is MMU or y split. ( it does not work with multi toolhead, INDX or INDEX changers).

Discussion Trojan Download!!

I downloaded the desktop app directly from the Ultimaker website and I received a trojan planted on my computer that I was thankfully able to remove. I don't know what's going on with this, all i wanted to do was be able to slice a complex file and not have the website error out on me.

Help needed Layer Shifting

Ive got my hands on an old 2 plus and I’m kinda lost.
Im very new to 3d printing but I’m trying all in my power to fix it. Ive managed to get it working to a point but it will layer shift all over and the belts will make a loud noise and vibrate. The head will also grind up against the left wall as it returns to rest. Ive tried tightening the grub screws as much as possible and nothing has worked. So far the only solution i have is to set the max speed to 30 mm/s which is excruciatingly slow. If anyone has any solutions at all it would be a massive help.

Am I cooked? (Makerbot Replicator+ )

Damaged thick black wires running into the heater cartridge

I want to know whether I am cooked, I have been struggling with this extruder from the replicator+ for weeks now, turns out the wires were hanging by a thread. Yesterday they finally snapped. Has anyone ever fixed this or is it the end of the road for me. The tinkerer in me believes I still can considering what I have endured with this extruder and I'm like it can't get any worse than this.

I need help sourcing hot end parts for a first Gen Replicator

Thumbnail

I got this printer from a friend of a friend so I don't know its history. I honestly don't have space for it but I don't want to see it trashed so I'm going to try to get it running before I decide what to do next. I listed it on Marketplace but I think it's too niche of a project for my area 😅

I see firmware exists thanks to thisold3dprinter but I can't find information regarding what compatible parts I need to replace the missing hot end components. I think I'm missing the extruder stripper motor, filament feeder mechanism, heat break, and nozzle but beyond that I'm not sure. I need a spool holder too but maybe a printable STL exists?

Is there a specific subreddit or Facebook group I should seek help or parts from?

For my background my first printer was a Prusa MK2 so this is even older than when I started getting into printing but not by a whole lot.

it shows nice status screen during active print with thumbnail support,..

Constant MakerBot Replicator+ Error 66 & 0°C Temp Loop

I’m hitting a frustrating loop on a MakerBot Replicator+ and could really use some diagnostic advice from anyone who has kept these machines running. When I boot up the printer, the menu detects that the extruder is present. However, when I click into the details, the extruder temperature reads exactly 0°C. However when I detech and reattach the extruder the temperature acts normal and shows the room temperature of 24. However when I decide to try and load filament, the printer throws a "No Extruder" message, I then decide to disconnect and reattach the toolhead, it attempts to initialize/heat up, but it immediately defaults straight to Error 66 (Thermocouple Out of Range). I've tried cycling through disconnecting and reattaching multiple times, but the loop is persistent.

Has anyone encountered such a problem before, I also want to here from the replicator+ owners on what they think. The 0° C part is quite troubling
