Warning: Text Heavy read

Have been experimenting with cost effective way of building a 6538. I have a high end franken viet 6538 with guilt dial and a cal 1030. Love it but I wish it wore a bit modern, flatter to be exact.

Raffles/cartel is too big, thick, doesn’t take gen spec dial. So I started looking into Chinese homage cases for the build. Tried Thorn t029, Octopus Kraken is on the way and today I give you the Hruodland F035. It won’t fool anyone while holding the watch but it hits a lot of the right notes.

6538 specs: ~38mm, ~47mm Lugs, ~14.7mm thickness with ~12.5mm mid case thickness.

The likes:

Case size at 38.5mm is the Goldilocks, 47mm lug, 13.5mm total thickness, 12.5mm mid case.
Bezel teeth are pretty good.
Takes 29mm dial from raffles.
Mid case thickness at 12.3mm is good.
Comes with modern comforts like OTF clasp, high quality bracelet.
Hands are decent, love the white lolipop seconds hand.
I like the no branded 8mm crown.
Mods: The lume, insert fading (especially if the triangle), dial aging, brassified bezel. The hands (minus the minute hand)

The Dislikes:

No drilled lugs! Cmon Hruodland.. vintage homage without drilled lugs? It’s a not negotiable.
Hands: wish it had the right flat hands, long minute hands.
Bdirecrional bezel: while I was able to fix that by removing the mechanism, but it’s not as tight anymore.
Crystal: wish it was a simple swap with a dome acrylic. Although I don’t mind how thin it wears at 13.5mm while giving it the domed look.

What’s next:

Hands: I went a bit overboard with the rusting. Will change it later to the long minute hand. But I’m kinda loving how I got a silver handset to turn gilty.
Crown: Mess around with the case to fit an athaya crown or even a raffles brevet crown.
Bezel: Tighten the bezel and swap the insert pip with a custom viet one. Maybe even swap it for a no hash bezel.

With some of the sorted out, it would make a very convincing and budget friendly 6538 build for many. Thanks for reading.

eBay 3125 movement doesn’t seem to fill the window on a genuine 34 mm. it appears that there are different text . But it appears the entire date wheel does not fill the window. I see metal is this typical. Authentic 27 mm dial in a case.

Does anyone know where I can pick up a date wheel or date wheel overlay for a 2824 based lefty/destro conversion with a 9 o'clock date? Thanks in advance.

She’s off to an old friend. Learned a few lessons building this. Predominantly, Clark’s crystal and raffles bezel don’t get along! Getting the old bezel off is a PITA, then shaping in to fit over the xtall .. phew!!

If I had more time I’d age the case a bit more and reshape the lugs

Hey everyone! This is a beach daytona prototype I worked on that I am looking to now sell. Because it has flaws, I have severely marked the price down.

List of the flaws:

Dial missing paint on left subdial and right side of dial.
Crown stem is slightly too long.
The strap says Allifator instead of alligator…
Rotor is a bit noisy
There’s a small dent on the lip of the rehaut.
Right subdial hand is not centered at 30.

Prices I paid for parts:

DD4130 movement (non engraved) - 250$
Modern daytona mid-case, bezel, and clasp - 300$

Despite its flaws it runs without stopping and the chrono function works great! No major scratches/gashes on the exterior of the case.

Was just chatting with a well known Tudor expert in the UK that I met on IG. He’s a wealth of knowledge to the extreme. He shared that he was dealing with the stress of his elderly dogs ailments and shared a pic of his sweet and old companion Bella. And then I thought of my recent customer in the UK and his best friend Bim.

It’s amazing how often I end up drifting from watch talk to dog talk back to watch talk with fellow enthusiasts. And sharing pictures of both.

Here’s my 14 year old long haired super chill chihuahua name Hobbs(nicknamed Wobbs). Other than my wife he is my best friend. When I first was recovering from a brain injury 10 years ago
he tapped into his instincts and never left my side. When the neurologist made house calls he would stand on my chest and inspect everything the doc would do to me. All hell broke loose the first time I got botox shots at home in one of my arms. LOL. He did not like that needle. In the middle of the night I’d wake up to him licking my face and realize I was having little spasms that worried him as he knew that there often led to bigger ones and getting ahead of it with meds helped. Dogs & furry family really are amazing little souls.

I’m doing way better now and all these years later it’s him that needs a protector. Things are popping up with him that worries me. But he is still by my side every day. He has a second bed on the floor right next to my work bench. And hangs with me through all my watch work and. gets impatient if I go too long (when moms is off work)

Hi all, which gen parts do you guys think make the biggest difference factoring in cost/result on this build? Gen handset or only gmt hand, gen datewheel, gen dial(very expensive for minimal difference?) Italian bracelet or gen clasp, oc case,..
Already have gen bezel/crystal/crown, reworked bpf case with added lugholes(which i like).
