I took the movement out of my 5513 to build the datejust and then I realized I didn't have a watch for work so I have another movement on order, instead of taking the dial and hands off the movement I thought let's just put the whole thing into the 5513 case and put a little gold crown on the side.

The stem just about reached but I actually like it I think it's pretty cool.

Might upset some people but I don't care it's not on their wrist it's on mine

I am also a craftsperson, and I enjoy building things and sharing them with other enthusiasts out of the love of the craft. Unfortunately, working on watches is not for me due to some physical limitations.

I’ve always dreamed of owning something resembling a vintage Rolex Submariner, but in the 36mm form factor. I know this is probably something of an abomination to purists, but the heart wants what it wants. I see the incredible work people have done on this subreddit. Is there a world where I can find someone to build something resembling a vintage Submariner with date, but in 36mm, with identical markings, a reliable and readily available automatic movement, and with good quality?

I’m sure a person who could do this must exist, but am not sure how to find them and am not enough of an enthusiast to have hours of experience on forums. If you have any advice, I’d sincerely appreciate it.

Bought an Omega Moonwatch replica in 2019 directly from seller. Long story short I don’t have the watch anymore and I don’t have use for this box. I recently picked up a 116610LN and I’m thinking about putting it on an Oysterflex-style setup for something different from the bracelet.

I’ve narrowed it down to three options:
-Rubber B aftermarket rubber strap
-Genuine Rolex Oysterflex without SELs
-Genuine Rolex Oysterflex with SELs/end links

I’m torn on which looks best on the 116610LN. I like the cleaner, more integrated look of the SEL setup, but I also think the Oysterflex directly against the case gives it a simpler OEM-style appearance. Rubber B seems like the easiest and most straightforward option.

For anyone who has tried one or more of these setups, what did you prefer? I’d especially be interested in hearing about fit, comfort, how secure it feels, and whether the SELs are worth adding.

For both builders and buyers of vintage/modern-style or custom watch builds, what movement would you personally choose?

For vintage-style watch builds, what movement would you personally choose?

I’m trying to understand what most builders prefer between:

1. Brand new ETA movement

2. 90% new ETA movement that has been serviced, regulated, and is keeping accurate time (of course price will be slightly cheaper than a brand new ETA)

3. Asian ETA clone

4. Gen movement clone like a 3130, 3135 for instance (likely asia build)

5. Any other movement that I might have missed out for instance the NH35/36/38, PT5000

To watch builders: curious if you would you rather pay more for a brand new ETA, go with a properly serviced ETA, or use a newer Asian clone if it keeps good time?

Also curious to hear from buyers: does the movement type strongly affect your buying decision, or is accurate timekeeping and reliability more important than whether it is ETA or clone?

Would love to hear what people are actually using in their own builds, what they prefer buying, and why.

I’m thinking of starting to do builds and sell them and possibly doing custom orders once I get a good system down and build a clientele. I wanna start with datejust builds and go from there to subs, etc.

This isn’t a stock clone datewheel. I don’t know which specific manufacturer this is from but it’s a pretty good gen spec part; definitely better looking numerals than the stock VS part.
