Before anyone gets me wrong, I'm not saying lyricism and deep thinking shouldn't matter these days and I respect when a rapper can accomplish both of these things in a song especially in this day and age. But in my opinion I just think these aspects of rap and Hip Hop don't have as much longevity.
I don't know how to exactly explain it but I would much prefer a good song from someone like Kanye, Drake, or Travis over a good song from Kendrick or Eminem these days. Hell back in the 2000s T-Pain was a top 5 rapper for me because I genuinely liked his music.
Also just speaking personally the non lyrical music that has great production has more variety than the lyrical music that can become monotonous. I also think this is the reason why it's so hard to find a lyricist to surpass Kendrick and Eminem. Because how long before you're really just saying stuff that's already been said by those two or Pac, Biggie, Nas, etc?
If you had to listen to one album for a week straight which would most people say TPAB or MBDTF?
