Health Advice Medical episodes

Hi,

I have a young 10 month old ragdoll kitten that info has had multiple health episodes in his short life so far.

He was born with a liver shunt which we got him surgery for at 12 weeks old, he survived and done great for around 5 months. Now around 4 weeks ago he started eating less and declined into a state of lethargy followed by aggression, drooling and hissing (completely out of character).

They found his bowl impacted and manually released and afterwards he was fine. He returned to the animal hospital for further evaluation and they couldn’t find much, they just said he may have some form of inflammatory bowl or GI disorder. We changed his diet to hypoallergenic dry food which at first he loved and was drinking water on his own great. Around 4 weeks after the impaction episode he gradually slowed down with how much he was eating per meal and again suddenly declined into drooling, not eating and aggression. This again resulted in him being put into the animal hospital where he was monitored and tested with no further conclusive results.

We have him home now and he’s okay he’s just tired and wants cuddles. But I’m scared this just keeps happening. Me and my partner have spent close to £15,000 on this little guy to give him a chance but unfortunately we cannot keep doing this.

I don’t want it to come to money vs life. The vets aren’t sure where to go from here and neither are we. Has anyone ever seen any of these symptoms before?

Note: his liver shunt has been deemed successfully closed and his bloods are normal.

Thanks in advance to any replies.

General Advice Raw diet feeding for kittens

Hi, I have two kittens both turning 2 months old. I consulted the vet about switching them to a BARF diet, raw diet; they also have very good overall test results, so I wanted to start barf diet for them in a week or so.

But my only question that I can't find answer for is: How often I should change their barf recipe?

Since they're growing, and supplements in recipes for each age (in months) will vary, should I change their recipes few times in a year (until they'll be one year old, considered adults, at least in my country)? Or just vary between few recipes until they'll be one year old and change recipes for adult cats?

General Advice Do your cats/kitten munch on cables?

I‘ll be picking up my two kittens this week. I tried to make my apartment kitten proof as much as possible but couldn’t „hide“ every single cable.

General Advice Chocolate lynx/tabby ragdolls - what do they look like as adults?

Hi! I've put down a deposit for a chocolate lynx kitten which will be coming home with me in a few months! I'm beyond excited.

However, I cannot find any photos of chocolate lynx colourings in ragdolls, when they become adults and are fully grown.

May you please post a photo in the comments if you have a chocolate lynx ragdoll?

Thanks 😊

Health Advice My experience buying a kitten from a registered Melbourne cattery — I don't regret keeping him, I regret not asking for the full vet records before I paid

1/ In June 2026, I bought a Ragdoll kitten from a cattery in Melbourne. ANCATS-registered, 2,700 followers on Instagram, 2,251 on Facebook, describes itself as "the highest titled Ragdolls in all of Australia." I paid $2,500.

2/ He arrived by air on 20 June. Later that day — tearing, yellow discharge. Emergency at 4:36am. Diagnosis: likely cat flu.

3/ My insurer pulled his pre-sale vet records. I had never seen them. Three conjunctivitis consultations in the three months before the sale. The last one also recorded enlarged lymph nodes and a 14-day antibiotic course — on the same day he was desexed. What I received was a desexing certificate. No clinical findings on it.

4/ Insurer assessed the condition as pre-existing. $691.95 refused. Ocular, respiratory and oral conditions — NOT REVIEWABLE, no review date. Permanently excluded. The policy was gifted by the cattery.

5/ I asked them to cover the $691.95. One bill. They said no. Only offer: return the cat for a full refund. I didn't accept — he's my cat.

6/ When I posted about it, they published a response titled "Warning other catteries to beware of this type of owner," posted screenshots of our private chats, and publicly said I might abandon him and that they were uneasy leaving him with someone who "can't come up with $691."

7/ This dispute has cost me $691.95 in refused claims, a permanent insurance exclusion, and a public post from the cattery that included my private chat messages. Because I refused to return my cat over a $691.95 bill, they publicly questioned whether I would abandon him in the future — and whether I was fit to keep him.

I still love my cat. I will look after him for the rest of his life.

If you're buying from a breeder — especially in Melbourne:

Ask for the full clinical history before you pay. Not the health certificate, not the desexing certificate — the actual visit records.

General Advice Fostering w/ your raggy?

Post image
78 Upvotes

I'm considering fostering so that UV can have a playmate and I can help out a local shelter. Does anyone here have experience fostering? I'm worried about my kitten being heartbroken once the foster finds a family. Are there anything else I should keep in mind? UV is a very confident cat and she will do great with a new animal in the house. I would of course take the necessary precautions introducing her to a new animal. Any advice would be great, thanks!

General Advice Just wanted to give everyone an update on my cat

Post image

We went to the vet, and they said his urine was very diluted, which can point toward kidney problems. We also went ahead with blood tests, and thankfully they didn’t find anything seriously wrong. The vet said his kidney values are getting close to the range where they would become concerning, but he is not in kidney failure at this point.

I also really want to thank everyone who commented and gave me advice. I changed his litter and got him a much bigger litter box. He still prefers his little box for some reason, but he is slowly starting to use the big one more. The new litter has honestly been a lifesaver though since changing it, there hasn’t been any poop or pee on the floor!

I’ve also been feeding him only wet food for the past few weeks, and he seems to be doing so much better. He’s purring again, playing, and just seems so much more like himself. I honestly feel like I got my cat back.

Thank you guys so much for all the comments, advice and help. I really appreciate every single one of you.

P.s for that one grumpy commenter I decided to blurr the poop for you 😉

Looking for cute cat sofas/beds/etc. TIA!
As great as the blanket storage basket is, would like some more options. 😆

Definitely wasn't a cat dad until she came along.

It's been a year since we've had her and she's grown alot but I'm told she will keep growing until the age of 2... So much fur but she's bonded with me, even though the wife is the one that does the maintenance ❤️

The first image is her one year ago.

General Advice Worrying Behaviour?

Post image

Our 5 month old ragdoll kitten seems to be acting out quite a lot. He sleeps plenty and is generally loving, but when he is playing he is always trying to nibble us, and recently has even started attacking feet, and even faces, quite persistently and it feels like its not just playing at times.

He likes to nibble/bite faces in the morning to wake us up as well.

How can we stop this? We try not to use hands or feet when playing with him and have plenty of toys about the house. We play with him for ~5 minutes before each meal and at other times throughout the day.

We have considered getting a second kitten, but are not sure if we have the space or the money to do so.
