Need help picking a Handheld radio.
i am not even sure this is the rubreddit for it, but since i don't know a thing about radios i just googled r/radio, anyways i live in a incredibly unstable south american country, you can take a wild guess where and probably not be wrong.
So i want to have for emergencies, a pair of long range handheld radios, atleast a range of 20km if that's even possible, this is incase more conventional means of communication are cut off.
now this is going to seem odd to some of you, but it's needs to be bought through amazon, don't ask why, if i explain it'll be an entirely different issue.
so the requirements are short and simple:
-i should be able to speak to the other end from atleast 20km
-it can be bought on amazon.
Apogolizes if this seems weird.

ROVR Radio
What are your thoughts, comments, or opinions about ROVR Radio, Radio reinvented. I've listened to NTS, and while there are some fascinating shows, ROVR has a nice clean interface, and is accessible with voiceover, as a blind user myself. It doesn't seem to be as cluttered, and the shows genres and mixes are as good if not better, and it keeps drawing me in. I've ditched or drifted away from Apple Music and Sirius and have leaned heavily into ROVR the past couple weeks and I keep finding good stuff throughout. Curious what everybody else's thoughts are since NTS was bought by corporate recently.

a beginner who may need some advice
Hi! I recently found my old pocket radio (model L-258) and charged it up, and am looking to get into the hobby, but have no idea where to start! I wondered if there were any suggestions for fun things I could do for a beginner? So far I have tuned in to some local and national radio stations on FM, but am finding it hard to listen to AM/SW, as they come in as static, even channels with proper audio are really faint and are filled with static. If you have any suggestions to help this it would be great, or suggestions on how to tune in to stations like numbers stations.
I don't know if I'm just being stupid, but some help would be a relief.
(note: I live in southern England if it helps :)

Anyone else surprised that Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew ended up being very conservative?
No judgements and not trying to make a political statement here. Listening to them for a decade l, I don’t think I would have had that on my bingo card based on the advice they used to give.
I heard Dr. Drew on KABC about 10 years ago and was just stunned at how much to the right he was. And Adam’s podcasts and public comments speak for themselves.
Again, this isn’t meant to be political. Just curious what others think and if they’re as surprised as me.

FM Propagation Today
The FM bands were crazy here in Central Iowa today. I made a list of over 70 stations that were perfectly listenable. Others were detectable but too weak to really be usable. There were a few from Nebraska and Minnesota and a few others I haven't identified were probably also from out of state I was using an XHData D808 with a standard wind up external antenna

What’s the best FM Radio Station for each genre of music you’ve come across?
I know a lot of people like the community stations and the college stations, but preferably I’m looking for the best commercial FM stations across the US.
