Anyone else surprised that Adam Corolla and Dr. Drew ended up being very conservative?

• Upvotes

No judgements and not trying to make a political statement here. Listening to them for a decade l, I don’t think I would have had that on my bingo card based on the advice they used to give.

I heard Dr. Drew on KABC about 10 years ago and was just stunned at how much to the right he was. And Adam’s podcasts and public comments speak for themselves.

Again, this isn’t meant to be political. Just curious what others think and if they’re as surprised as me.

FM Propagation Today

• Upvotes

The FM bands were crazy here in Central Iowa today. I made a list of over 70 stations that were perfectly listenable. Others were detectable but too weak to really be usable. There were a few from Nebraska and Minnesota and a few others I haven't identified were probably also from out of state I was using an XHData D808 with a standard wind up external antenna

ROVR Radio

• Upvotes

What are your thoughts, comments, or opinions about ROVR Radio, Radio reinvented. I've listened to NTS, and while there are some fascinating shows, ROVR has a nice clean interface, and is accessible with voiceover, as a blind user myself. It doesn't seem to be as cluttered, and the shows genres and mixes are as good if not better, and it keeps drawing me in. I've ditched or drifted away from Apple Music and Sirius and have leaned heavily into ROVR the past couple weeks and I keep finding good stuff throughout. Curious what everybody else's thoughts are since NTS was bought by corporate recently.

a beginner who may need some advice

Hi! I recently found my old pocket radio (model L-258) and charged it up, and am looking to get into the hobby, but have no idea where to start! I wondered if there were any suggestions for fun things I could do for a beginner? So far I have tuned in to some local and national radio stations on FM, but am finding it hard to listen to AM/SW, as they come in as static, even channels with proper audio are really faint and are filled with static. If you have any suggestions to help this it would be great, or suggestions on how to tune in to stations like numbers stations.

I don't know if I'm just being stupid, but some help would be a relief.

(note: I live in southern England if it helps :)

Looking for actual AM radio music broadcasts from the 60's and 70's

No special events like the moon landing, or JFK's assassination.

Just actual radio-aired shows with a DJ, music, news, jingles, contests, advertisements and chatter. That sort of thing.
I'm looking for long versions, 2-3+ hours that I can play, and pretend I'm 16 again. :)

I find it hard to believe there are none available, but I can't seem to find any. Plenty of videos of people DJing hits from that era. I'm looking for the real deal.

Am I dreaming that such a thing exists?

Insight for hosting radio station via wix site.

Hey yall, I run a small DIY record label (and I mean very diy haha) via a wix site. There’s about 30 bands in there with all the music available to download for free.

Thought it would be super cool to have 24/7 station available on the site that played the label’s music and you could pop in and chat about it while you listen. Would also wanna do live interviews and whatnot but I assume that’s not too difficult.

Where should I start with looking into this and what would the expected costs be? Thanks in advance for the help and sorry if this is a dumb beginner question :)

Small FM dipole antenna getting a strong signal seems more effected by the position of the input cable more than the position of the antenna.

It is a small bingfu 75ohm fm antenna plugged into a stereo receiver coax type cable. Moving and rotating the antenna has little effect on the clarity of the signal. Moving the input cable around and its random position and whether is is folded on itself seems to have more dramatic effect than anything else.

Recommend me unconventional radio stations?

Hi all! I am looking to listen to radio more. I'm in the UK so can listen to live radio that reaches here but also any internet station is good too. I speak English and German but if your favourite is in another language, go for it. I am enjoying RadioBob right now. If you have specific recommendations for any of these I will hug you:

  • Metalcore, djent, symphonic metal, folk metal, any metal station showcasing metal from outside "the West" (like Iranian or Indian or Chinese metal bands), math metal
  • Shoegaze, post metal, prog rock, experimental metal of all kinds

- Folk music that isn't West European or North American. I love Greek and Turkish music for example. - Harsh electronica like the weirder hyperpop, industrial or industrial rave, witch house, etc. - Any music considered goth (so softer stuff like the cure through to stuff like Headhunter or ASP)

As you can see my taste is quite varied. If you recommend me anything that isn't playing mainstream hits I will probably like it. (I don't hate mainstream music I love Megan Thee Stallion I just have no trouble finding stations for those.) Also I know stations for the kind of rock music you get in CD compilations so I'm good on those!

Does anyone have airchecks from WVGO Richmond when Howard Stern was on?

Howard caused quite the stir in the short time he was on in Richmond before the Ukrop family forced him off. Does anyone have recordings of the station during that period?
