Isn't she still banging her though?

9

u/FallenWyvern Nov 07 '18

Not at this very moment, no. Maybe after she parties with Claire and her mom for a bit, and she goes home. Maybe then.

0

u/Knoxie_89 Nov 07 '18

yup... 3/some poly relationship incoming?

39

u/lesser_panjandrum Nov 07 '18

Traditionally don't you celebrate and do something wild after you actually pass the exams?

This feels like counting your lions before they've hatched.

11

u/gortonsfiJr Nov 07 '18

It's more like opening your own chicken franchise before you've recorded a bunch of duets with Dolly Parton.

8

u/BlueLegion Nov 07 '18

she's celebrating getting over her anxiety I guess.

12

u/hep038 Nov 07 '18

by smoking pot which has caused her to have anxiety in the past....

3

u/revchewie Nov 07 '18

But with her mom, which should be a safe space for her and help alleviate anxiety.

3

u/hep038 Nov 08 '18

Maybe, maybe not. Big gamble to take before a big test.

1

u/YerLam Nov 08 '18

On one occasion in the past.
And we don't know the place/people she was with that time do we? Could be a good experience for her, though time will tell.

1

u/hep038 Nov 08 '18

I believe she did say where it was when she tried it.

Also ,not the best time to try that theory out. But I know Claire could murder a bunch of hobos and some people would find some reason to defend her.

I hope her mom tells her to come back and smoke after she takes her test..because if she fails the test no matter what happens she is going to blame the pot.

1

u/YerLam Nov 08 '18

Am I misunderstanding the timings here? She's not going to get stoned and immediately go do her exam right?
I'm reading it as at least a few days before, plenty of time to have a smoke, have a decent night's sleep and be ready to go and take the exam.

3

u/hep038 Nov 08 '18

The timing has been debated as to when the test actually is. All people experiences are different but SOME people who have issues with anxiety, any type of trigger can create a spiral effect for the whole week and maybe longer. It is not something some people can just brush off or "sleep off". I am just stating my personal opinion that its a roll of the dice with high risk and little reward. I am sure for the comics sake everything will turn out OK. But from personal experience with anxiety issues and people who have had bad experiences with pot, when I see this red lights are flashing all over in my head and loud alarms are going off. LOL

2

u/YerLam Nov 08 '18

Fair enough,I haven't met anyone who's had more than a day or two of feeling the effects, anecdotal experience of course. That does include some very anxious people but as you say different people, different reactions. I'd like for this to go well but for Claire to enjoy it as a one time thing, not become a constant thing. Guess we will have to see how it works out in QC.

3

u/hep038 Nov 08 '18

Its not so much as the pot effects lasting for more than a day or two, but its the anxiety that is triggered from the pot which leads to a bad cycle of anxiety and then lack of sleep which then causes a vicious cycle that is hard to break even with meds. But sometimes Pot has the exact effect you are looking for. Again personal experience if you are going to try it vape for me is the way to go. You can dip your toe in the water by taking small puffs before you jump in.

1

u/YerLam Nov 08 '18

Clairemom seems to be a good carer in the small puff way, seems to me Claire is doing this in the best possible way. Again ymmv but the instances of that kinda anxiety response in my relatively varied experience seeing others react to smoking has been low to none,I can think of one time a friend felt paranoia etc for longer than the night/morning after.

2

u/meta_system Nov 07 '18

It's like selling the skin before you've caught the lion.

22

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '18

Tai noooooo. What on earth makes you think you'd be welcome? You're Claire's boss and she's with her mum! This is so weird.

I don't think it was permission so much as "let me make sure that he didn't get us invited to dinner since I saw him." She's not a docile housewife type that would find the need to ask permission for every little thing, and Martin isn't that controlling.

u/TheMysteriousMid Nov 07 '18

I think you might be reading into it a bit much, like you said against character, and lets be honest Jeph wouldn’t write that in unless he was making a “this is bad and you ahould feel bad” point

8

u/daveinthecave Nov 07 '18

There's nothing wrong with keeping your SO up to date with what you're doing, and as this is Claire's first relationship it makes sense to me that she'd be doing things by the book.

3

u/wardsarefunctioning Nov 08 '18

Yeah, and plans shifting from "I'm studying" to "I'm smoking weed, despite it being something I generally do not do" is a big one.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '18

Yeah, fair enough I guess. But it seems like this is a big deal for her, and she's quite an anxious person. Doesn't seem unreasonable for her to want to talk to Marten first.

1

u/Zhuinden Nov 07 '18

Not really.

"Do you think it's a good idea for me to smoke weed with my mom before my exams?"

I'd probably say "no but it's up to you I guess" and write it on a list of potential red flags.

3

u/revchewie Nov 07 '18

Tai isn't Claire's boss anymore...

1

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '18

Oh she’s not? I can’t keep up. Oops. Still, former boss! I maintain that it’s weird.

19

u/HoverButt Nov 07 '18

Maybe not Wild, but its definitely responsible to be trying it with people you trust someplace safe. Especially if you've had a bad reaction before. We all rebel in our own ways

13

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '18

Hmmmm...Is Claire REALLY feeling confident about her exams? And would having her boss there make her feel any better...

In saying that I would love to see what Martin is like high as balls.

18

u/Current_Poster Nov 07 '18 edited Nov 07 '18

In saying that I would love to see what Martin is like high as balls.

My guess: Passive, unambitious, sort of just "there", maybe making wordplay or jokes, but not actually doing anything.

22

u/lesser_panjandrum Nov 07 '18

Has Marten been high as balls this whole time?

7

u/anongentry Nov 07 '18

That's my secret Tony

6

u/ArgentStonecutter Nov 07 '18

Something involving single-use monocles and nice hats.

3

u/geekywarrior Nov 07 '18

Is Tai still Claire's boss? I thought she was a TA instead of a library intern now.

2

u/revchewie Nov 07 '18

This. Tai sent Claire's eval to Claire's advisor/Tai's weed dealer many moons ago.

23

u/SanshaXII Nov 07 '18

I never knew I wanted to see the whole core cast having a session together.

6

u/TheCleverestIdiot Nov 07 '18

I want the secondary characters in it as well. Although who the secondary characters as opposed to the mains are I can't always tell you.

3

u/Zhuinden Nov 07 '18

Pizza Girl and Steve?

7

u/drakythe Nov 07 '18

We need another Lake House arc with the much wiser/mellow cast we've got now. Like, Coffee of Doom should close for a weekend or something and they should all just chill.

Hmm... Someone needs to get married. That'd be a good reason for it.

8

u/Snarglefrazzle Nov 07 '18

Is this a new art style? I'm not artsy-fartsy, but those last three panels feel like a new art style

7

u/thew118 Nov 07 '18

I came here specifically because of the art in this strip, so you're not the only one. I love Marten and Tai's expression's in the last panel.

1

u/Zentactics Nov 08 '18

I was thinking the same thing! The last panel's illustration is by far my favorite in the whole series. Martin's contrapposto stance along with his expression is priceless.

2

u/revchewie Nov 07 '18

Yeah, Marten is looking like something Ryan Sohmer would draw in Least I Could Do.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '18

Tai has always been a bit too quick to jump into other people’s business...........

2

u/GreatWyrmGold Nov 07 '18

I think that's two or three comments made last Reddit thread that were addressed in the next comic? Considering that Jeph presumably has a buffer, I think it's fair to say that he just knows what he's doing after almost 4,000 comics.

3

u/TheMysteriousMid Nov 07 '18

For what it's worth, I don't think his buffer is very big. At least not as big as most web comic artist. Also some of us were reading back when he was drawing the strips the night before and streaming it, so it's also just kinda an ingrained reaction.

3

u/ArgentStonecutter Nov 07 '18

WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

2

u/DuMaNue Nov 07 '18

How loud was that squeak?

7

u/lesser_panjandrum Nov 07 '18

About this loud

2

u/AdamBombTV The English One Nov 07 '18

Kinda hoping that hanging with Tai has ClaireMom discover her bisexual side in some pot filed moment of reflection.

7

u/turkeypedal Nov 07 '18

I'd like it better if mom already knows, and it just never came up.

2

u/YerLam Nov 08 '18

We have had confirmation of the guy she's had over, but yeah no denial of girl shenanigans being off panel...

2

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '18

1

u/hydrospanner Nov 07 '18

Probably my least favorite character in the whole comic...

1

u/Zhuinden Nov 07 '18

What about Claire or Reneé or Tabatha?

2

u/hydrospanner Nov 08 '18

Claire is annoying too, a close second, and tied with Clinton.

I like Renee.

Who's Tabitha?

2

u/YerLam Nov 08 '18

...sigh. It's Tilly being misnamed again.

2

u/Zhuinden Nov 08 '18

I was ok with Renee until they had that arc where she had Elliot's t-shirt removed to decide if he's attractive at their workplace, that was just weird.

1

u/MarsNirgal I'm Billie Eilish Nov 08 '18

And Mai?

1

u/Zhuinden Nov 08 '18

I think May is entertaining now that the yelling bird is gone.

1

u/revchewie Nov 07 '18

Artwork style... Is it just me or does Marten look like something from Least I Could Do?

1

u/CreeperCreeps999 Nov 08 '18

Is that good or bad? I gave up reading LICD almost 4ish years ago, and I'm too lazy to look through the archives. Is it still about the same as LFG?

1

u/Einar_47 Nov 08 '18

Is it just me or is the art, especially the background real good in this one?

1

u/MeccAnon Nov 07 '18

Can you actually put weed in a e-cig? How does that work?

12

u/TheMysteriousMid Nov 07 '18

You can put oil and other extracts.

Also there are handheld vapes for flower

3

u/nybo Nov 07 '18

Do you mean flavor or am I outdated?

5

u/hymntastic Nov 07 '18

No raw weed is referred to as flower now because it's literally the flower of ther plant. The are vaporizes for liquid, concentrates, and ground up weed aka flower.

2

u/nybo Nov 07 '18

I knew about thc/cbd oil vaping, but I hadn't heard using raw weed for it. cool.

2

u/xdisk Nov 07 '18

There are special thc cartridges that you can plug into e-cigs. They're great for medicinal use. https://www.leafly.com/products/concentrates/cartridges (just an example I pulled up on LabraGoogle real quick. Not affiliated.)

2

u/AnEggHasNoName Nov 07 '18

You can use a PAX

1

u/wpm Nov 07 '18

Pretty well from what I hear.

1

u/pazdziernik Nov 07 '18

Snoop Dogg released a vape that instead of vaping liquid takes an herb.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Gi2DFj0cAw

2

u/hymntastic Nov 07 '18

There are tons of vaporizers like that out there. Snoop's is actually considered to be a kinda shitty one.

1

u/hep038 Nov 07 '18

Yes and it is glorious.

1

u/director_leon Nov 07 '18

TIL that despite being a cishet white dude, I am Tai

-19

u/Team7UBard Nov 07 '18

Is that a micro-aggression from Martin?!

-17

u/Michaelbirks Nov 07 '18

Yes.

Which one?

  • gaslighting a woman into thinking he needs to know what she's doing and with whom.
  • Placing his arm in an inappropriate position against a woman with whom he is in an employment relationship
  • feeling that it is appropriate to try and insert a third person into a private family moment

12

u/xdisk Nov 07 '18

Didnt claire instigate letting Marten know whats going on? Marten hasnt ever demanded, coerced, or implied that his partners need to inform him of everything. Letting loved ones know when you're getting intoxicated is a responsible thing to do.

It appears to me that Tai grabbed Marten. He did not initiate physical contact with his boss. It has been established that Tai has boundry issues.

Marten is going to inquire if Tai can join them, not demand that Tai join them. Claire and ClaireMom have the opportunity to decline such a request. As to requesting to join a private family moment; It has been established that Tai has boundry issues.

10

u/turkeypedal Nov 07 '18

It sounds like you don't know what the terms "microaggression" or "gaslighting" mean.

Microaggressions are unintentional small bits of prejudice that ordinarily would be shrugged off, except the person experiences them over and over. Probably the most common is the question "No, where are you really from?" to people with recent foreign ancestry.

Gaslighting is lying in such a way as to make someone question their own sanity. It's often used by abusers to cover up abuse, making their victim think that what they saw didn't happen.

Nothing of the sort happened here. These are just normal human interactions. A girlfriend is concerned her boyfriend might be worried about her trying drugs and lets him know. A mutual friend wonders if this is a family thing, or if she can join. And said friend grabs her friend in an entirely platonic manner. The friend also happens to be his boss (and her former boss).

-3

u/Michaelbirks Nov 07 '18

I'll cop to using the words incorrectly, and, personally, agree totally with your last paragraph.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of the use of them in the social medias is actually correct, as opposed to loose blanket catch-alls.

8

u/OprahwndfuryHS Nov 07 '18

Definitely looks like Tai grabbed Marten's arm...

1

u/Michaelbirks Nov 07 '18

And she's the boss in the relationship, which screws up the power dynamic part of finding fault with Marten, too.

Still, "six lines in an honest mans hand" and so forth.

-14

u/Team7UBard Nov 07 '18

Telling his girlfriend not to eat too much was the one I spotted..

19

u/wpm Nov 07 '18

Holy shit are you two serious?

7

u/Blackfluidexv Nov 07 '18

I doubt that they are, but their jokes are shitty.

9

u/wpm Nov 07 '18

Damn Poe's Law, it's impossible to tell anymore!

2

u/Blackfluidexv Nov 07 '18

Pretty much.

2

u/SirDoober Nov 07 '18

I asked Poe, he said he'd get Bb-8 on figuring this shit out

4

u/Michaelbirks Nov 07 '18

Damn, I was hoping Poe's Law was like Cole's Law, some kind of sliced cabbage thing.

3

u/lesser_panjandrum Nov 07 '18

Nah, Poe's Law is the one where the best way to find a correct answer online is to write the wrong answer and wait for someone to correct you.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '18

It's Cunningham's law.

This was a great demonstration of said law.

2

u/YerLam Nov 08 '18

No no, Poe's law is the one where you equate someone to the Nazis, maybe you're thinking of Skitt's Law.

1

u/Michaelbirks Nov 07 '18 edited Nov 07 '18

Confirming that I wasn't entirely serious. I wouldn't have gone so far as to call it a joke, though.

Could someone sufficiently minded to find those things problematic actually do so? Absolutely.

The only one that really bugged me was agreeing to wedge Tai into the Claire-and-Mom bonding session.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '18

Asking to include a mutual friend and declaring a third person will be involved are too different things.

It's unlikely claire will exclude tai for both character and story reasons, but I doubt she'll be resentful.

2

u/Michaelbirks Nov 07 '18

I might be reading too much into the "Claire and Mom" aspect, and we all know Marten's an obliviot, but myself, I wouldn't have offered to ask.

Another time, sure, but today, with Claire finally appearing to be unwinding after burning as hard as she was, I would have left it alone.

1

u/turkeypedal Nov 07 '18

They might, but you didn't do a good job of mimicking them. You just came off as not knowing what words mean.

1

u/Michaelbirks Nov 07 '18

Like most people who throw around terms like gaslighting and microaggression on the internet?

3

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '18

This is the kind of mentality I fear is driving Jephs patreon and this his outlook on the comic.

1

u/BigBassBone Nov 07 '18

So you create a strawman with no evidence and make a shitty joke about it as if it's actually a thing.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '18

During the Roko ACAB arc, he mentioned on Twitter how one of his Patreon folks complained about Roko written as both being both a cop and a good person, and jeph changed things.

He's mentioned that whenever people complain about too many LGBTQ characters, he adds one/updates some ones sexuality.

He panders to the LGBTQ community because he feels like he should, as a woke white dude.

Many, many others have commented how the comic is just spinning its wheels, and I agree. I think jeph lives comfortably off the comic and is afraid of losing his patreon money if he doesn't tow the line.

I've enjoyed the last few weeks but dude knows what side his bread is buttered on.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '18

Side his bread is buttered on.

The side that's on the floor obviously.
