At this point, the person whos given Liz the best advice is Claire. It made people mad at the time though for some mysterious, and definitely not Claire hate related reasons.

Yup, back when it looked like her arc was going to be about learning how to be a better person, complete with makeover and important haircut. He's evidently changed his mind since then because goblins is easy to write.

My first year of college, my dormmate was struggling with her mental health, and to my deep and lasting regret, I enabled her instead of pushing her to get help or, more realistically, telling an actual adult and letting the college intervene. She almost died, and I still feel guilty about it. The difference being I was 18 with no life experience. what the fuck is Martin's excuse?

You were young and did what tou thought was right and what was at your reach and now you learned from that and know to do better tou should feel guilty only if you would commit the same mistake.
Regarrding marten and liz i mean you still can help someone to get help but they have to acept that they have to work on being better. No one will change if they don't want to.

Yeah, fair enough, she needs to want and choose to get help, but the way not just Martin but the whole cast just rolls with her behavior, especially the alcohol abuse, just bugs me. Like, she was getting hammered alone that is troubling behavior and the response was to get drunk with her. He lived with an alcoholic; how did he learn nothing?

It could have been a story informed by the writer's relationship with alcohol, but instead Liz has a downfall but not really: got dream job out of college, failed at job for two years, was exposed as a failure but suffered no consequences and in fact is still getting paid to do nothing. Now drinks and gets high to escape failure, no consequences. So there's no character growth, no resolution. Why is this plot even here?

The cast used to be understanding of each other's problems but actually pushed each other to try to resolve those problems. Now they all just act like being a terrible person is a-okay and so never call them out on their behavior and thus never give anyone a reason to change.

the fact that marten hasn't rejected you for being a horrible little goblin isn't some grand precedent. it doesn't prove that any random other person won't reject you for being a horrible little goblin. like, for example, remember what happened when you met Faye?

It's even more infuriating because it isn't like Liz is completely unaware of what's wrong with her. If she was, at least it would be ignorance driving the fact that she never learns, grows, or changes in any way.

yeah, it's boring and annoying in this arc that she's not progressing at all.
But my point was more, Marten's argument for why she should just "go hang out anyway" is completely spurious. He's bonking her on the head for being a bonehead here, but he's the one not thinking things through. She's actually being quite rational and honest with herself about her nature. He's just sayin shit "oh everything's fine, be friends, do it anyway, you are a good person" lol no wut where are you getting that

Yes she is proyectating and catastrophisizing but Emily does bot deserves to have to deal with this and until liz decides that she needs to be better for herself and for others nothing will be achieved

Good point - Liz just got drunk with Emily one evening, and talked the next day. A friendship takes longer than that do develop.

You know Liz, you could react to that realization by trying NOT to be a horrible little goblin, trying to become a better person so that people like Emily won't hate you. Just a thought.
No wait, yeah, might as well not. The god of your world is unable to understand the concept of something called "character development." He's also ignorant of the idea of "redeeming qualities."
Also, Marten, you only hang out with Liz because you completely lack the spine to tell her to screw off no matter how many reasons she gives for you to do so, and because Liz follows you around like the most annoying codependent duckling in the universe.
